More sleep not achieved but here is Lady Gaga with a bunch of Oboes and an English horn or two

Image
4.9 hours of sleep. Boo! I was hoping for longer. Going to bed earlier did not really help and I still barely made it to my 11 am Zoom properly dressed I think there was a crossword puzzle involved. Morning Twitter  AND  Sweet news: one of my Princeton interviewees got admitted! Much else unsettled and at times overwhelming, but I'll take it.

Jazz Bassoon a new thing Tarde em Berlim - Alexandre Silvério Quintet

Image
5 hours of sleep on the dot.  It DEFINITELY matters to be at home not at the computer lab as far as sleep. The EX President got indicted today. It was way past time AND it's still definitely a mixed blessing for the country. DO BETTER NEXT TIME.

Three nights in a row and Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 – III. Allegro molto vivace

Image
6.6 hours of sleep! 3 6 hour nights in a row partly because I just did Kyiv worship at home. Speaking of gremlins, today I not only can't find my NEW pair of toenail scissors, I also cannot find my powdered milk. So no powdered milk mochas and plan b for the toenails. Also I  am feigning competence with one collaborator who is picking through even worse psychic detritus than mine. Also TWO, count the TWO friends today needing to tell me about their strabismus / depth perception / fusion issues. One earned an MRI for persistence in finding multiple opinions. The other not sure because I a little bit stopped tracking in the name of forward momentum. Merry Wednesday!

More sleep more fun tech troubleshooting and G. Rossini Duetto for bassoon and contrabassoon ( first time :-) )

Image
Wow! 2 days in a row of 6+ hours of sleep. Amazing how much better tech troubleshooting goes if one gets decent rest. Other than that, I SWEAR I have gremlins. Now I can't find my new toenail scissors.  And if that is the worst problem of my day....

Steel drums mean yearning for tropical climate Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Steel Rhythm Steel Drums

6.4 hours of sleep! Laundry awaits tonight because it didn't happen last night.

"Men with banjos who know how to use them" on Letterman re Steve Martin & Earl Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Breakdown

Image
5 ish hours of sleep. Washed hair and connections with the Saturday Night with Smart people zoom about the week's events--BANKING edition. No laundry. Sigh. No building council minutes typed. Sigh. Breathing deeply from Quaker thing on Zoom And Awake in time both for breakfast and for closing worship, one of the more loving closing worships I have been to for anything in awhile. Bolivian quakers will have no potato crops for this year or next because of drought. To hell with climate catastrophe. No this video does not make me want a whole lot more banjo only music. Yes, The letterman comment about "men with banjos who know how to use them" makes me smile and calm down in the face of a whole lot of gun related lunacy.

A whole piece FOR timpani "Raise the Roof"for Timpani and Symphonic Band

Image
5 ish hours of sleep. I hate trying to do Zoom events on east coast schedule00even though event is VERY rich. And I hate being tired enough to want timpani and not energetic enough to do anything else.

Bangy ...but subtle: Bruckner 3 – I. Massig bewegt

Image
4.5 hours of sleep. I am a grownup and could have set grocery delivery for the next later delivery windo. Energized so hard to fall asleep. But here's the next stop on our tour of musical periods and styles as reflected with timpani.

Mild Mahler Bangy stuff because enough already about breathing without thinking about woodwinds too. Timpani Moments – Mahler 1: IV: Stürmisch bewegt

Image
5.5 hours of sleep. The Boy is mobile, that is not only walking but pedaling his training wheel bike up and down the hall with great enthusiasm! File it under another thing to trip over but also joy. And then there is breathing: --My apartment  DOES need help. --Neighbor likes a LOT of incense. --Lobby reeks of something cloyingly sweet that I think is intended to be pleasant. --And dust level is higher and HVAC effects lower than average in the computer lab. But I think I am still going to do quaker stuff with headphones because ... even though I could use laptop with no headphones and other headaches.  PS I don't consider the exercise bike unworshipful. Stay tuned. PPS. I am tired of COVID. COVID is not over. I am tired of people I know and love getting sic, especially more than once.

Begin with some bangy stuff: Also sprach Zarathustra – Opening – Timpani moment

Image
7.2 hours of sleep! Holy cow and oh wow. Wait. Correction? 6.1 hours. Either way.... Something about deciding I was awake enough at home to do Kyiv one more week before they do time change. Also the cat was NOT inclined to wander. Still no expresidential arrests or indictments. The threat of disorder feels a little bit like when he threatened North Korea with nuclear war on Twitter. But here we are and it's definitely SPRING

A bit of baroque to unkink nerves: Telemann F minor sonata for bassoon, TWV 41f1

Image
A little over 4 hours of sleep. more laundry adventures and then the CAT. I thought the cat was in my apartment when i went to bed. She was NOT. and she needed to tell the whole hallway about it 2 hours after i went to bed. I am mortified. She appears to have forgiven me. I do not care whether people think baroque music is unimaginative. Right now it is really helping.

Never mind the whole opera. Just here to preview the bangy parts coming to the Benaroya Carmina Burana: O Fortuna – Timpani Moments

Image
5.1 hours of sleep. Today WAY too many video conferences, not enough exercise and too many overhanging to-do's. And day n+1 of still no Trump indictments. Interesting to guess what waters are being tested via social media streams. Youtube is here to save me, regardless of whether or not I am tired of bassoon stuff (i'm not) today it's timpani, lots of timpani

More Bassoon: MOZART BASSOON QUARTET IN G

Image
Oh heavens. 6.2 hours of sleep. Let's hear it for sun and exercise and getting the body clock reset. Now about getting the psyche reset so I don't keep overloading myself. Meanwhile, some more bassoon music

Taking a mental health break from indictment watch in favor of wholesome spiritually nurturing topics such as unexplained fires / explosions at military targets in Russia

Image
All the way to 5.1 hours of sleep. Breakfast Twitter is full of this and that about possible indictments and Orange Jesus inciting....and  Outing to Blindness group in gorgeous sunshine. New chapter president has great ties and we heard a fun technology demo. Then a whole zoom call on a bus bench. Look guy, I am sorry the bus shelter is your best housing option. And I appreciate you picking up all the nice clean cardboard and moving the shopping cart. And I do not apologize for borrowing the space.  Now must understand calendar and Zoom obligations for Sunday

St. Patrick's Day with Mozart: Bassoon Concer to (complete) in B-flat major K 191, Aligi Voltan ...

Image
Too snarky to send to some of my audience 4.5 hours of sleep plus whatever the cat helped purr me to sleep in the chair before I went to bed,. TRYING to get body clock recalibrated after time change. It's just not functional to sleep until 10 am a lot. The extra daylight makes me giddy--and reminds me of many chores I need to tend to, but that also means energy and focus to do it.  Today's two major accomplishments: --I sauteed up the cabbage in my fridge with various other ingredients so that it's kind of apt for the holiday. --I stuck old business cards in the crown pockets on 3 new hats I got on the Tilley sale. --I forgot I also got new toenail scissors. This time I stashed them where the cat won't be able to knock them off of anything. Speaking of obsessive though, I went out and forgot my phone at home and then panicked when I realized and feared I had left it at a bus stop. The errand got aborted and the phone was safely on my desk at home. What a relief. And as

A wholesome interlude in the Youtube streams Edward Elgar - Enigma Variations, Op.36: IX. (Nimrod)

Image
6.2 hours of sleep. Thank you I guess to the furry alarm clock who was certain it was breakfast time because at least I got a shower and decent breakfast before a noon Zoom.. TRY to get to bed earlier. Also getting out and modest exercise helps. Daily urge to rage tweet about something is exhilarating and.... But body is telling me to DEAL WITH a couple things I would rather ignore. And in the meantime one variation and maybe I will go find the others.

Daylight Savings time? Where and when? IN the meantime INVITATION - JAZZ BASSOON / Alexandre Silvério Quartet

Image
About5.5 hours of sleep  AND awake in time for Broadband Breakfast and another meeting I half forgot about. PLUS Kyiv doesn't hit Daylight Savings time until two weeks after the US so midweek Kyiv worship started at 1:30 am instead of 12:30 am. Having too many to-do's is a good problem. Now if I could figure out getting paid for some of them.

Needing a break from Jazz Bassoon: Darius Rucker - Wagon Wheel

Image
5.1 hours of sleep according to my CPAP.  I had time to go back to bed but didn't For one thing I was hungry and after breakfast, going back to bed did not appeal. I have some minutes to type. Probably that will happen after people go home from the computer lab.I wish I felt more enthusiastic as opposed to trying to be faithful for next steps. But one of the figures in next steps burned her nand over a tea kettle. Not only do I fret on her behalf, I also fret on my own behalf. I have other things on my mind, but they make me tired to think too much about. I also need bananas but Amazon changed their food delivery prices and I donwanna pay! And I have a great new passport wallet with zippered compartments for things I need RFID protection about as well as things I don't WANT RFID protection for. And if it isn't one form of newsfeed anxiety, it's another. Today the death of Pat Schroeder AND a Russian fighter plane intercepting a US drone over the Black Sea. Sometimes one

I need a nap so this musical selection is apt Astor Piazzolla - Oblivion for Bassoon, Saxophone and Chamber orchestra

Image
5.2 hours of sleep. The time change is a drag. I need a nap and more exercise but instead MORE ZOOM

Bless you weekend Amazon deliveries in the fullest Bless your hearts sense plus Viva La Vida - Bassoon Quartet

Image
A whopping 6.2 hours of sleep in spite of time change.  I think I solved my I need a new wallet problem. And my Amazon app says the new toenail clippers are due FRIDAY. If that is the worst problem I have ....

Zooming with pronoun people and Super Mario Bros Suite arrangement for bassoon, clarinet, and oboe

Image
Respectable 5+ hours of sleep. I still have not found my toenail clippers. I fully expect that to happen right after the new ones get delivered. Two Zooms with the alphabet soup and pronoun people. So no laundry or outing but that also meant Mom finished some writing she has been working on.

Bassoons against anxiety Libertango by Ástor Piazzolla for four bassoons and contrabassoon

Image
4.5 hours of sleep, not counting the cat's help in the chair after supper. Definitely feeling the not enough exercise. Also trying to get a handle on work during daylight and still settling in better WAY too late at night / early in the morning. At least today I scrubbed the top of my stove. A small increment of virtue and it's spring so more of it please. Sometimes the bassoons help about anxiety. Sometimes they don't And about those toenail scissors....

Sort of a transit related pun: LATE TRANE = Oboman - Hanson

Image
About 4.5 hours of sleep. I don't know which I would prefer, get as much sleep as I aspire to or wake up in time for morning webinar, but the latter is what happened. I have to regularly make sure I eat a decent HOT meal around regular suppertime and not later. I still don't know where the cat sent the toenail clippers. I fully expect to find them the minute I go buy another pair.. And some music instead of the supermarket tabloid strands of Youtube.

Antidote to too much modernity and AI A. Marcello - Oboe Concerto in d minor (Marcel Ponseele, baroque oboe

Image
5.5 hours of sleep. And awake in time for at least part of the Broadband in Indian Country segment. Blame online retail and insight that probably a crossbody passport wallet would do what I need but I want a different one from the one I went on trips with decades ago. Alternation of Microsoft #AbilitySummit and interruption after interruption. Where DID the cat put the toenail clipper scissors? She refuses to say.

Tea and Good chocolate still not a good idea late in the day but here is more cool jazz bassoon. Ballad for Klaus (Thunemann) - Alexandre Silvério Quarteto

Image
Barely 4 hours of sleep. Black tea and good chocolate late in the day are not as good an idea as they seemed at the time. I keep needing to learn this. Other than that 6 hours a day of Zoom for 4 days in a row is TOO MUCH. No linguistic badassery today except to make sure speakers said out loud some info that the interpreter can helpfully interpret. But I figured out how to handle a "my friend needs a therapist" topic.  And here is more jazz bassoon.

Brazilian Jazz Bassoon- "Entre Mundos "

Image
5.4 hours of sleep even though kitty had vomited all over my bed and I had to clean that up before I could actually go to bed. Cat was key to pandemic survival. And there are things I fret about now. LOTS of Zoom yesterday. Even 10 minutes on silly under desk pedal thing seems to be energizing. And memorials on Zoom make for opportunities to miss... Good news and bad news at the same time. Today's Zoom interpreter did much better than the one on Saturday. I think this video is sort of rehearsal-y and the title is apt on multiple grounds Happy Monday.

The Lord's prayer in Swahili with complex arrangement

Image
Miraculously about 6 hours of sleep,. Actually 6.2 hours according to what I can read on the device. Today I am appreciating socks that are just right in the leg and too long in the foot, as well as mail order sandals that are oddly comfortable even though they too are too long. But it's March and I don't have to go anywhere except across my breezeway. And by the way I appreciate having to walk the distances I have to walk. Other than that, all sorts of unholy terrors swirling around. Compline is a nice sedative even when I get there late because my mom was sleeping when I called so we talked later than usual. And I don't care whether that sentence made sense because i need to sayve my writing focus for... More linguistic badassery. Now how to GENTLY say....      In the meantime the lord's prayer and may God have mercy on us all.

Nostalgia with bassoon, linguistic badass and not enough sleep.

Image
4+ hours of sleep. On Zoom no one cares whether one needs a shower. Good thing. Also, overnight oats ROCK. I would not have made it to all my Zoom obligations without overnight oats. And it might or might not prove my nerd cred if I miss really valuable content in English while I listen to an interpreter struggle over things I would not have been able to interpret. Such is the life of a linguistic badass and I get to say AGAIN that we, the committee I let myself get added to by sounding halfway literate in Spanish, need to just start making a glossary. But for the sake of nostalgia about the Saturday mornings or my youth, a sort of jazz lesson on bassoon.

🔥DONNA LEE WITH 5 BASSOONS including Contrabassoon!

Image
4.4 hours of sleep. Blame the supermarket tabloid channels of Youtube.  Important nugget of info. Mitt Romney's great grandfather was a polygamous mormon who had 4 wives and 30 children and lived in Mexico where George Romney was born, why he couldn't run for President. This nugget courtesy in a windy internet way of TikTok. But this music is really fun even the contra bassoon!

Socks and Smetana: Vltava (The Moldau)

Image
6 hours of sleep. Every dang visit to the laundry room comes with exasperations. I HOPE that by chronicling the experiences with the right combination of people I can make things better for others who have different circumstances. Anyway, I have clean bras, sleepwear and socks, all of which counts as very blessed. I have too many people I care about and want to get things done with who are also high maintenance. Blessings to one for reminding all the time not on purpose about looking out for myself. I do not know why the cat wants to sleep under the blanket on the edge of the bed where I most want to sit to put my socks on. Smetana always makes me glad in a occasionally dark eastern European way.

Sleep makes one want MORE sleep. Add a - Marvelous Youth Symphony

6 hours of sleep! Okay I missed the morning zoom and I care more about video preparation for the FWCC section of the maericas than I do about the video of what I missed or the kazillion themes in my inbox or the next items on the chore list There is the trigger warning I sense in an ongoing thread but here is music
