Would Turkey Buzzards help in Congress?

Image
More turkey buzzards. I WILL research the title of this tune but the name somehow seems on point considering the shenanigans on the way to a stop gap funding bill.      4.3 hours of sleep. Head cold is MUCH better. Still a deep cough, but it seems productive if also tiresome. I went out anyway but decided I really should wear a mask especially on the bus.

Roy Clark's Mesmerizing "Malagueña" (Live)

Image
I am not sure why this clip is so short but it's a start.  More versions to follow. 5.4 hours of sleep Solved the NYT crossword puzzle. Bicycle exercise late in the evening seemed worth it. Runny nose part of cold is much better. Cough is on its average arc for me, and I am wearing mask around other people. Happy respiratory virus season. And it's Friday open computer lab so I get to play cheerleader for a guy new to computers and just learning about a whole bunch of things. I am glad he has family to also encourage... Oh and I owe the world both some minutes and some braille. Adulting...

Doggett Gap: The first ever video of Appalachian music

Image
Not sure I believe the "first ever" claim. And I am not crazy about colorizing artifacts. I mean wasn't EVERYTHING in that era black and white?!? But here we are. More turkey buzzards and multiple renditions of Malaguena can wait. 6.3 hours of sleep! Clearly I needed it. Step away from the computer.  Do laundry until...never mind...including hanging up the socks and bat cleanup in the morning responding to a question about a problem report from the laundry app.

Rain and Bluegrass: Shoot That Turkey Buzzard

Image
For some reason YOutube decided I should be offered some bluegrass.  This title amuses me. I would like to know where it comes from but a superficial Google search only yielded various performances so stay tuned. Somewhere about 3 hours of sleep. I have a cold and other thoughts keeping me awake. I think I need to do mu shower at bedtime more often.

Better on the cello: Anastasia Kobekina | César Franck: Violin Sonata in A Major

Image
A really nice piece that does great on the cello Longer than some musical bits but it's that kind of day. 5.4 hours of sleep and I woke up with probably the first cold I have had since the pandemic. I probably brought it home but I am STILL glad I went to Quarterly. I am SO tired of masking and it is still a good idea not only because of COVID. Trying not to get sucked down the wrong news rabbit holes because I have plenty to do and it's harder to think while having a cold. And last night's probably not great bedtime viewing was nice bloodless animation with just enough audio all about what happens if nuclear weapons get launched. Everything that was old is new again?

From Before RantWoman and also before TV in the houseThis ROCKY BULLWINKLE EPISODE was BANNED For 45 YEARS

Image
The celeb biopic tone of the narration is highly entertaining. The deep dive into Rocky and Bullwinkle oddly entertaining. 5.5 UNINTERRUPTED hours of sleep, just in time to be home with NO worries about disturbing roommates. Contribution to welcoming newcomers: a lot of people sleep better the second night. Maybe the comment just summons better sleep. So today, real and hypothetical lawyer matchmaking: privacy law, surveillance and open data, fair housing, special education law, employment law perhaps with a side of ADA. Not all personally, but ON MY MIND It's RAINING, like a proper September and mercifully I got home before the rains came. And I now have several days of salmon chowder thanks to more gifted smoked salmon than one can imagine. PS a computer graphics generated and well narrated video about the sinking of the Titanic is kind of a surreal thing to watch before bed but somehow it was MUCH less unsettling than various options looming in Monday YouTube offerings.

Not this weekend's theme but anyway Serenata a un indocumentado by Los Jornaleros del Norte

Image
5.5 hours of sleep on Thursday 5.5  hours of sleep, so to speak Friday night 6.5 hours of sleep Saturday counting about 1.5 hours of just lying in bed and being warm. I meant to pick a different video but this one will do.

Wacky idea of the day. Making Ground Beef from Carrots?

Image
5.4 hours of sleep and I could not find the link for my desired 9:00 google slides with JAWS session. SIGH. fake hamburger from carrots at least sounds entertaining. Trying NOT to get sucked into current governmental insanity all over social media.

Techno with Oatmeal and hazelnuts

Image
Nostalgic for the 1980's and the era of music videos I couldn't see? Ummm. Let's just say day of rewarding Zooms but now I am too Zoomed out to want to post some of the really cool music bits in Drafts 4.2 hours of sleep.  Theoretically I could have gone back to bed and still made it to my 9:00 techno Zoom if I had just peed, gotten a drink of water and gone right back to bed. Instead I sat for a bit with no lights on and then made oatmeal and poured half the tea water all over the stove instead of into the mug. Roasted hazelnuts are awesome, and a spoonful of Nutella in the oatmeal with the hazelnuts is a breakfast feast.

Tired of Winning? 'We Didn’t Start the Fire’ Parody Sums Up Trump Presidency in 3 Minutes ...

Image
This version doesn't hang together as well as others I have seen. Oh well 5.2 hours of sleep. The warm shower before bed was a good idea. I wanted to be out the door for a 9 am meeting by 8 am. I made the bus about 8:20 and was 15 minutes late to the meeting. BUT bus instead of cab does not add another vehicle to traffic hot mess. World is for sure still figuring out Zoom etc. And between city council hearing about sidewalk bill and other traffic issue news I am both wired and tired. That of course has nothing to do with two cups of coffee at the meeting AND trying to handle other info streams on the phone. Nothing to do with it ;-(  Happy Tuesday.

With Mug shot version! WHEN DONALD CALLED DOWN TO GEORGIA,

Image
6.7 hours of sleep. Let's hear it for getting to bed at a decent hour. Today lots of zoom so exercise will be a short walk and the under the desk bicycle exerciser.

The compline link is not ready so instead a parody: Alternative Facts (the song)

Image
Compline was gorgeous. And I am still not going to turn into an Episcopalian 5.6 hours of sleep. Shower and hair wash in time to get to bed at a semi reasonable hour. Lots of turning ingredients into food. Today's things to drop off at Mom's: two black plums and 1 avocado: not ripe A small container of small tomatoes because I won't eat the whole container I bought. Two packets of cookies because I bulk ordered A LOT of them. And belated L'shana Tovah to all who celebrate and to the person who brought apples and huney to those who went in person.

Speaking of funky woodwind ensembles Ph.H. Erlebach: Ouverture g-Moll, Berliner Oboenbande

Image
5.6 hours of sleep. This is a result of coming home from fine dining out (fine, as in sustenance when one is feeling gastronomically lazy and there is a hot bar where one is buying bananas (and another payment detail left unspecified.) Showered yesterday so I even made it out the door in time to catch bus for blindness group. But not time to go get nonurgent pharmacy refill that awaits. Oh well. Such a GORGEOUS day.

Friday: Is Cauliflower and Walnuts the NEXT Ground Beef Replacement?

Image
Digression: cauliflower and walnuts with the right seasoning sounds like a fascinating idea. I do not necessarily need someone to try to persuade me that it's meat though. 4.2 hours  of sleep. I am a grownup. I am responsible for sleep timing. Bleah. Highlight of the day was LOVELY interaction at bank. The small pouch containing debit cards has somehow vanished, not to turn up in any of the ways I retraced steps. Thankfully no bad transactions but I was, gasp, faced with need to deal ALL WEEKEND with needing reasonable amounts of cash. Thank HEAVEN for temp cards. And I was gastronomically lazy enough, instead of turning ingredients into food at home, to go to Amazon Fresh, dine from the hot bar and BUY BANANAS green enough to still be edible all week. Grab success wherever one finds it.

Sun. Possibly sanity and BACH - CELLO SUITE No 2 in D Minor - Vahan Khourdoian, Bassoon

Image
6.8 GLORIOUS hours of sleep. No morning obligations. Wholesale inertia about anything but morbidly reading sordid details of cop running over pedestrian from January. THANK HEAVEN for persistent journalists. Other than that, I missed a walkable cities event to go to a vigil and march. What do we want? Better Chants, oh and environmentally astute Jesus voices haranguing the crowd. It's NOT a walkable city if someone can't walk home without a cop running her over doing 70 and the turn sirens on at the last second and buzz through intersections thing cops do all the time. Am I a little wired about all this? WHY YES,. Next question.

Actual Sleep: Mark O'Connor - Appalachia Waltz for Viola Solo

Image
5.8 hours of sleep Up in time for 9:00 zoom but some oops about not signing up ahead of time. Meetings did not turn out to be as burdensome as they might have been. News junkie had extra punch today: today's news outrage is cop attitude after speeding cop ran over a pedestrian.  I hate when accumulated trauma flares. PRAYERS to the young woman's family. And prayers that police officers will TELL THE TRUTH and that everyone has room for messy physics.

Because why NOT an eccentric title- Block Ice & Propane for Viola Solo

Image
Who knows where the title of this piece came from. Maybe the YouTube page says. The title just seemed right as a way to bookend a day of WAY more #September11 remembrances than one should dare wander into. Plus as my sister will tell anyone who asks or even sometimes who doesn't ask, violas rarely get the solos. 3 ish hours of sleep and none of it in bed. NO snacking after about 8 pm. I managed to function anyway which is weirdly gratifying. Therapist said she missed my cat. I do too. It's NOT time to get another one yet. And it's a season of Newtonian physics and moving vehicles and bodies and stopping under decidedly unfavorable circumstances and the road to new normal after.

Amy Sue Barston plays Appalachia Waltz by Mark O'Connor, solo cello version

Image
Reflective music just seems like a good idea, honoring the occasion without falling too far down a rabbit hole of new perspectives. And I STILL couldn't sleep without .... 3.8 hours of sleep Busy week. Lots of transportation meetings.

Yo-Yo Ma plays Appalachia Waltz

Image
I love the intro here because it helps one recognize musical idioms from the journey mentioned 5.7 hours of sleep. I went to bed early enough that I COULD have gone back to sleep. However after doing various sit and be warm measures, it was...Time To Take The Trash Out. Woohoo! Also visited Mom with a small diversion from usual path to stock up on fruits and limited veggies. She was pleased but more interested in fruit. I love being able to get Mom fruit. Busy week And this music gets to be the earworm of the week.

Saturday recipe??? How to make Banana Lentil Flatbread

Image
5.3 hours of sleep. Hair got washed. Trash did not get taken out. WONDERFUL meeting about war themed series. Out of fresh bananas let alone extremely ripe ones but this recipe is intriguing enough that I will look for some variants. Serious transit nerd geek out: yes it is possible to get all the way to a restaurant in Snohomish by transit, with several variations. But meeting up with ride from Redmond Transit center is better on multiple grounds.

Friday with the farting bedpost genre again: Contraforte Haydn Creation

Image
Listen for it. Listen for it. Serious farting bedpost noise at the end. The clip is cut and maybe I will go find the whole piece but in the meantime, the contraforte persists 4.7 hours of sleep. I HAVE TO figure out some kind of bedroom clock arrangement that I can see because another hour of sleep would still have worked with the rest of my schedule. Turning ingredients into food is a good way even aerobic to spend the evening. Blessed solo freedom on Friday nights with PLENTY to do and not enough exercise but hey...

New genre: LENTILS. This channel even has decent audio directions VEGAN LENTIL FLATBREAD » Gluten-Free, Oil Free, Super Simple to Make!

Image
5.7 hours of sleep. Building Picnic tomorrow cancelled because staff person has COVID. Yuck. Fambly discussions about POSSIBLE travel to favorite uncle's memorial: sensibly DOA unless I want to persuade Mom to fly me alone. I don't really. Also opened door to other topics family needs to work out. And I think I should keep a pain log and go see new primary care dr. Meanwhile, about my floor...?

YES, it sounds WEIRD How to Make Carrots Taste Like Hot Dogs | The Easiest Method | Classic H...

Image
Branching out from lower register instruments, how about some nice vegan meat approximations. 5.8 hours of sleep MUCH needed sleep, if only it started an hour earlier so I didn't miss my fave techno zoom Went from people are NUTS to go to Burning Man to "What would it take for a bunch of people with different disabilities to be collectively self-sufficient in the Nevada desert?"

Farewell summer. Bring on the next thing! Ashoken Farewell (for Cello Choir)

Image
Yes please, the more cellos or if one is being arty celli, the better 5.8 hours of sleep. Not counting an hour in the chair since I did not have the wit to GO TO BED. Day started SLOWLY with not enough energy to mop floor OR take out trash. I hope tomorrow or Thursday are better for that.

holiday and Very muddy burning man Tubular Bells Finale: Arranged for a bunch of Bassoons/Contrabassoons

Image
4.2 hours of sleep Nothing like stimulating spur of the moment very intellectually engaging Zoom to keep one wide eyed when sleep would not be terrible lovely lunch with Mom and walks on bus connections

The most current version of this song of which there are several The Donald Called Down To Georgia (song parody)

Image
5.8 hours of sleep Fetched mail. 3 fruitful zooms 6 loads of laundry including one that had to be rerun in a different washer because of standing water in malfunctioning washer. Worship underdressed but my hair was clean.

Speaking of things to be awake about A Rare Comet is Approaching our Planet!

Image
5.6 hours of sleep.  I missed everything but pictures and web reports about the Super blue moon. Oh well. Too many words and too many themes. Let's see how many I can handle before I fall asleep.
