Draining

Image
5.5 hours of sleep.  Starting before 5 am. Ending at almost 11 after breakfast in the middle. There was a crossword puzzle but that was pretty early. There were blog posts. There was staring into space on the breezeway. There was dozing in a chair. There was feeding the cat. And before / after that... Chocolate ice cream with rum and salami with mozarella inside after a trip to Walgreens did not help. So instead tonight it's pre-wrapped cheddar cheese, slightly rancid almonds and good dried cranberries. Who says pandemic / pandemonium anxiety makes people do weird things? Bathtub, soap in red container, pot used for hand laundry including masks Walgreens was a trip. The POS device kept screwing up. The clerk accidentally charged me for some Hand Sanitizer and my whatever savings club code was not entering correctly so I was getting billed about $8 more than I owed. Mental arithmetic is so valuable sometimes. Now the sink drains appropriately. The bathtub on the other hand......

The Tub Shroom

Image
About 4 hours of sleep or a little less. The phone call at 6 am from RantMom's retirement community did nto help about the Go back to bed issues. RantMom fell in the bathroom at 3 am. She pulled the pull cord and staff did magnificent help including what sounds like a very smart easy to assemble chair to help lft RantMom up. But the RantSisters had to have some Sister words On the up side, blue birthday dress goes much better with orange and blue striped socks than pink dress does.  And the shipment of baking soda, vinegar, and drano will be a huge help with the sink and plumbing issues. Don't forget the "Tub Shroom" for the bathtub. PS.Here are a couple nice TubShroom vids A great Tub Shroom Video Another TUb Shroom vid And just type notes do not get in a hurry...

starting upper left and 1234 clockwise 1 Columbia Gorge at dusk 2. Columbia Gorge with a Rainbow 3. A walking trail with flowers and foliage 4. A red and white Japanese fan          4 + hours of sleep. Look I went to bed at 1. I woke up after 5. I decided to make lentil brownies from the lentils I started cooking last night. After that there was the matter of spilling some sunflower oil and and and I woke up and the sink had drained completely. YEAH maintenance man visit on Friday. So I started seeing what would happen if I ran boiling water down the drain. It helped. As in after several rounds I could pour steadily from the Teapot and it would almost all drain. I NEED to wash dishes but I am not quite ready to do that unless I get maniacal about water conservation. And there is a whole thread about new clothes from stimulus payment.

Nutritional Information

Sleep 5.5 hours. in two spells  I THINK the dose of late night comedy digesting the Repug convention was worth the sleep lapse. Amnd going to bed earlier still would have been good, but I did also finish the crossword puzzle.  I am definitely aware of I could have slept more. I also got my floor scrubbed. Itis much better but not perfect. The Garlic Peas Package Then just when I was going to shower, a guy showed up to deal with my plumbing issues. Both drains are better. Guy said the kitchen needs a real plumber and ... take care about grease. And the nutritional info: I love the ideaof a Friday farmers market  But at grocery outlet, I got there too early to go to the farmer's market before shopping and when I was done shopping it was hot and the line with social distancing was too long and I just caught the bus home At home I already have garlic peas from China and popcorn, and veggie sticks,... The nutritional info says basically why eat this stuff. It's green  and...

Thwack gone AWOL

The SLEEP: SIX hours. in 2 spells , 1-4 and before 7 to before 10. If one does not snack in the evening, one sometimes decides one is hungry even if one wakes up too early. Also time for sure to make some oatmeal, the weekly pot of porridge, even though the sink situation fills RantWoman with despair of cleaning a big pot. The rest of the data: no evening snacking because laundry. But got laundry done in record time partly because no one else was in the laundry room until someone came in to wash as most of my stuff except one last load was already drying.  Sending an email, a voicemail and a paper form through the designated slot has now generated at least acknowledgment of the drainage problems. Now, about actual repairs. Somewhere in the laundry maelstrom, Thwack the cane has gone missing. RantWoman actually has 5 scratch that SIX canes. They collectively are known as Ambassador Thwack though sometimes they get fussy and one or another might ask to be referred to as Deputy Chief ...

Accessibility problems in the webinar about accessibility

about 4 hours counting a nap and going to bed at a ridiculous hour. Weird how sometimes I can get started and be fine for a long time and then look at clock.     But life is not automaticaly better when I go to bed   earlier. And today ideas flowed. Laundry and kitchen floor await. And filed both paper and phone grumbles about kitchen sink. Pandemic sucks. As for the accessibility whines. They belong in another blog and right now I NEED chocolate.

Sperm whales and "we've got your back"

4.5 hours of sleep. Too much to hope that a string of longer nights will hold steady but there is the matter of chocolate late-ish in the evening. Yesterday was a decent exercise day because of kitchen drainage hassles and taking out compost. Laundry and scrubbing floor still need to happen and I need a strategy for decluttering, hopefully with some bulk initial steps to create momentum.  The Tuesday NYT puzzle is usually easy and I finished that early. Note to self: this reconditioned phone is doing the same thing as other phone started to do in fail mode. Time to call and get another phone but this one lasted only 6 months. I halfway wonder whether something about NYT puzzle interaction with vibrate on touch feature is killing phone faster than it should. But I also still mean to download the Scrabble game a blind dev I know wrote, both to play scrabble and to see if I can steal navigation ideas for the puzzle. It would be really awesome though to find a young blind dev who might...

Nutritional responsibility and clogged drains

Image
Almost SEVEN hours of sleep. Woo-hoo. That is because 4 hours breakfast and go back to bed for 3 more hours. Chocolate and sweet potato sticks late did not help, especially the chocolate. Rewarded myself for dealing with clogging kitchen sink and cat box and taking out compost by... eating more sweet potato sticks. The Veggie sticks are better but they were out at Walgreens' Kitchen floor and laundry still await my attention. Sobering how much time daily stuff takes up. I am trying to decide whehter to consign some of this to Einstein and his socks meditations. Socks were kind of an absent-minded professor thing for einstein. I do not think women get the absent-minded professor meme but maybe scatter brained creative or something. Speaking of which though I have to decide whether to apply for a professor role. It would be a stretch but...  I hope my email whining about sink results in a real trained human showing up in spite of pandemic closures. I probably CAN take apart the U joi...

Sweaty Armpits? Alan Jackson - Leaning On The Everlasting Arms (Live)

Image
Somewhere close to SIX HOURS of sleep. I can tell it made a difference. I spent all morning turning vegetable ingredients into food.  Plan A was to remind self of usual pre plague Sunday travel practices.  Plan B was stay put. We will not discuss sartorial standards except for it is good to have the option to turn video off.  Plan C is to meditate upon the electronic equivalent of prayer on public right of way. Luckily singing and references to singing and auditions for earworm of th week intervened. As for that part about God and sweaty armpits...think #ArcticHeatWave and global #ClimateCrisis

Nerd Cred and Hang on Ruthie! from Buffalo Romeo

Image
Almost 5 hours of sleep and going back to beedwould have been awesome. Instead I sat on the bench on the breezeway and drank in the calm and finished the Saturday crossword puzzle. I also ate cheese, popcorn and applesauce too late in the day. Probably enough exercise though because of run to mailbox and reasonable sized (smallish) onions, potatoes, dates and other things at Hay Tai wonderful international market. Pan dulce too because those baked goods are not as cloying as at other bakeries. Still need to scrub floor, take out trash, change cat box.... As for nerd cred plus clutching magical talismans such as tune below: which is bigger nerd cred: --sitting with one's family and counting peds, cars, bikes passing through a nearby intersection --talking a bunch of technical minutiae in a serious Subject Matter expert way and in the same sentence with a phrase something like "technological advisor to major blindness organizations." Teamwork, foks, Teamwork, and career pro...

Friday Friday Coronavirus Rhapsody (based on Bohemian Rhapsody) - Covid19

Image
Sleep FIVE HOURS in one spell.  Going back to bed was not going to happen because of need to shower before a Zoom call.  If I spill enough water on the kitchen floor I will knock down the volume of the topographical floor grime. Hopefully TOMORROW I or maybe this evening I will get floor mopped and then the mop will have all weekend to dry before the balcony purity police come swooping down on Monday. And here is some more #pandemic art

Children Go where I send thee

Image
FIVE whole hours of sleep. In one spell. Going back to bed would have been lovely but did not happen. Who says you shouldn't wear stripes and polka dots together? Compression socks digression partly because this blog just needs some visuals and partly joy and self-congratulation mostly. Except for the funky fashion statements, these pictures are more boring than RantWoman would wish. RantWoman would wish for selfies while outdoors doing something original or active or ordinary like just grocery shopping. But today's photos are what RantWoman has energy to do. The snarky and self-congratulatory part, sort of: RantWoman thinks having her act together to deal with support socks and REALLY cool ones is a sign of sanity compared say to um a certain family member and in terms of cost/ benefit over things compression socks prevent. Plus today RantWoman is even savvy enough to remember the fold the sock over itself to the outside at about the heel. Presto, less than half as much space...

Growly: Bach - Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor BWV 1011 - Suzuki | Netherlands Bach...

Image
Sleep: almost 5 hours. Counting going back to bed after breakfast. Go to bed earlier the first time and see if that increases sleep length. Not enough exercise. Whereas day before yesterday was a lot of exercise and a lot of comedy at night. Somehow last night RantWoman really really needed music. RantWoman was glad to find the whole Bach Suite # 5 but in retrospect it might be better just to listen one movement at a time. Blame the second crossword puzzle? Blame Bach Cello suite #5 in C minor. RantWoman really likes the suite. The vid below is wonderful and growly but RantWoman is probably going to go find the Yo-yo Ma one movement at a time series. Yo-yo Ma was playing on an instrument with a brighter tone. Even though RantWoman really appreciates growly sometimes, RantWoman thinks the suite will be gorgeous on a different instrument too. Today featured  --clean dishes and a realization that I should probably attempt a work order about multiple slow drains. --neighbor of grandchi...

Hot Air and Bass Singers Quartet (Just a Little Talk With Jesus) 05-01-10

Image
The sleep data. Between 1 am and 9 am, at least SIX hours of sleep.  Woot?  Fan helped. No wiggy dreams like the other night. Need a different audio book but since I easily fell asleep within 5 minutes maybe not. Decent exercise day yesterday though the specific exercise made RantWoman clearer about a number of points than ever. Fun Fun Fun. TWO easy Tuesday crosswords  Body was not liking some combination of food, fizzy water, latter earlier in the day... so in the end it just made sense to go to bed. Then body decided 4:30 was a good time to wake up. Okay at least into the acceptable to RantWoman cat breakfast window. And RantWoman needs to wash dishes before making more porridge so RantWoman decided on PB&J and a banana for breakfast. Then BACK TO BED for 2.5 more hours and awake in time at least to get dressed if skip a shower before Zoom meeting. Bra yes. Shower no. details like the business day lives of people's pets that is all part of the new Zoom normal. Tea ...

Graffitti

Image
The sleep data: 5 hours counting going back to bed for 1/2 hour after breakfast. Went to bed earlier than average. Got up. Went ahead and ate breakfast and even drank tee. Went back to bed and did not sleep much. Decided to get up and either chores or Twitter. Okay it was Twitter that took over until it was time to go to CT scan. CT scan comment: why specifically green for a sense of color while contrast is being injected? Other than that QFC and broadway on the way home. Why y'all gotta smash windows. And really, quoting the Letter from the Birmingham jail? Really. At least articulate rationale don't just quote. There. Protest reviews just like those celebrity chef shows. Last night various flavors of comedy for bedtime listening.  And today graffitte on a bus stop that formerly had a lovely historical mural. Pffffths. Previous Meditations on Graffitti at same bus stop Graffitti: KARMA replacing just LOVELY historical mural

Grapefruit flavored LaCroix and today's earworm Yo-Yo Ma - Bach: Cello Suite No. 5 in C Minor, Allemande

Image
First the sleep data: 5 hours in bed plus too much drowsing.  Blame going shopping for fizzy water while too hungry to think entirely sensibly. More meditations after the earworm.  RantWoman is not familiar with Suite # 5. This is only one movement and RantWoman will have to go find the whole suite, but RantWoman definitely needs calm and multidimensionality more than she needs bad pandemic art today. Now the grocery shopping reflections behind the grapefruit LaCroix and the food meditations. RantWoman THINKS she is still getting rid of air pumped into abdomen over a week ago. RantWoman is bleeping getting tired of this. RantWoman is not sure why she thought actually adding fizzy water might help but RantWoman decided to try it. Then RantWoman decided to head south to the Safeway close to RantMom's old place. RantWoman has had good experience buying LaCroix there and would even have thought about San Pellegrino until she looked at the price and decided two 12-packs of LaCroi...

COVID Art Coronavirus Rhapsody (based on Bohemian Rhapsody) - Covid19

Image
Somewhere around  4 hours of sleep. Some in chair. Some in bed. Going back to bed would have been good. Would have been. Confessions of a hopeless sleep fumbler: last night there was a decent spell of walking the breezeway. But that was after the powdered milk mocha with RUM IN IT. And then RantWoman was hungry enough to eat some Pirate's booty and some peanut butter pretzels. And drink some more fluids to ensure need to pee at some predictable interval. And then RantWoman went out to the interwebs to harvest some dubious #Covid-related art.

8 freaking days and STILL burping AND farting

Image
Five hours of sleep counting falling asleep in the chair; about 4.5 in bed and not back to bed because Twitter. . TWO crossword puzzles and only phone after supper. I have half an urge to make some tactile graphics which I have not done in MONTHS because who is going to come around to touch the art. But today I decided I needed a pickmeup. These glorious balloons completely satisfy RantWoman's interest in small things adding up in different ways to similar big things. But they would not make a good tactile image. There is too much detail and the braille embosser would do a terrible job of recognizing the detail. Or making usable tactile images would require way too much visual fussing. Either way, today's blindness tourism. You're welcome. No this balloon shot will not make good tactile graphics but   As for the continued expulsions of gas, I think I need to get up and go move because that seems to help move things along. But when I told a friend about the 8 days a week of f...

Should there be a grunge versionBe thou my vision - (with lyrics)

Image
4.5 hours of sleep.  I finally gave up and let the crossword puzzle tell me the last about 8 letters. Then I felt silly for not getting the clues. But at least i did not stay up ALL night. So what if I did not manage to make myself wait until morning to see if sleep helped solve... Going back to bed would have been good but I had a useful convesation instead. Several back and forths to my apt and a few cycles on the breezeway but really not enough exercise. And peanut butter pretzels and potato sticks late at night. Who says one's pandemic diet has to be sensible? Bible study is still reading Mark. This time Jesus heals a guy with epilepsy, at least temporarily. Mark never says how long such healings last. But at least i did not have to go off about "DO NOT TRY THIS unless you are Jesus" as I did last week about spit and healing the blind man. Somebody in the Bible study group seems to have ebb and flow of COVID symptoms. Hold in the light. So this morning I attempted to ...

Is the patient oriented as to space and time?

5 solid hours of sleep. More would have been good but Twitter beckoned instead. Plus I needed a food prep rampage to make a couple days worth of lunch meals besides today. This time: Rice balck beans onion squash spinich salsa rooster sauce. Nice to be eating fiber again. Go to bed too late but no snacks all evening. Also avoided some kinds of situations that make one want to eat. But plenty of potato veggie sticks earlier in the day and lentil brownies also helped. Also back and forth between apartment and computer lab is about two blocks each time and I even worked in some time on the breezeway besides. And crossword puzzles seem to help contain anxiety, good because although Bach also tends to do that too, somehow Bach through my phone just does not sound adequate. Add reasonable home sound system to the household wish list for now. 6 days out from the inflate the abdomen CT scan I am STILL both farting and burping. At least it's odorless farts but it is annoying and uncomforta...

Fiber!

Almost 4 hours of sleep. No going back to bed after breakfast. Instead feed the Twitter habit and pay therapist for last visit just in time to have today's visit. And read lab results after calling the Helpdesk. Helpdesk voice assured me that something I observed not working was in fact working. So I tried again and this time it was working. Gist of message: nothing to worry about right now but need for continued monitoring. RantWoman may put on former bean counter hat and suggest what about this simple lab test instead of this gnarly procedure? But in meantime, still the other CT scan to schedule. Too much fun. For sleep abbreviation last night credit a second crossword puzzle from the archives. Also credit the popcorn, veggie sticks and figs I ate late in the evening. In other words, RantWoman made a grownup decision. RantWoman also ate the ice cream for lunch so dousing it with rum before bed was not an option. RantWoman could have bought more ice cream when she bought the popc...

Odorless farts

SIX almost 7 yhours of sleep. The secrets: --Walk around Safeway for a good while. Come home with chocolate ice cream along with cheese, cat food, laundry detergent because my brand was there and on sale. Could have come home with other things but at a certain point, one does not want even to try to carry. --Mix some rum with the chocolate ice cream. RantWoman thinks that would be a waste of better rum, but it was fine. Also eat some unsalted corn chips. --somewhere in here do the NYT crossword puzzle. It's Monday so easy peasy. --Be in bed slightly after 1 am. As in do not go back to computer lab. Also forget to charge the talking book reader so there is no sound to distract. --Sleep until almost 7 and then go back to bed after breakfast. --Four / Five freaking days after the Colonoscopy CT pump one full of air ct scan, I still have nice odorless farts and i burp a lot. I wish I saw the humor in this. --

Shampoo a day later than average.

About 4 hours of actual sleep in bed. Clearly not enough especially when it is easy to fall asleep in chairs but harder to fall asleep in bed. Memo to self. Get more exercise. Other than that, Twitter now thinks I want not only completely nonviolent protests in Khabarovsk but the crack protestors' heads protests by people trying to make changes through elections in Minsk. Not to mention the various flavors of protest in Seattle: some of the time I care about issues. Some of the time I really only GAF about how do the protests affect my ability to go where I want to go on the bus.  As for household chores, I WILL Get trash out and maybe even wrangle refrigerator life forms but today I washed my hair. I was going to do it last night because it did not fit into the schedule before that yesterday but the night wound up indulging in one video after another, worthwhile even though I fell asleep part way through every single one. Sleep hygiene? What's that. Sleep as self- care self-ca...

DDT

Image
Somewhere past 4 hours in bed, not counting several spells of dozing and fits of writing before making it to bed.  We will not discuss the hour of making it to bed. Nor will we discuss late night eating no matter how healthy the almonds and dried cranberries and shredded cheese and ... But we will admit to writing TWO blog posts and we will try to get the sleep diary done before the day expires. DDT post and Khabarovsk demos The Colonoscopy Update Text of T-Shirt: The language they were forbidden to speak    i s the language that saved the nation. and we will tease readers with a picture of RantWoman's code talkers T-shirt and a promise of a Quaker blog item set to post before morning.

Pandemic EBT?

Somewhere legit in the vicinity of over 5 hours in bed and several spells of dozing when I should have been in bed except in the morning when going back to bed did not work. But as a distraction, in case anyone in this network, as opposed to other networks needs infor about the Pandemic EBT program (Apply before August 31 for anyone who might qualify families with kids on free and reduced price lunches.) Pandemic EBT info sheet

Does sleep under sedation count?

Somewhere around 4 hours of sleep off and on at night but starting earlier than average. Then somewhere under an hour under sedation. How does one track hours if one wakes up 3 times while body continues ridding itself of colonoscopy prep? RantWoman scored the colonoscopy bonus package "We can't see all of your loopy long colon with our scope so how about you let us pump 4 liters of air in. massage your abdomen so the air opens what we need to see and we give you a CT scan., roll you around several ways, ask you to lie on the abdominal ballon we have just created and if you are lucky get you to remind yourself, RantWoman thinks RantMom's cancer was in the area the test is trying to see so even though results in the rest of the colon are better than last time smaller # and smaller size polyps, better put up with it. RantWoman is VERY thankful for the ride home because after all of that RantWoman was grouchy, dehydrated, and barely able to be civil even to VERY kind driver...

Could it be ANXIETY????

Sleep total 4.5 hours. I tried going back to sleep and did the just lie in bed and be horizontal thing for awhile but sleep did not come back. It's clear liquids day so no milk or oatmeal to soothe some nerves. Coffee is allowed but who needs more caffeine on top of tea. Here is a nice Napping as Resistance article. The Gospel of Napping Napping as Resistance Morning news: oh good COVID test is negative and I get to have a colonoscopy tomorrow.  Too much fun.

Pandemic art in mustard and siracha

Image
ALmost SIX hours of sleep in two spells including going back to bed after breakfast. Would it have worked to just go back to bed aftger feeding the cat. Try that sometime. Day is part of the no-fiber colonoscopy prep. Definitely enjoyed Lucky charms for breakfast even though I have NO intention of buying another box anytime soon. I decided I need more pandemic art so the string Pandemic Art Challenge found me this great image and site from the state of MT. Link to the site with more entries Pandemic Art Challenge MT

Another earworm Audition: Sergei Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf. Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Image
Sleep: somewhere over SIX hours not counting a couple rounds of dozing before RantWoman finally made it to bed. One of these days I will finish the cellphones and resistance book. Another round of earworm auditions. See a message awhile ago about two wolves, love and fear which for now RantWoman is muddling as fierce. RantWoman is feeling grateful for the light to note "something freaky happened" and to reach out.... True evidence of a live performance, a fussy baby. The baby was fussy even before the scary part.  Audio description text: a bunch of mostly pale-haired white people performing in a symphony concert. Camera pans over different instruments as their parts are played. The closeups are really fun for people with working eyes who from the hall would not see all that the camera can see.

Full Moon AND Caffeine and lingering longer on the smart blind people zoom chatter than.. and a crossword puzzle and ...

RantWoman is a grownup. RantWoman WILL post the sleep total slightly more than an hour. We will not discuss trying to sleep when it is already daylight. Nor will we discuss the possibility of going back to bed for an hour before morning Zooms       We will discuss RantWoman having the good sense finally to GO TO BED before trying to write everything on her mind. We will also note that RantWoman very occasionally does this no sleep thing for different writing projects. Sometimes it works brilliantly. Sometimes RantWoman turns into a zombie way too fast the next day. RantWoman did well about no zombie until suppertime carbs hit.  We will also discuss how good the sleep finally felt. To make matters worse for tonight's sleep Neighbor with the grandson offered RantWoman eid leftovers tonight. RantWoman not only ate some but is also munching almonds and putting off figuring out password and appointment things until a weekday and daylight. darkness coming earlier no...

Zoom call teamwork desparately needed

5+ hours of sleep. No computer after supper. No caffeine late in day. Finished the Saturday crossword puzzle before thinking about more computer. Made the weekly pot of porridge late at night. That counts as exercise. Then I read the colonoscopy prep instructions: let's see several days before the event discontinue all the fiber things that are supposed to help prevent the things the colonoscopy is supposed to be looking for. So much fun. And this morning's Zoom call is WCB board and why yes some of the same organizational probs as other parts of my life
