Better than lots of flash mobs and even the Mormons

Image
About 5.5 hours of sleep but that is also because I was indulging YouTube's practice of shwing multiple versions of a song. Stay tuned for the covers of Wagon Wheel. And then there is sitting down at the computer. The Blue Screen of Death is so passe, but one of my accessibility products from time to time has to have an attack of red rectangles with a flurry of yellow arrows. Luckily reboot therapy most of the time cures it. Trying to stay on my to-do list even though distracted by urge to comment about LOTS of world events. PS. This is a Lithuanian group. I was fooled by something into thinking it might be Turkish. LIthuanian makes more sense in context of whole European song contest tradition and slightly accented English different from Turkish accents..

Not the most profound piece in the world but a really good clear the mind breath of mental fresh air

Amazingly 6 hours of sleep. And still it was hard to be ready for an 11:00 zoom But never mind because the Zoom started late anyway. The below is presented as a way to NOT peer at war in Ukraine and multifaceted upheaval involving Russia, the latest in Trump World dumpster fire, and live footage of hurricane. Too many ways to have fun

Asleep at the keyboard? Welcome to the planet of accessibility issues--again

5.5 hours of sleep.   Left in this entry for visual effect and because I started editing it yesterday on this blog instead of where I meant to. Welcome to my planet. Ooh. Ooh Ooh! The computer lab is reopening one day a week.

4.5 hours of sleep. Up in time for a zoom but that series needs more care and feeding in advance. Than had to jump to another Zoom And I am still zooming in the computer lab.

First world problems: updating the pizza website with monthly specials dorks accessibility.

six hours of sleep is glorious. I hate smoke and will be pedalling the under the desk bicycle things longer and ordering pizza instead of either going out in the smoke or using what I have at home. Sigh And I will try to be as gentle as possible in writing a complaint about all the extra trouble I have to go to in order to do something I LIKE.  I will also count many blessings and try not to drool too hard about the next wave of ever metastasizing scandals.

Another flash mob--or some war footage? I say go for the flash mob

Image
Four hours of sleep.  Got to bed in plenty of time to get more sleep before a 9 am Zoom. But there is the matter of late-night hair-washing and waking up cold. At least I got dressed before the Zoom.

Oboe! Henrik Chaim Goldschmidt plays "Gabriel's Oboe"

Image
6 glorious hours of sleep. Not up in time to shower before quarterly meeting zoom. Oh well. Worship sharing was worth it.

A nap is in order.

Image
4 hours of sleep. There was the crossword puzzle. There were various videos. This morning groceries came at the very beginning of the delivery window and then I skipped o1 of 2 zooms.      And now after lunch every time I try to do something responsible, the nap is calling me. Happy Friday.  Flowers at the edge  of the sidewalk at Mom's place

Somebody had a terrible horrible no good very bad day on multiple legal fronts yesterday

about 5.5 hours of sleep. Part of the reason: sucked into YouTube videos about TFG and his terrible horrible no good very bad day on multiple legal fronts. This is a much better day for a lot of the rest of the country who already think the justice system should get things right a higher percentage of the time than it does But with 2 septuagenarian world figures with nuclear issues attached to their names losing it spectacularly all over both domestic and world media, my therapist's question about "how is you anxiety?" just makes me laugh. And this is before I even tackle the multiple literature brain DEI excursions associated evoked by a Blind Leaders coffee hour I also made the grownup decision to watch a whole hour of Justice Kagan at Harvard Law talking about the Supreme Court. Happy double-booked Thursday afternoon

"Britain is still mourning the death of a 96 year old woman of natural causes" John Oliver

Image
Barely 4 hours of sleep I am a grownup about why. I am also a zombie even before wild fire smoke. Teamwork. Teamwork about a planning meeting. . And John Oliver is really funny. If Queen Elizabeth had the sense of humor she is talking about, I can see why she wanted to award him OBE. I can also see why he might decline.

Mercury in Retrograde: get out of jail free for all kinds of things?

about 5.5 hours of sleep. More or less steady sleep schedule helps for lots of things even fi just more sleep would be good.. King Charles' pen problems: I saw a headline that said he got inked. I thought that meant he got a tatoo. Hopefully now that Queen Elizabeth has been interred, some of the pageantry will dial back. That said, maybe it is not terrible to have a spell of enormous respect and celebration, especially considering that winter may be really rough for many reasons--bigger than just cat food getting way more expensive. I am tired of wildfire smoke.

Ironed pajamas and awesome funeral hats

6+ hours of sleep. I had to detach from pageantry and go to bed. It would never occur to me to want ironed sleepwear. Sheets MAYBE? But the hats!

Oh Good. Third Sunday means an organ recital as well as compline

Six hours of sleep means three hours of worships in my sleepwear. Time for annual medicare wellness exam. I am going to see whether steadier sleep can mellow out abdominal ouches in the places I already know about. Organ recitals are at least as cool as flash mobs. And ... Good thing for cameras off and no please describe yourself.  Alla Pugacheva was one of the most famous singers of the USSR. She remains an icon in 🇷🇺 and has > 3.400.000 Instagram followers. But, today she came out against the war in Ukraine🇺🇦. The more that established icons/influencers reject the war, the harder things are for Putin. pic.twitter.com/Yh45eYaTGL — Jason Jay Smart (@officejjsmart) September 18, 2022

The USAF Band - 2014 Holiday Flash Mob

Image
5ish hours of sleep. LOOK neighbors: I really really prefer NOT to move people's laundry out of a washer or a dryer, but for cripes sake please DO NOT leave your laundry unattended. Or if you do leave it unattended, PLEASE COME BACK FOR IT before the cycle ends. One of my neighbors had his entire load stolen out of the washer. Last night, I was probably WAY too kind to someone who did not come back for two full hours while I dried my wash in one machine to avoid moving his. Boo! Hiss. Then I forgot to send a reminder email because I would not have gotten up for a 9 am cross country zoom if my mentee had told me today is not going to work. Other than that, this week YouTube is serving me lots of volcanoes and flash mobs in between the domestic dumpster fire and the weaponry marketing and war crime horrors and regional geopolitics that is the Russian sphere of influence right now. Possibly I should save this one for Christmas. There is so much to unpack. The Prince of Peace. The mach

So I'm a sucker for flash mobs: "God Bless America" with Denver Brass

Image
About 5 hours of sleep. And when i woke up the CPAP was not on. Grrr. I got the carrot oatmeal breakfast cookies baked. They are great. I was going to mumble some other snark but just appreciate the music. This flash mob is not as much fun as others but it's a flash mob and a patriotic one at that.

Great moments in our democracy--and raising goats

Image
Two nights in a row 5 ish hours of sleep the first night. 5+ the second night. I was home getting some carrot oatmeal breakfast cookies started last night so the previous night did not get fully documented. I went to bed earlier than usual but did not sleep longer than the night before. Today I even worked in a chat with my sister before I needed to get dressed for two back to back zooms. The first was with mostly blind people so no one had their camera on. The second though... Massive cleanliness kudos in terms of taking out trash, recycling, AND compost, the whole package. If I am really living large I will also do laundry tonight but I have meeting nots to type first. And more great moments in our democracy. I love the commentators back and forth and not staying away from liberal sacred cows.  I can't remember whether this clip has the best moment at the end of the debate about being a mom to four boys and raising goats.

Yes there's still smoke, and Korean Lunch is REALLY garlicky today

A respectable 5 ish hours of sleep. I am a grownup. No one forced me to let myself get sucked into tweeting out great moments in the one and only debate between Lauren Boebert and a pretty credible sounding democratic opponent. SO MANY moments.... And the meeting I got up in time for got postponed. I SO want to charm other people into taking up some of what is on my mind. Plus I have a whole Powerpoint to help my neighbors digest particularly the pages about as the CFO put it yesterday "demo and dispo." Did I mention i am tired of smoke? I am tired of COVID which assuredly is still with us. And I am glad big swaths of a map are turning yellow EVEN THOUGH there are bunch of geopolitical and energy pricess reasons it could still be a rough winter. Aren't I barrel of fun. And for a picture from 2020 Bloomberg 2020 Amateur data mapping wildfire smoke in the Western US

I promised Cannons: the full Tchaikovsky - 1812 OVERTURE

Image
Miraculously about 6 hours of sleep. Oh the luxury of not worrying about morning schedule. My under the desk exerciser is a wonderful thing. I should use it more often. Brain is full of: --the war on Ukraine --the continual mutations of sordidness from TFG --assorted issues closer to home. I need to try to keep both psychic and physical space clearer. And here are the cannons I promised. TW: if you are jumpy about cannons and fiercy flashing, maybe skip this video and check out the version from a couple days ago.

Mormons do Danny Boy at Red Rocks

Image
6 ish hours of sleep. Wildfire smoke SUCKS especially when one's house needs attention. This musical selection is certainly indication of divine sense of humor. God created the glorious Red Rocks amphitheater and somehow the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was moved to don their concert uniformity and come sing Danny Boy. PS I promised cannons. There WILL be cannons.

Tomorrow the cannons

About 4.5 hours of sleep. This means I had the sense to go to bed in time to sleep before something worth waking up early for. It was very fun to talk fashion sort of with someone who laughed when I said I am allergic to getting run over and I wish that the line of clothing we were talking about had some items with hi-vis elements in the design so that the I need hi-vis look could have a little more flair. The cannons? Wait and see And now words from and about the cat, known on the internet as the Queen of Spades. Who? #QueenElizabeth ? #KingCharles ? Who are these people to me? To you? And why does the human refuse to call me Royal Highness? #caturday pic.twitter.com/J0G154RFED — Dorene Cornwell (@DoreneFC) September 10, 2022

1812 Overture, Flash Mob - No cannons. Wildfire smoke and nasty roasted brussels sprouts

Image
About 4 hours of sleep. Air quality indicator says wildfire smoke. No wonder I feel so sluggish.  Brain is all over the place. Partly sleep. Partly season... Getting out, walking, doing errands help, even if the dining en route means nasty badly treated roasted brussels sprouts. DO NOT waste good brussels sprouts the way these came out.  Hiding in the AC at the computer lab also helps. In marking the passing of world leaders (the Queen; Gorbachev) the world always needs a good orchestral flash mob, even if the traditional cannons are logistically difficult.

Long Live the King?

RIP Queen Elizabeth II 👑 She Achieved Her Dream of Dying Before Being Seen in a Wheelchair ❤️ pic.twitter.com/pXixdgVt9L — The Squeaky Wheel (@TheSqkyWheel) September 8, 2022 Almost 6 hours of sleep and much more respectable hour of retirement than night before last. Note to self: skipping late night munchies definitely helps about sleep. As for waking up hungry and not being able to go back to sleep even if schedule would permit....

Planning ahead for Thursday

Almost 5 hours of sleep. We will not discuss from when to when or the blessing of finally being calm enough to put thoughts to fingers even if the the fingers can't keep up with the thoughts and then it's bedtime and then more words and more videos and .... I can watch the morning techno zoom on Youtube. I think this one is a topic I am more interested in than average. As for the title, my daily silly emoji wished everyone a Happy Thursday. It's only Wednesday. People who noticed are good-natured about it. In other news, all the nuclear reactors at Zaporizhia are now disconnected from the local power grids though one is still generating enough electricity to run the cooling systems.. That is unsettling news for anyone worriedabout nuclear safety. Russia is also ignoring the UN call to demilitarize. Add what is happening or not happening for various pipelines and restarting French nuclear reactors. And Russia and China just made a deal to trade oil in yuan and rubles instead

The daily techno-rosary

Almost 6 hours of sleep. We will not discuss when it started and when it ended. It was good. More would have been better. Youtube decided to present a video from the Reagan library online of Reagan welcoming Gorbachev in 1987 to sign the intermediate nuclear forces treaty. At one of the international Quaker worships, someone had a message. Someone had asked Gorbachev, did he trust Reagan. He said no but he trusted the women of Greenham Common. What a wow! Other than that I am trying to be a functioning adult, turning over calendars, paying rent and other things.  There is just a certain amount of the right mouse clicks and finger movements needed depending on devices. Is it or is it not like performing the rosary. Today I am trying to activate a new card. Various threads of vexation. I will try again in a bit.

Happy labor day--with arugula afterbake.

Almost 6 hours of sleep. The grocery delivery came before the window. Toward the end of the window would have been better for sleep. I have too much on my mind and it's not all hitting the fingers. Also I should walk more but the day keeps shrinking and I have STUFF TO DO. So i gave up and ordered pizza. We will not talk about my Twitter / Youtube habit.  Do I hyperventilate about the ongoing Orange Foolius fiasco?  What about the Ukrainian nuclear power plant? What if the stories are entangled somehow. I would NOT be surprised if they are, along with ongoing epidemic of Russian oil executives / war critics falling out of windows? Thank you so much FBI for raiding my house--said NO ONE EVER.  Can we just have our daily servings of climate change and footsie about local homelessness issues? Happy Labor Day.

Leave the manatees alone!

6ish hours of sleep! More would have been good.   Audio was lame for Compline so I will have to look for other music to feel as relaxed as with a good compline. Messing with the mind of AI

5 hours of sleep amazingly considering when I went to bed. And if the Zoom topic is blindness and tech related, who cares how I am dressed. Also I don't know why I didn't figure out sooner but making single serving of oatmeal in the micro is just the bomb. And sometimes one goes out just for the pure humanness of seeing other fairly normal beings in fairly normal situations. The world will have to wait for the cat pic of the week. The messing with AI issue is what all does a visual recognition system need to decide an image is a cat.

Momentum

Image
Somewhere around 5 hours of sleep. It's so nice when things have momentum and one can do small pieces and then go back to being a news junkie with Youtube trying to feed me cat videos to keep me sane.  Ok, maybe i have too sanguine a view of Youtube. Much better parking job!

Why is it so hard to get to bed on Wednesdays.

Image
About 4.5 hours of sleep. I did not go back to bed because of a 10 am Zoom meeting that got postponed until 10:30 Considering all the ways to lose sleep and the extreme heat warning maybe I am supposed to count my blessings. The ever-popular poorly parked butt jutting into the walkway micro mobility device version 73 skedillion and one
