In Case one does not have enough things keeping them awake: Thousands of emperor penguins killed in the Antarctic - BBC News

4.4 hours of sleep. Another hour would have been grand but once up, going back to bed....

Contrabassoons forever Let it go from "FROZEN" for Contrabass Quartet

Image
5.9 hours of sleep. Cat videos are no substitute for live cat. Back to a mix of war in Ukraine and legal ins and outs of Trumparama. Mleah.

Pretty sure no Contrabassoons at Burning Man but Gareth Churchill - Firepit for solo Contrabassoon

Image
5.2 hours of sleep. Morning phone appointments are a mixed blessing. And dig this video in ironic appreciation of Fox News covering some kind of ecological road blocking protest on the road to Burning Man. If Faux Snooze is the only channel covering it, what is one to make of propaganda angles?

5.2 hours of sleep. We will not discuss starting and ending when. Nor will we discuss late afternoon black tea OR the temptation to eat at previously normal levels eve n though less is actually more comfortable. Such learning. And the quixotic quest to have melodic contrabassoon works here!

Laughing Kookaburra and some RIPs

Image
5.6 hours of sleep. There is a point of no return to bed no matter how early one wakes up. Moderate air quality and need to move large muscles = visit to Mom and assorted adventures in quest for food on the way home. I am not crazy about escalators and had already passed up multiple grocery options so fresh bananas will have to wait, Instead new and overpriced soul food place so I am very full. Other than that, RIP Uncle Jim the steelworker and bus driver. Dementia's a bitch and he died 3 days after entering hospice. And RIP Artemis, someone else's black cat.  So here I am being enough of an Episcopalian to listen to Compline even though... And another animal vid just to keep anyone from falling down too many rabbit holes.

It's a day for joy and play and ...Thomas The Tank Engine (Bassoon Quartet)

Image
a glorious 6 hours of sleep followed by at day of social media for the 60th anniversary of the MLK I have a Dream speech. I can't believe it's been 40 years since I helped direct traffic at one of the bus lots for the 20th anniversary. and the occasion full of dreamers is of course WAY more hopeful and joyous than say #J6 and also a timeline cleanse from all the vids of schemers being brought to justice. Further, I am going to brave the orange pins on the AQI map and go see a LIVE MUSICAL.

Yellow pins on the AQI map AND a famous arrest with cheer Jazz bassoon - G.Gershwin - Summertime

I WILL look up where Orel is. The Orel civic orchestra. Listen all the way to the end. They got the clap, this thing Russian audiences to where they all clap in time not the ripply all over the place thing most US audiences do. 7.1 hours of sleep.  Going back to bed is awesome. And I get to talk to my Dr. about more tests and what we hope to learn. I do NOT want a famous mugshot on a shirt. MAYBE I would want a mug with the face if the face turned some color when the much is filled with hot or cold liquid. But here is jazz from Orel, Russia in appreciation of dueling YouTube headlines about Putin and mob behavior as a timeline cleanse from ....

Raucous laughter: Meet the Laughing Kookaburra and other not really laughing matters

Image
3.5 hours of sleep Raucous bird sounds exactly on point both for sleep disruptions due to colonoscopy prep and impending arrest of the former President.

Because we need laughter: Kookaburras Laughing

Image
Kookabura sits on the old gum tree...laugh Kookabura, laugh 5.0 hours of sleep. Between drama in the US and drama in Russia maybe that is enough said for now.

Bach persists, even when performed on the Contraforte: Cello Suite 2

Image
Some people pray to start the day. Others practice a movement from a Bach cello suite on the contraforte. 4.3 hours of sleep And STILL not a slam-dunk to be ready for an 11 am telemedicine appointment. And it's not like switching off my telenovela meets national and international media streams exactly brings relief. At least cat videos sooth without bringing on TOO MUCH unbearable longing.

What? No mass shooting? Eine kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart for Bassoon Quintet | SHEET MUSIC

Image
5.7 hours of blessed SLEEP. No gunshots for me to hear / not hear at 4:30 am. Other than that quest for fiberless carbs makes me remember that also not overdoing gluten is a good idea. AND it turns out I will be able to be satisfactorily nourished in spite of the fact that I was kind of on edge about that. Treating myself to a bottle of good fruit juice is one step on the road. And will I find the words to say what needs to be said to...?

Bassoon music to cheer the soul: Paul Hindemith – Sonate pour Basson et Piano

Image
4.1 hours of sleep, COUNTING the go back to bed segment. Why? Conscious brain did not register the mass shooting about 4:30 am around the corner from me, but nerves dead. 9 people shot. 3 dead. 6 in the hospital but expected to recover. 5 guns dropped at the scene. I have learned this over the day. I certainly did not know it when I was trying to go back to sleep. Other than that colonoscopy on Thursday so lay in enough low fiber carbs for an expedition in the wilderness. Cross fingers the ride arranged will stay arranged. Too much smoke to go visit Mom and walking around Amazon Fresh for exercise leaves something to be desired.

For a Saturday Rhapsody in Blue (Bassoon Sextet)

5.2 hours of sleep. Clean hair. Excursion to get mail and big sigh because bye bye Hai Tai market. Fun conversion with someone from the smart blind people zoom

REd cabbage and beet chips with YOU'RE BACK, JACK, YOU DID IT AGAIN - Founders Sing Parody on the side.

Image
Language alert: skip the video if a few vulgarities will be too much. 6.1 hours of sleep Random meditations: Amazon boxes and environmental impact red cabbage, beet chips and a colonoscopy next week. We interrupt today's news junkie Youtube binge watch to laugh very hard about one of the right wing channels referring to Kermit the Frog and ranting about "little felt communists." Lord have mercy!

Hello America. We need to talk. Remy Try That in a Large Town (Jason Aldean parody)

6.8 glorious badly needed hours of sleep. And my brain is full of about average after-event tsurris but partner in non-Zoom wants a whole day off. Hence time for libertarian take on culture war meme. Yesterday's live event was for me an exercise in Stone Soup.  Stay tuned for details.

Distractions from a war and music from last century Shostakovich 8 BPO Bassoon

1-2 hours in the chair but none in bed because by the time I was ready to go to bed I would have overslept my commitment.

Because the only thing better than Nine or Eleven Contrabassoons is TWELVE double bassoons

Image
4.8 hours of sleep. Not enough but the quarterly transpo meeting was definitely worth it. The other meeting of note: OF COURSE a certain convention will be in FL one year and in TX next year and OF COURSE blind people are diverse but there were some meaningful comments from board members So here I am doing the deadlines focus the mind thing for tomorrow. And the computer says it's 82 degrees outside and I have not had too much time to look at indictment silliness though I am relieved that BITS of sanity are also visible....

Tryna Cool off: The Polar Express (Bassoon Quintet)

Image
5.8 hours of sleep.  75 degrees in my apartment at 9:00 am is TOO MUCH. I do not CARE how hot it is elsewhere. Interestingly, once I showered and got out into the wind and onto my bus, things were much better even when the bus driver blithely drove past my stop and I had to backtrack. Score one for the new section of Fred Hutch. Easy to deal with street crossing. Easy to navigate once I am in the front door. And tonight the first in-person meeting of the ACCESS Paratransit Advisory Board in a LONG time. And a tour of one of the bus bases... Plus the first time I cracked my email when I got home, INDICTMENTS dropped. Rest of the summer will be WAY interesting!

Sunday belongs to God so ....Egil Hovland Agnus Dei for Bassoon and Choir Op.167

6.4 hours of sleep. MUCH needed. It helps to go to bed at a decent hour. Too much Zoom

Chopping celery

Image
Celery for a change of visuals 5.2 hours of sleep not counting falling asleep in the chair. The world always needs more celery pics. I have decided that chopped celery freezes fine. Mostly I am going to cook with it but it defrosted fine with some dried cranberries recently that I was putting in some homemade spicy salmon spread. Anyway it was a day of chopping celery and green pepper and reflecting on bounty even if EVERY SINGLE Can in a case of pineapple juice I bought from Amazon has dents in it.

World Domination with bassoons Weber Bassoon Concerto 200th anniversary performance, London

Image
4.2 hours of sleep.  Too many videos. Other than that, I want a couple T-shirts that say on front AND back, in VERY large HI VIS letters, PLEASE TELL ME YOUR NAME. That would solve lots of problems.

Cool group name and a song

Image
¿ Y cómo es él? Los Jornaleros Del Norte(Video Oficial) 3.1 hours of sleep. Shucks. If I have no cash and the ATM network at the gas station, I had to forego something nutritionally appalling in favor of the sensible food I brought in my bag. Sigh.

Different site but more from the Farting Bedpost genre Nine double bassoons

6.4 hours of sleep. After powering through SIX loads of laundry including the blanket on my bed that kitty stopped dripping on when she got too sick to wander much from her hangout on the table. ALL the machines were working. I only had to share the laundry room intermittently and it all worked as far as washer and dryer sequencing except WTH happened to a bunch of socks? Read the background on the Youtube site for commentary on this performance.

Some FUN: Ciranda das sete notas, W. 325

6.0 hours of sleep. Thinking gratefully of Amazon prime even if I have to kepp telling new drivers how to find the right entrance to my building. Amazon instituted more of a delivery fee than I want to pay unless one makes huge unreasonable orders. However REGULAR Amazon warehouse with Prime is awesome for delivery for some kinds of non-perishables. Coincidentally, fighting inflation by substituting cheaper products. Ain't life grand!

My mother is not charmed by Harry Potter

Image
6.4 hours of sleep.  I still need more. I also need to read scan results and then write up questions for followup with doctor. LUCKY ME because connectivity and knowing how to use it. Oh, and it's still a BLEEPING WAR even if only 20 people show up for one of the strands of international Sunday worship. PS the title is true. One of mom's neighbors tried to interest Mom in Harry Potter. Mom is approximately as impressed (NOT) as I am .

Anecdote. Referencing recent earworm.

5.8 hours of sleep. Much needed. Still had trouble being ready for Meetup but here we are. Need to get rid of extra cat carriers and some other paraphrenalia.

Blue Angels Time

Yup. That Cat departed to other realms yesterday. No more kitty to collide with at home. Also no more kitty to commiserate with about the #BlueAngels roars. Mleah. https://t.co/mwrl2PtpQn — Amb. Thwack Vaxxed & Masked (@AmbassadorThwa1) August 3, 2023 Well-deserved snark about the #BlueAngels 5.1 hours of sleep not counting time in chair. REALLY good to get out and exercise yesterday. Plus bus encounter and request for directions led me to a party to invite myself to and the wonderful opportunity to visit the Lighthouse scent garden.

Cat minus 1 day.

This is the Queen of Spades signing off. I am outta here starting yesterday. The human and I have a deal. I still need her to hold it together and can't handle ordinary crying and moping never mind yesterday. Body couldn't take any more. #cats #CatsOfX #CatsOfTwitter pic.twitter.com/h440tSWNhn — Dorene Cornwell (@DoreneFC) August 3, 2023 6.1 hours of sleep are HUGE I started to do things like empty the litter box and realize I have too many cat carriers and SHOULD donate some of them to the vet. And there is more to clean and ... I still neglected a bunch of schedule items BUT I went and fetched mail AND got paid for lots of things. And it was a beautiful day to be out and I got invited to a smart blind person potluck and found ingredients at home that I can turn into suitable food.

The cat and I went to the vet. The cat didn't come back.

Image
2.9 hours of sleep. A very kind cab driver who did not let matters of culture and creatures get in the way of helping. The last #Caturday photo op The vet said kitty was 18. I knew she was at least 16. She had the same vet from spaying to goodbye.      The vet said hundreds of dollars of tests and some daily meds might have helped.   Kitty was having trouble jumping where she wanted to. She also seemingly forgot to retract her claws when I needed to put her down. But I kept the cat carrier. I will donate another one, but this one has carried two cats so it has HISTORY. Now I will go home and not find kitty and ....

A cat picture and an appointment with regular vet tomorrow

My cat who does not actually have blue eyes 5 hours of sleep not counting nodding off earlier. Cat is still drinking and up and around. She wanted to travel further down the hall than usual when I let her out of the apartment. It is what it is, with LOTS of gratitude for pandemic survival help.
