Not snowing. Not raining. Just slushing.

Almost 6 hours of sleep. Kiev worship people had power last night but mentioned that it is intermittent. STUPID War. In the 'hood before I went to bed there was stuff accumulated on the ground. It was not snow. It was not rain. It was slushing. Splat splat. No power issues here but friends in Snoho county lost power for awhile. At least it's not stupid war just average winter issues.

It's either the volcano again or a cat pic.

Somewhere over 5.5 hours of sleep. Cold air is very exhilarating. And I am VERY glad not to be sleeping rough outside somewhere. Cat is also glad. And I am somewhere in emotional paralysis but making it one step at a time. Welcome to winter. Save a new volcano video for another day.  Cat is always ready to demonstrate napping prowess.

My favorite volcano again. IMPACT of the 2022 Hunga Tonga Volcanic Eruption

Image
I THINK I actually made it to almost 6 hours of sleep. Now if I can do that more consistently. I like these volcano videos because there is not a single blessed thing that corrupt politicians can do about volcanic eruptions. If the volcano's gonna blow, it's gonna blow. But the story of impact and finding out about it is also such an interesting distraction from, say, Russian bombing civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Happy Monday.

I Facebook therefore I am and so is my fam.

3 bleeping hours of sleep. Alcohol plus late night carbs plus deliberate (?) effort to (choose one of several explanations) Also needed to do some FB posts. I was late to every MfW I wanted to join. Grocery order arrived. I did not notice when I clicked the magical button that some of what I wanted was out of stock. AND the driver took three tries before he found the right entrance. First world problems. And my Christmas cactus keeps getting more and more lovely.  More blossoms Less adept photo framer.

What happened to the grocery order?

Image
about SIX hours of sleep. 4 loads of laundry and only one neighbor, a native English speaker, came in part way through.   I thought I had placed a grocery order and set an arrival window I couldn't go back to bed for.  No idea what happened. At least I made a pitiful attempt at labor solidarity and skipped ordering on Make Amazon Pay Day First world problems Daily Christmas cactus photo

Blurting out...

Almost 6 hours of sleep. Ahh the transformations of wealth. Pre inheritance my mother would NEVER dream of bringing the family dog when we go out to dinner. We will also not discuss the fact that the dog is not really crate-chained. But along came the hound to curl up under the table AND Mom and my sister asked for two takeout bowls, one for water and one for food.  This is the after dinner hang out time. As for bluriting out, stay tuned in another blog. Toby the geriatric wonder chihuahua crashed out on Mom's carpet.

4.5  hours of sleep Much family joy letting someone else do the work and not tempting anyone to overdo. Great tales of nephew road trippery and a certain level of fretting about life Direction. Plus ... Oh noes. Maybe i clobbered tbe volcano video.    That's what i get for editing on my phobe.

4+ hours of sleep is of course not enough. And gratitude for everyone who has vacation days and therefore I can let deadlines slip and make cranberry relish and ... Content warning: language.

Almost 6 hours of sleep Weird thresholds: new cellphone. get rid of land line. close a bank account. Update a whole bunch of passwords. Try not to think about .... And Thanksgiving is coming.  And my Christmas cactus just makes me SO happy.

Christmas cactus!

Almost6 hours of sleep. Still need to catch up. Tomorrow I will try to deal with phone again.  And another Christmas Cactus shot Plant bliss especially since the plant does most of the work

West Coast time

5 hours of sleep Friday 4 hours Saturday I appreciate being awake early enough to see more of the daylight but I think I will be glad to settle back into more of Pacific time schedule.

Bless your heart cat

5 hours of sleep. I got the cat an entirely fresh cat box. I even made it to bed in time for a legit 6 hours of sleep. And I have a hungry cat. Cat helped me survive the pandemic so I SHOULD try to be indulgent and appreciative.  Tirade of the day: Further tirade, probably unhelpful. I think legislators who have no medical qualifications should be hauled before whatever accountability options are available for practicing medicine without a license when they impose legal standards that contradict medical science and endanger the pregnant person's life way more than the risk of pregnancy in the first place. Permanent exile to Gitmo is probably going too far, but I do not understand why medical associations are not taking really strong stances about this.WHERE are their backbones? And in travels with Ambassador Thwack the Badly Behaved White Cane and Anger Management Consultant, today offered a refreshing break from "Grab The Blind Person and Bless Them or drag the across the str

The first Christmas cactus blossoms of the season.

I am a grownup. I know 4 hours of sleep is barely adequate even if I did make it live on Zoom to a lobby meeting. Due to multiple commitments I did not make it to all the Zooms on my schedule. The world won't stop. Okay okay, it's more Thanksgiving cactus than #ChristmasCactus but either way the blooms always cheer me.  Christmas Cactuses with both white and pink blossoms

And in other news, a fluffy cat video.Ahhhh!

5 hours of sleep  AND Vertical but dressed in the purple hoodie for an all morning transportation zoom. This FCNL annual meeting is VERY cool. And my Thursday is also jammed.

Zoom makes one lazy

About 5.5 hours of sleep. I am responsible for going to bed too late to get professionally dressed before the once a quarter Zoom. I LOVE going to meetings where other people echo and amplify my concerns! Other than that constant news feeds are a mixed blessings. Just as anxieties are easing A LITTLE about the elections, it's RUSSIAN MISSILES HITTING POLAND. What messy needles to thread...

On paying forward, not doing homework and just owning the call to KEEP talking about accessibility.

5 hours of sleep.     Not enough sleep or exercise but I am SO glad that a decent chunk of walking is built in to even going between computer lab and my apartment. Oh noes. Day is already full and I just added something based on a connection via LinkedIn Not doing homework has to do with a mentoring program. The person I am mentoring is even busier than I am. So I will write of paying it forward and deciding when just to let something slip.

85 and counting.

6 hours of sleep. Much warm fuzziness from birthday party. After some arrrggh moments about someone feeling sniffly and a little feverish who still wanted to help Grandma with Zoom AND then take off on a road trip to MT. The CAKE

Happy 85th MOM with multigenerational Zoom party

5 hours of sleep. Wine tends to put me to sleep. Other alcohol not so much but I think there was a short nap amid the youtube fix. BI zoom hosted the birthday party. It was so sweet.  The in-person part was awkward. Nephew was not feeling well but grandma, the birthday girl was fine with having feverish sniffly nephew come over. The rule is he wears a mask in the hallway at least. But after the Zoom call, sister and husband bailed. And I forgot about a Sound Transit repair schedule and picked exactly the wrong bus routing so it took me longer than on the train to get to Mom's. I am a pizza snob but for my trouble I have sad thin crust domino's pizza for breakfast if I want it. And the cake was too much. And I don't want to gripe right away but MAYBE try to talk to sister IN ADVANCE of next attempt at family togetherness. Really special to see cousins and hear memories of life on the ranch AND hear from the one aunt who is still in touch with one now deceased uncle's fi

Oh noes! No internet ALL DAY

Image
5.5 hours of sleep. Three loads of laundry in a completely empty no need to share anything laundry room. Late at night, middle of the week seems to be a good time. 2 of 3 washers working and this time the alleged card reader was what was not working. But there were multilingual signs telling people not to leave their laundry unattended. Bummer of the day: no internet in the computer lab. I accurately diagnosed some kind of an area outage. I could have done plan b at home. But I did not. I quaintly used the telephone. And took a nap. And turned ingredients into food AND cleaned up some dishes. Add to that getting to order a new phone because Verizon reached out to me! Then there is trying to cajole one technophobic aunt and uncle into a path to the family zoom tomorrow for Mom's birthday. I am cross that they want magic that is barely achievable. There is a plan B that will probably minimize some family frictions anyway but happy 85th MOM! Did I mention that THE HOT WATER IS BACK an

A shower? A shower?

about 5.5 hours of sleep but achieved at a more reasonable start and end time. First nip at email: three threads which contain some flavor of absolute nonsense. One of the threads of nonsense cancels a meeting so just prepare for the next in the sequence. Next thread is complex but sounds less nonsensical when the key person turned out to be live and in person except the part about no one knew he was available. Third thread has a piece that sounds so nonsensical that... Many signs--in teeny tiny print--resulted and I decided just to do a sponge bath rather than freeze in a shower with no hot water. First world problems?

Starting and ending WHEN?

5.5 hours of sleep. I missed one morning event I will have to consume on Youtube. TIme change is good for something. Now I can go back to Tuesday / Wednesday worship with Friends in Kiev. Exercise yesterday was taking out trash. Today HOPEFULLY, laundry. Um no, laundry isn't happening because no hot water among other things. New toy: braille e-reader to get in better touch with what I want to read.

Election day jitters and trash removal

About 5.6 hours of sleep.  MUST do better. The below story of urban beauty may have been possible only because it was rainy and none of the car campers had ventured forth, but the walkable sidewalk is a glorious contribution to the neighborhood.      Unobstructed sidewalk: As beautiful a sight as a row of car campers can be

How Tonga's Volcanic Eruption Created The Worst Floods In Australia's History

Image
Basically 6 hours of sleep.  I even got my bed linens run through the dryer and my sheets changed.  This morning I turned some ingredients into food and then ran an errand. Time change severely reduces my inclination to run around but I WILL SURVIVE. And THE HEAT WORKS at the computer lab. I know, this is a lot of caps. Not necessarily sorry but I will now calm down watching another volcano video. Yep, I think the planet is still melting, but look what a volcanic eruption can add to the picture.

Time change

5+ hours of sleep.  It felt REALLY good to take a shower. Now if only the STAR Center HVAC system could get reprogrammed for winter. I WILL change my sheets.

NO HOT WATER ALL FREAKING DAY and now it's BACK!

Image
Somewhere close to 6 hours of sleep. Several very energizing Zooms but I still need to take the trash out and do laundry and bake my carrot oatmeal breakfast cookies. Last night's excuse for not going to bed was a word-nerd excursion about blindness vocabulary in Spanish.  Stay tuned for updates. Day was rich in social contacts via Zoom but also chopping and freezing unexpected vegetable abundance And a reprise of the graffiti photo including graffiti on glass in honor of other late night search engine nerdery and suggestions such as nail polish remover and paint thinner. I needed a fall foliage picture again

Three threads. One reply per day

5 hours of sleep in bed plus 1.5 hours of before bedtime nap. Theme of turning ingredients into food. Theme also of 3 or 4 followups to an awesome meeting yesterday. I did what I said I would do. It is first draft time. The work together will be cool. Other than that I had to deal with two new passwords today. Don't I know how to have fun! If I was going to gripe about busy background and acres of tiny print I should have stuck it out. It's cheerful. I just can't read anything . Whine

Thursday already?

6+  hours of sleep. Some kind of technical difficulties getting into a Zoom meeting on my phone. I just send a description of the what I think an issue might be in HOPES that it can be forwarded to a tech support person and everyone can learn....

Graffiti, distraction from anxiety, and COVID

Image
4.5 hours of sleep Theoretically I could have squeezed in another hour of sleep but breakfast beckoned and then out the door for a routine medical appointment. We will embrace part of where the medical appointment led in scathing terms elsewhere. One interesting point from the medical visit. When I got home for the first time ever, I got a cheery summons from my WANotify app. Congratulations. You were close enough to someone who both has a smartphone and graciously self-reported being positive that you should consider.... Gee. Nothing is worse than average and the timing was .... RantWoman is doing well in the charm-challenged department for other reasons. Possibly there is some kinder way to say "Use the search string 'remove graffiti on glass' for hot tips." Possibly. In the meantime, the graffiti and fall colors helping hide it. Fall colors with a rash of graffiti

Henri the Existential cat in several languages Henri, o gato existencialista

Image
At least 6.5 hours of sleep. Full bladder and hungry cat and it takes amazingly long to lose the shirt one intended to wear, choose a perfectly fine alternate shirt and then find the originally intended shirt. There are worse problems in life. including a therapist who recommends Henri the existential cat. The cat videos are lovely, the subtitles visually definitely not so much. So I pretend I am enough of a linguistic badass to understand more than a little of the spoken French. There is a lot of Henri on YouTube so maybe I will revisit. And we celebrate my bold move to pack all the clothes I want to get rid of in the boxes I get from Amazon so the next time my ardent thrift storing friend comes by to drink tea and unload her travails in the presence of my absurd capacity to laugh completely inappropriately some of the clothes and the boxes can all go out the door to their next destination in the universe. Yes, that's a run-on. Tough!
