What are you wearing?

Image
Almost NINE hours of sleep The chicken needed to be baked. That took until 2 am, I woke up after 8. I had hoped to get a shower before sessions started at 9. Good thing it was a webinar. Don't tell anyone I went back to bed or what percentage of the session I slept through (most of it--sigh) Jack O Lantern Yes usually convention sessions suggest business attire. The shower happened at 5 pm after elections. I would have ignored the banquet except I was getting an award for advocacy. Not sorry I stuck around for the speech. Title references a heated discussion about whether blind people like knowing what other people are weardin.

Radioactive pee

3.5 hours of sleep. Nothing like a 6 am ride to a 7 am checkin. To heck with COVID issues. Actually moving around is better for energy level than cowering in a chair or bed. Keep mask on as much as possible in car, at clinic..... Nothing like getting to 7 am appointment at 6:20 with masks on so face to face not even really on point. 7 am means get IV put in and then lounge in a chair watching the sky slowly emerge followed by one shot shot of "dose" followed by like 40 minutes for the markers to spread through out the body. Then pee before the scan. Very nuclear to have radioactive pee. Maybe I can work in a nap but not until after MY / our conference session. I had WAY too much fund writing the how not to do it skit.

Hand sanitizer is evil and smelly

over SIX hours of sleep. Trash needs to go out. Laundry needs to happen. Dishes need to get washed. Maybe some of these will happen this afternoon. Between two kinds of hand sanitizer and commercial soap from the restroom, I can barely stand to be around my hown hands. YUCK. Multiple communications fiascoes about COVID test. I am just going to decide I do not feel any worse than a couple previous times.... Getting ready for virtual blind people convention. Grumbles and people who need to delegate and fragile egos. Too much fun Too much fun.

Candy corn

Image
Somewhere almost EIGHT hours. Unfortunately I think that means I should call about a COVID test before my PET scan on Friday. Maybe should have thought of that today. I cannot decide whether I even like feeling this responsible. But first thing tomorrow. Two yellow orange white candy corns Meanwhile, a quest for some free candy corn images in order to riff on Halloween, toddler across the hall who is too young to learn about trick or treating but is doing an AWESOME job of just standing in the doorway and looking at the cat. Cat tolerates the looking well and everyone is grateful for no chasing. Anyway I found some images but I also found funky recipes for candy corn rice krispie treats and pumpkin something. Not sure I even need to eat candy corn just have thoughts.  I wish I felt like baking something but my fridge is already a problem zone and the news is plenty scary enough.

Cat is bored. NO! NOT suppertime

Image
Solid six hours of sleep. Can you say go to bed early? Sunny fall day I feel somewhat better this morning. Still no enthusiasm for chores. Happy Tuesday. Cat is bored. She is certain it is suppertime. I am certain it is time to get out of the house for awhile. Poor starvating kitty

Go to bed early?

So over the last two days I have gotten a TON of sleep, like I do not even know how many hours. I think I am touched that this level of sleeping has family all concerned. Could it be COVID??? I told them for now keep checking on me. Maybe I will call the COVID hotline. Maybe I will fret about eye stuff. Maybe I will jsut go to bed early again tonight. Not like I have brain cells to do much else.

Comb and mostly Christmas present brush

Even when I GO TO BED earlier, I still only slept 4.5 hours last night.  I lounged in my warm cocoon for a bit before giving in to the sirens of full bladder and hungry cat  Hairbrush and wide-tooth comb on a red potholder on a wooden desk Back to bed would theoretically have been possible. Instead: --Rare actual voice convo with my sister. --Finish the crossword puzzle I was stuck on last night. I had to check puzzle a couple times to find errors but in the end I solved it all. --Morning Twitter after presidential and lieutenant governor debate. Lt. Gov via twitter was not really adequate. Either go to bed or feed me breakfast

Image
4.5 hours of sleep. Too much morning Twitter meant i did not go back to bed even though that would be a good idea.  Cat pic has a time stamp. Cat pic is the basis for the post title. The Queen of Spades But an incoming phone call saved me having to call someone back and now I have an appointment scheduled but danged if I wrote down the date. The window is between 8 and 10 am. I assume the person knows they should wear a mask. Also did not yet pick up a prescription for something I am not taking because it makes me feel woolly headed in the morning and because I seem unable to get to bed early enough to get any advantage. I think I should tell the pharmacist not to give me any more until ... There appears to be a weird window: if I get to sleep before then things are fine. If not I will not get to sleep until after the window. Other than that, my sister likes to kid me about making celery salad with tuna. Today the celery had been in the fridge long enough it needed to be cooked so I m

Silly Alumni Swag

Image
Why yes, if I go to bed earlier, I do get a tad more sleep. Like 4.5 hours and then not be able to go back to bed because of second day of really rocking Not Back to Normal after COVID transportation webinar. Still earlier is not early enough especially since I am trying to detach from computer at time of first reboot. Fun with my fave tiger image Silly alumni swag from online sale.  Awesome water bottles. Package was yesterday's errand. It was good to get out in the sun. That makes it easier to stay home out of the pouring rain. Lots of condiments at Hay Tai yesterday. No powdered milk or cocoa. Oh well. But I bought oil and tahini because of good prices and assumptions that things may get scarcer and more expensive since supply lines are clearly uneven and disrupted. Alleged roof repait? Not sure it's happening. I decided I need big screen to deal w slides for webinar. That was a good idea but the world still gets more than one blog post...

Food Prep rampage

Image
Easy to get almost 5 hours of sleep when one goes to bed earlier. Not snacking late also helps. Pumpkin bread / cake More exercise would be better but today was ups and downs about that. I actually wanted to move around in spurts. Out of the spurts I made my concocted sort of custardy pumpkin bread. It will be fine for breakfast for several days and by that time I will get some more eggs to hard boil and oatmeal  I had a decent day of exercise just because of bus segments and shopping at Hy Tai Market. I adore that place. It's the kind of international grocery where one can get tahini, kim chi, pan dulce, thai, filipino, and vietnamese snacks as well as the kind of weird eastern european canned vegetables  RantWoman eats in lieu of more expensive journeys. Only one Cane wants to Thwack a car in the crosswalk moment. Luckily the car made a right on red and got out of the way. Then actually crossing Aurora somebody turned left behind me after I had just passed. Technically I think t

Photogenic lentil brownies

Image
Five exciting hours of sleep as in I got to bed early enough to get 5 hours in the first spell. Of course some chores did not happen.  Home office and food lab output I had a webinar at 9:00 and did not get a shower until the lunch break. But I simmered lentils during the morning session and mixed and baked during the afternoon session. And my email says I missed something I intended to attend over the weekend. This online calendar still needs a paprt parallel. Sigh

Snarky Parody! Wear a Mask (Be Our Guest Parody)

Image
About 4.5 hours of sleep because going back to bed was not feasible. The universe clearly needs more snarky parody. That is all for today.

Sleep Burrito

Image
Almost SIX hours of sleep. That includes waking up rolled in the blankets like a nice burrito and going back to bed for TWO HOURS.  (PS nephew is WAY to adult to roll into burrito like a family friend and his auntie used to do. Go kid!) Cooler weather is so nice for sleeping.      Venus Ascending Helen Drummond I have now spent almost 5 hours in a row on Zoom.  Boy do I know how to party. I MUST move.at least go feed the cat.

Keyboard withdrawal

Image
Bah. Four hours of sleep because even though I went home before the computer rebooted at 1 am I still did not get to bed until... And going back to bed was not practical and i did not even get a shower until after the morning Zoom call. We interrupt this sleeps not meditation for ...Pumpkin! Image from  pumpkin-snack-board recipe link Glorious Jack-o-lantern image made of many forms of sugar Why pumpkins? I went looking for an image that would make a good tactile graphic IF I were observing my before times Friday afternoon ritual of messing around with the tactile graphics software. I found a couple images that would work MUCH better than this one but I decided this display of sugar art is so appalling that we all get to admire that and maybe next week I will choose something simpler that will reproduce better as tactile art. And further trauma: Besides old operating system issues, hand me down iPad has the same problem for me as all laptops: I hunch over and try to read and then

Happy White Cane Great Shakeout mumbledy mumbledy else day

Almost SEVEN hours of sleep! Today's #a11y whine besides all the #WHiteCaneDay  #WhiteCaneSafetyDay #WhiteCaneAwareness social media bits with graphics and no alt text: This envelope contains a letter thanking RantWoman for agreeing to serve on another "will work for sandwiches" appointment--for something to do with disabilities. The staffperson with the accessibility hat on is new to the job and probably has no basis for thinking about whether something coming from another department is accessible. But RantWoman would be SO MUCH happier if this all came by email. Happy Day Snail Mail Does anyone still do snail mail? Achieved how? Get the crossword done early in the evening. GO TO BED when the computer automatically reboots the first time. Okay put stuff away and head upstairs even if not make it to bed right away. Go back to bed after breakfast for TWO WHOLE hours. Three zooms today. Well two zooms and one in webex. Can you say video conferencing world tour? can you say

Autocorrect and autopredict meet the hand-me-down iPad

Image
The Cleaned up Version Here is the cleaned up version. There is a heading. The heading begins what autocorrect and autopredict did to my extremely insightful and thoughtful prose. Note, there are also insertions just because. 4 ish hours of sleep. anxiety and crossword puzzle plus WAY too much late-night snacking. The Queen of Spades No computer lab during work hours because building ins getting reroofed. And hand me down iPad is not running current enough software to blog directly so this gets composed in email and pasted in later. This is supposed to motivate me to get my own computer working right. It may motivate me to buy a laptop. Maybe. Kitchen floor needs attention. So does paper level.and refrigerator And I need lemons. But I can wash dishes. Meanwhile hashtag #WhiteCaneday making its way around the world with opportunities to forward items in Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Swedish, Chinese and either Japanese or Korean. and I have already griped at several places, places that supp

SIX hours of sleep.  Flip tab on L Weird twisty half moon opening on R Go back to bed after breakfast meant TWO hours. But I cut it a little close as far as an online appointment for which I prefer to be appropriately dressed with socks on and hair combed. Today in spite of daily computer startup rituals I made the socks part and once things settled in I had enough going on to not focus on the scalp itch  But I am glad hair got combed and rebraided soon after end  of appointment. Subtext here also about sibling rivalry, my sister's recent need to tell me about her hair issues and BOY am I glad to have only my own problems and how I am both annoyed and sorry about my sister's challenges. Welcome to Planet RantWoman The Go to bed side of things is still kinked  I should download some books from BARD and figure out why the talking book reader does nto hold a charge well and get in bed enough earlier to have a go at a braille psalm... And WHY dos the world need to know about my wa

Monday emojis

Image
Somewhere towards 6 hours, about 5 actually in bed. To get that much sleep I went back to bed after breakfast and slept until past 11. The luxury of a blank schedule except I skipped a travel errand I will have to do another day. Enough with the cat pics Try a keyboard I listened to a little bit of the confirmation hearing.  Breakfast was funky comfort food: instant refritos, salsa, a hard-boiled egg. But i made plenty of porridge for the next several days. I hate antibiotics for H pylori.  Oops and I forgot to explain the emojis. Alvaro el axolotl is my buddy. There is a description theme to riff on but maybe in another post.

Zeh-bras

somewhere close to 5 hours of sleep. No late-night munchies but big weird burps sometimes when I move around. Blind people chat was cool. interesting how different nuggets of information sopark long conversations. Anyway, slept decently. Woke up and decided that rather than noodle around anymore I would keep the puzzle solve time under 2 hours and just do reveal puzzle for about the last 20 letters. In some cases I felt silly. In other cases i still have not figured out the how or why of sometimes on Sundays one square gets like 3 letters. RTFM. Instructions? What instructions. And the zebras? RantMom says youngest male giraffe at the zoo is off to enjoy puberty, breeding age at a far away zoo. And one of my Twitter peeps says there is a new baby gorilla at the zoo.  But the zeh-bras is in honor of my phone deciding for reason I have anything to do with that it needs weird new accents. And the zeebras are for another post.

Live on camera: all this technology to photograph ...oatmeal!

Image
Almost 5 hours of sleep. No food after supper. Ate breakfast after shower before sleep. Breakfast  of  Champions And Immobilized dealing with... but very cool Black disabled Joy webinar and the smart blind people chat is lively.

Tapping my ORCA card to pay my fare seems so...normal

Somewhere close to 4 hours of sleep. I need to keep that number above 4. Eating lentil brownies with instant coffee int hem at 10 pm is not a good recipe for sleep. There were dried cranberries and cheddar cheese and popcorn too. Sleep was precious when it finally arrived but morning schedule was an impediment. Today I was out and got many bus segments of exercise between bus stop and destination. Bus drivers are now less fanatical about enforcing rules for passengers. They just have nice plexiglass barrier for themselves. Good on them.  And being able to pay fares is such a morale boost on so many levels. I get to go retrieve package AGAIN tomorrow because the UPS store inadvertantly gave it to someone else. The Someone else brought it back but late in the day after i already departed. Not auditioning any ear worms. Maybe I will just listen to either Cello suite #2 in D minor or Suite 5 ?

No Eddie Van Halen earworm at least not yet

Approximately 4.5 hours of sleep actually in bed and another half hour + in a chair listening sort of to a video. There were FOUR webinars I could have gone to for the walk ride summit. I missed one with lots of practicality for the Defund the police crowd. Webinars are good because being on camera is not expected. Daily showers are awesome for my mood but the shower did not happen until after the first webinar. And the second was not in my brain. The third one was sort of cool. I also just RT's someone else's pithy observation. Oh and the cat thanks the webinars for lap availability. Yep. Still the cat Her Royal Catliness,  The Queen of Spades Just got to computer lab after 10. need to email dr about weird symptom I forgot on Tuesday and question to clarify and an oh here is my thinking and one key worry.  And a bunch of other emails to answer. Look WCB peeps. We're the advocacy committee. We have STUFF we wanna discuss. How about you just create a list so we can do that,

Cat people?

Image
A solid 5 hours of sleep. Not counting falling asleep while Seth Myers scorned the Prez over his COVID    situation. The Queen of Spades  Going back to bed would have been good. The cat is gravely offended that  1. The cellphone camera looks at her and says "0 faces" and 2. that I will not let her have her own Twitter handle but insist on making her play on mine with my "Cat people" list of people for whom my first contact no matter what else they post was about cats. I am sure readers need to know this. Also I did not make it dressed for the first Zoom call so everyone got to cope with my avatar and no video. Tough. And one outcome of yesterday's medical visit: some ramble about symptoms and circumstances is probably going to creep in for awhile. The main point: referral was from an incidental finding. Lab results suggest something to watch but I am not having symptoms of serious problems. Incidental finding could mean just monitor for awhile. But meanwhile im

Laundry! Not all of it but definitely enough for awhile, And....

Somewhere over 5 hours of sleep if one counts falling asleep while John Oliver enumerates all the numerical reasons people in the US are basically screwed as far as full representation. Four +  hours actually in bed and then up in time to travel to appointment but not to take a shower or go back to bed. Random moments: Laundry room was busier than usual though I tend not to go there on weeknights anyway. Lots of people wanting to do laundry, a couple of them kind of sketchy. One of them making me edgy in same ways as my brother: smelling of beer, fussing with computer and has to dig for quarters to dry his backpack. Standing too close when there was plenty of space on the other end of the counter.  I can't remember whether he was wearing a mask. I was and with glasses and a hat I felt okay. Plus i had already started laundry and was not going to leave it unattended.  Sketchy guy told he he was headed out on some journey today. He also finally left the laundry room. But if I w

The other Thwack has reappeared

Image
Somewhere over SIX hours total counting falling asleep after late supper and going back to bed until 10am.  The late supper was I think the last of the lima bean and zuccini stew. Labels on the freezer containers are for ... well not for me. It's good stew, just that yesterday was probably too many carbs and not enough exercise. And laundry still did not happen so it HAS TO happen tonight. Living large and wild here. On the way to gathering laundry, I found the white cane that went AWOL during the last bout with laundry. Yes, all my canes are named Thwack. On top of that some prefer male pronouns. Some prefer female pronouns. But at least this one did not get lost in the borrowed for laundry shopping cart.       Now if I could find the clothes that MAYBE I left in the laundry room or maybe one of my neighbors decided they need worse than I do. 2 folded 60" WCIB canes  with roller tips Email contains a "we have not been communicating well" missive from housing author

Everyone needs an Avis Wanda Victory garden

Image
Four hours of sleep has to do.  The NYT Sunday puzzle took about two hours. Porridge got made in the morning before ARE at SSFM But more sleep would definitely be good. And in the meantime everyone needs an Avis Wanda Victory garden Avis Wanda has the most interesting voice. And the victory garden is so practical. And that is enough for today.

Zoom x too many

Image
Sort of four hours but that counts several spells of falling asleep in chairs.  Light Dark Shadows Chair Cat No food after supper from Taco time at about 6:30 but that meant I woke up ravenous at about 6. Time to make some more oatmeal and I thought I had another banana. I decided just to hard boil the last of the eggs and save lazy pumpkin loaf from my GF pancake mix for another time. Yogurt with PB and toast is not my usual breakfast but that is definitely a first world problem. And here is the cat, mixed in the shadows.  I realized I need to let my mom be with me at a first appointment if only because her volunteer gig was so helpful TO HER when she first moved to Seattle. Stay tuned. I guess I have 3 zooms and a conference call. I likely will miss the conference call. Sigh. Yawn.

No rest for....

Image
almost 5 hours before breakfast and 2 MORE after breakfast.  Last night's bedtime snacking included packets of dried peas and dried apricots and for balance reese's peanut butter cups. Weird balance of make me sleep and make me wired. But it was also a full moon so maybe I am lucky I got any sleep at all. Again with the go back to sleep trying to self-soothe and wake up clearer than ever. Hold in the Light. Random sample of work process. Phone reminds me I have a Zoom meeting about disabilities issues. Join Late. It's small just getting started and full of same Personality with a capital P issues from one person as ever. NOT dressed. Not only no bra but sleepwear is inappropriately ventilated if one is going to be seen on camera. Twitter invites me to something at InterOp that is interesting AI isssues to the extent that I have time to do anything except ask questions about biased algorithm. But no, I don't get to sign up yet because on phone hard to type a password and

Baking Lentil Brownies at 2 am, clean dishes, and plastic face shields

Image
Somewhere close to 5 hours of sleep total. If i had actually gone to bed when i first felt sleepy....     On the other hand, I had been hot soaking my lentils all day, bringing them to a boil when i came in and turning them off, so baking lentil brownies at 2 am was not completely insane. This time maybe not enough sweetening but smoother texture than sometimes. If I really want smooth texture i can figure out how to get and find counter space for a blender or food processor. So far I have not felt that is a must.  The problem with going to bed when I did is that by the time one is fully awake the morning is half gone. Plastic face shields I had a good phone conversation. And I washed my dishes and did another chore.. And I have about 3 critical emails to do besides laundry. And mail included 5 plastic face shields for when i need to talk to someone who lipreads. They are mask like, not what i was expecting but don't argue..
