Laundry, exercise, sleep

How to count: almost six hours counting the first spell in bed, going back to bed amd the before bedtime nap in the chair. Party. Laundry is good exercise and NEW MACHINES are such a glorious experience. Still have not dealt with the buttons issue. Maybe just put dots on... Check with other neighbors. Also of note: NO snacking after chocolate frozen gelatto bar for dessert. TWO crossword puzzles but it's early in the week so the regular one was easy and the second one from archives not terrible. Mom's first phone call got interrupted. Toddler wandered in and of course wanted to visit cat. Cat was growling and ..  Toddler does not really understand much English yet. Like THE KITTY DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY! Hopefully when he gets a little bigger he will be able to stand still and see if she will come to him.

Limited progress on the cat food front

SIX WHOLE HOURS of sleep. NO snacking or alcohol before bed. Bus to Walgreens. Found Zinc, popcorn, tuna packets, kahlua. No expectation of cat food. Cat is coping with substitute brand. Maybe I will just switch. Or plot bus route to TJ on Queen Ann. The Monday NYT puzzle is usually embarrasingly easy so to bed at a reasonable hour. Then back to bed for two more hours. Not really enough exercise in spite of walking around Walgreens and a bit of walk to from bus. Sigh. Probably as much fun as I should try to have right now.  RElaxing to look at FGC workshop schedule. Ones I want are either full or on July 4 when I am already booked. Still lots of ways to cure ourselves of Racism but I kind of feel called to stay more local for that.

Oh and Happy Pride

About 4 hours of sleep again. Sigh. (This post written while trying to center and worship. If one is not present with video on but is present in the Zoom and even with an avatar, does that count?) (Part of this post also written with bad eyes and no screen reader. Excruciating detail about what that means available upon request.) (Further blindness tourism available about one of peculiarities of Zoom plus screen reader. I can move finger around on my iPad. It would be yucky gross weird to physically stick fingers in people's eyes but if I tap on their faces on the screen, the screen reader tells me who Zoom thinks they are. Very cool. No back to sleep matters. Not really a good schedule option. In the category of blindness tourism: one email list is full of info about prosthetic eyes. Just Wow. Another info stream: blind parents and transportation issues: car seats and Uber and climate change and ... In the category of Blindness tourism and shit people with worse visi

Batt'ry Low

Image
SSomewhere below 4 hours. I  do not want tknow how far below. Yes there was a crossword puzzle involved. No it did notget finished. Also invovled late-night snack. Food prep rampage made some more lentil brownies, the coconutty ones. The lentils did not get cooked long enough or mashed well enough but they are very chocolatey and I am happy for that. Also gingerly tracking some headachey moments and a kind of tiredness that eases when I get up and move for example while making the lentil brownies mentioned above. But I do not like having to think about symptoms.... I need to wash more dishes and do laundry. Moment from weekly @DoreneFC #Caturday post on Twitter: Read the Description in the adjacent text Text of tweet something like "Someone has to handle the sleeping around here. The human is useless. She blames #PandemicBrain. And photo alt text: Evidence that the Queen of Spades is asleep under the purple blanket. And while we are on the subject of recurri

Blindness Tourism among other highlights of the day

Somewhere over 4 hours of sleep. There was a crossword puzzle involved. Also almonds and rice cake late in the evening. But first there was a VISIT WITH MOM. Documented elsewhere. Battery low so I did not read much but I fell asleep anyway. The blindness tourism: has to do with moving the knot that holds the bungee cord in the right tension in the white cane and then redoing the twist-tie that holds the knot in place. More lurid detail available upon request.

Decadent sleep in daylight

Achieved somewhere close to SIX HOURS of sleep. Woot. This meant going back to bed around 7 after feeding cat, talking to sister, and eating porridge and smoked salmon and cottage cheese. Also drinking tea. And I was still able to go back to sleep in spite of or maybe because of full sun. Go figure. There was a crossword puzzle involved too. It is SO soothing to get through one. Forget about streaks though. I use check puzzle a lot. It helps. I am still thinking about navigation and screen reader accessibility. But maybe i will download a friend's accessible scrabble game and see how that goes before I am the least bit tempted to think about coding. I am not the only person I know with pandemic brain, as in not greqat ability to focus on reading even though listening to radio and reading Twitter seem to fill brain. Last night was bible study too. Stuff about sheep without a shepherd, sheep running every which way when scared and flocks and  what a shepherd learned about pastu

Never mind the coke at 6 pm

Somewhere past 4 hours. Dinner was taco Time PICK UP at door not at drive through! Oh happy Day! Meal with mexifries, coke, burrito. Usually I am more nutritionally responsible and just buy burrito and soup  but I went for the meal. Sleep was none the worse for tthe caffeine and I wanted NOTHING else the rest of the evening. Besides walk to taco time, walked the breezeway way late. Then, Yes, there was a crossword puzzle involved. And the mobile culture book is not the most soothing thing in the world. Going back to bed would not have been terrible but instead I walked to pharmacy to deal with blood pressure pill shortfall. I wonder if there was some pandemic supply chain issue when I filled it previously. Also amused at all the weird nutritional supplments on sale table. No zinc but plenty of other weird stuff. Trying to decide whether to be worried about sore forehead just above right eye.

Smokey and Dusty

About 4.5 hours of sleep counting some falling asleep around the edges. Going back to bed after breakfast would have been nice but I got sucked into some Twitter and then a webinar about people with disabilities and the election. I was morbidly curious what the Orange foolius campaign has to say about people with disabilities but I wound up not even watching that part. Maybe there will be a link for that session. Maybe I will just decide I can live without it. Random other comments. Went to pharmacy and QFC after supper. Did not go in time for the “civic event” (metro euphemism for neighborhood protest nearby. I would not mind knowing more details of protest but if that does not show up in the moments when I happen to be looking at Twitter, oh well. Picked up a couple things at the pharmacy and stopped again at QFC. Fewer shoppers than earlier in the day but the ones who were there and the staff: more of them are less careful than during the day. Pharmacy refilled

Monday Monday

Over SIX HOURS! The secrets: A walk around suppertime. Pharmacy closed. Sigh. But QFC and chicken for supper and fruit juice and ... No snacks after that. Finished crossword puzzle early. Slept from 1:30 to almost 6 . Went back to bed after 7:30 and slept until almost 10 The cellphones and resistance book was a better idea than bedtime twitter about yesterday's shooting in the CHOP. As an old protestor, I think: --shutting down the freeway is getting boring. --Stoned dude talking about his own firearm and trying to sound coherent about the back of the march is more dystopian than I like. --The defund the police / harm reduction ideas need some fiscal and policy wonkiness, not usually cultivated while camping out and having weird dance about authorities, Fire Dept, securing crime scenes. Or i am just old. Oh, and every dang thang in my email inbox is morphing into at least 3 things.

Chocolate

Close to 5 hours counting back to bed to rest after breakfast. meditations available about "Dressing for church" as a GREAT excuse to procrastinate about some needed household chores. Also shoes, putting on compression socks, joyously colorful compression socks. And relatives making excuses for not visiting family instead of thinking about ways to do it outside. See what RantWoman can engineer to adjust.

Corn salsa turned to chowder

Hah. Made it to about 5.5 hours of sleep counting going back to bed. Also: 1. Deaf-Blind neighbor came over and wanted me to call his brother about an ongoing fixation. Mostly I learned that brother who has health concerns does not want to come to our building because of sign about someone having virus. Yeah. So wear a mask like the rest of us do. Or meet your brother outside. There is an awesome park really close. I will see if I can explain options to neighbor. But he seemed calmer after we exchanged notes. 2. Made really awesome corn chowder out of a container of corn salsa that came to me via a friend's habit of end of the day food bank scavenging. She has the problem of taking a LOT of something just because it is there. I do not mind sporadic contributions to larder especially since she brings things my neighbors would not eat anyway. Chowder involved mixing in a container of santa fe style soup. Great. I just ate too late at night. 3. I did though manage to go to bed

Food. Exercise

4.5 hours of sleep. Going back to bed theoretically would have been possible but after breakfast I was too wide awake and I had a phone call from my sister and needed a shower before a conference call at 11. Just to give some idea of time frames. Yes. There were crossword puzzles involved. Yes there was desire to write, but no writing did not happen.

Veggies and microwave

4.5 hours, AGAIN. It's SUMMER, what can I say? Would life be better if RantWoman took drugs and slept longer? RantWoman was finding herself intrigued by the aroma of weed coming through her window. As in RantWoman considers it good weed when the aroma is almost pleasant. RantWoman knows next to nothing about weed varieties so take that comment FWIW. Going back to bed would have been more feasible today than yesterday but ... Before bedtime was visit from friend who always comes bringing mixed blessings of food bank world: RantWoman mostly does not interact with food banks. For now, RantWoman is okay even sometimes overabundant about food. RantWoman does pay attention: right now somewhat random increments of food and prepared meals are getting dropped off  at unpredictable intervals in the lobby. If things like cans of garbanzo beans and bags of lentils linger on the table more than 24 hours, RantWomn figures people have gotten what they will eat and the leftovers are fair gam

Blame the tea?

4.5 hours of sleep. No going back to bed turned out not to be feasible but phone calls got needed medical thing and required pre event COVID test all scheduled. This total despite doing the NYT crossword puzzle early, getting to bed earlier than average, having enough of the book to fall asleep even though the talking book reader bleated out "batt'ry low" when turned on, and fully intending to sleep longer. Okay so the morning tea got drunk about 9 pm AND there was snacking after the trip to Taco Time and Bartells. So maybe food had something to do with things. Maybe but sometimes its impact is more obvious. Anyway, today to ensure a more satisfactory level of exercise, I made TWO pots of things and did the dishes. On the menu the porridge of the week with the scavenged out of date milk and steel cut oats and NUTRITIONAL yeast which I had been missing before the trip to the CO-op. Also a brown rice chicken basil mushroom brew that made about 6 servings counting lunc

What is Pickles doing in the sleep blog? Wait for it.

Image
About 4 hours. Yes there was a crossword puzzle involved along with the breezeway half hour walk but starting at 10 pm. . And some sensible brain freeze to deter too much email. Also a 9:00 Zoom meeting and another one at 9:30 so by the time breakfast and shower needed to fit in, no time to go back to bed. Happy Tuesday. Here is Pickles Shhh. Don;t tell him RantWoman has SOMETIMES been known to hold Meeting for worship with attention to sleeping, but even in the age of Zoom RantWoman does not attend anything in her PJ's. RantWoman has too much of a demented imagination...

Masks, and senility?

Sleep: 6+ hours in one 4-hour block and the luxury of going back to bed for two hours. Now if I could achieve that consistently. I was going to go visit #CHAZ / #CHOP last night but the stars, buses, and grocery realities did not align. Worst hiccup: I wanted cat food at the capital hill Trader Joes. Not to be so come home and briefly rage tweet. Random notes germane to the title: I discovered someone sent me two LOVELY sewn masks with elastic ear catches instead of cumberson ties. The envelope got mangled and I do not even know who to thank. Senility is just this weird thing where words come and go. I cannot tell whether it is worse than average for my age but I find it disconcerting. Now back to pandemania.

Prayer warriors

4 plus hours of sleep and the crossword puzzle kind of half done and probably will not get done any further. I have two recurring dreams. One is a weird math dream with symbols I do not recognize and that are just shy of some important truth. I have not had that one in awhile. The other I had a couple nights ago about needing to take some islamic history in the former SU course to graduate from college.I realize that could be linked to two different relationships but it feels like that is not the case. THe anxiety is more about just not going to class and needing to write a paper really fast. Guess I should think about circumstances when the dream recurs. Also had a dream that involved something vague about COVID and a cockroach trying to crawl out of some kind of pipette. The roach did not succeed. Making a list of things I am doing because BlackLivesMatter  even if I am going out to protests way less than in the past. Preach it sister about praying across differences. Holy c

Ghost Town

Somewhere close to 6 hours of sleep including more than 2 hours in chair after excursion downtown 3 hours in bed from 3-6 two more hours after breakfast Yes I know, the numbers ... 6... so the numbers are squishy. Excursion downtown was because of firemen in lobby and more elevator and I opted just to make the cat wait, not walk the stairs right then and instead go out to forage for food. Essential trip to whichever food destination is served by the first bus that comes by. Plus I needed tapioca and there are good takeout options at Uwajimaya Somewhere in here I think I did NOT work in a full NYT crossword puzzle. Excursion downtown sort of hit the minimum daily walking but it was a drag in several ways. Uwajimaya is closing at 8. I think that is earlier since the protest began. Lots of things in the ID have windows boarded up with particle board. Some stores such as the 4th and Jackson bartells are open but with boarded up windows. #CHAZ on Capital Hill is, by all ac

Happy 60th anniversary RantParents

The sleep: almost 6 hours! 4 by going to bed about 1, getting up at 5 2 more by going back to bed before 7. Body was tired after all the walking yesterday. Body was glad to have skipped the thought of ordering pizza late. Mind has LOTS of thoughts spilling out. And happy anniversary RantParents.

Write this before it's time to go to bed again.

Made it past 5 hours including NAP in mid-Afternoon.  For exercise after bible study I went to grocery outlet. Dove gelato bars and various other treats at 10 pm did not help about sleep. Yes there also was another crossword puzzle involved. This time I did decide that the puzzle was not going to get solved in my sleep deprived state and go to bed. But at least I retrieved my mop from my balcony. If I dry it in my apt, I get mold issues. If I leave it out when staff is going by it disappears. New mop with clear sign saying where it belongs but I still kept it in overnight. I absorb SO MUCH of my talking book in 5 minute at a time fall asleep dribbles too. No going back to bed in the AM because of --drum roll please--a routine eyes have not fallen out of head no big changes but increments on the crappiness front--eye appointment. Can't do that by zoom. Not sure dr was charmed by chatter about news via Twitter that at least 10 people across country have lost eyes because of

Was there a crossword puzzle involved?

Somewhere close to 5 hours. Yes there was a crossword puzzle involved. But 30 minutes walking the breezeway and less than one sleep button, 15 min of the book. And no snacking. Also many phone laughs with a friend who lives on the W side of capital hill facing the freeway about all night choppers, unwholesome interest in ... , and housekeeping or lack thereof. And despite evening good intentions, the topographical floor grime did not get attacked until morning. Also forget sourdough. My theme food is lentil brownies.

Gophers?

Somewhere close to 5 hours of sleep by going back to bed after breakfast. Would life be better if I did more sleeping and spent less time on crossword puzzles? How about more time walking and less time tripping over my own baggage, banging up my face, and then feeling sore and too immobile to do anything but ice my face. The gophers? from another blog post. Muddling around with demilitarize the police, shopping while black and buying shoes, and a couple other threads that have not made it into blog posts. PS it is BLEEPING disconcerting to hear from a friend of a small demo near where she lives where TWO different cars plowed into the crowd, 3 people wound up going to the hospital and the cops showed up 20 minutes later to take statements. Neighborhood demos seem nice. The vibe at the police precinct is um interesting and...

The Voice of God

Somewhere over 4 hours of sleep. Carbs after the trip to QFC should have been a bad idea but that seemed not to be the issue. There was a crossword puzzle involved. The talking book reader puttered out "Batt'ry low after about 2 minutes but I managed to sleep anyway. The Voice of God was on Twitter, the cops trying to clear around the East precinct. Rest of thoughts about that in another blog.

What day is it? Oh, SUNDAY

4.5 hours of sleep. The Sunday crossword puzzle in slightly over 1.5 hours. And I used reveal puzzle when maybe I whould have slept overnight and solved the last few letters myself. But solving is SUCH a stress reliever.  More morning sleep would not have been terrible but I think the worship sharing about BLM was worth it. And more clarity....

Zoom. Zoom. All the day long

Four hours. Reading the mobile phone culture book. Falling asleep fast enough that the content is barely registering. Fine. Now if i could get to bed earlier AND still blow off anxieties with the crossword puzzle. Easy to get enough fiber. Need to do some shopping but here's hoping I get fridge cleaned out and floor mopped before I add more food beyond what I am already eating my way through. I spent a total of almost 6 hours on zoom today. We went one whole night without tear gas but it seems to be back to pepper spray and flash bangs tonight.

May I please just have a nice wholesome snit fit?

SEVEN HOURS of sleep. Despite both powdered mile mocha and tea comparatively late in the day. AND dark chocolate at midnightBEFORE I tucked into the NYT crossword puzzle.  Sleep 2-6 and 7-10. 10 is too late to be getting up, but.... And we won't even discuss amateur temptation to attempt coding some screen reader / blind person friendly navigation to make crossword puzzle accessibility not just for crazy people like me. Crazy as in willing to spend my precious functioning eyeball time subduing anxieties by wretling the crossword puzzle. Protest in 'hood so I did not try to go anywhere. Also if I go out, I will buy ice cream or donuts or both. Emauil says sebd a screenshot so we can troubleshoot about pasting Zoom link into Meetup. I don't effing want to, but of course... And blogger chatters at my to Try the New Blogger before the olde one goes away. So I feel darned well entitled to a good snit fit. Or maybe a nap. Or some bAskin Robbins... Happy Friday.

Aniother short night

barely 4 hours. Starting at 5 am, after an earlier nap, waiting for the computer to end its nightly freeze. SHOULD HAVE GONE TO BED except it was cathartic to write email. Sending...?. No evening snacking. Not enough walking. Fed the cat before going to sleep. Could have slept longer and should have except the #FlatteningInaccessibility report call was DEFINITELY worth the time and I even got showered before the call. Such is not sleeping and trying to blog all there is to blog about.

Current excuse summer light

Somewhere over 4 hours of sleep counting short naps early in evening. No snacking after dinner which is good. More fell asleep fast while listening to the cell phone and culture book. I should have gone back to bed after the pee and feed the cat thing at 6. But I decided I was hungry and before I knew it....

Porridge at midnight

Sleep: about 4 hours. Got to bed by 2 but did not go back to bed after 6. Got home to find SHOES from online order binge. Same size of Dr. Martens still fits. i LOVE the style but the 1" heel is almost too much. So write a blog post about why online sucks, experiences with retail and ... Evening was no computer after dinner. Just phone and crossword puzzle. Took some time gathering up trash but did not take it out until morning, even after I found a shopping cart. Talking book about social context and mobile phones. So much academentia in the intro that I fell asleep instantly. But I slept well and brain felt engaged but not drowned as from overnight steeping. I do not HAVE to read all the twitter about local protests. If I am going to get triggered about WTO and previous protest resume where rumor control was a good idea, I probably should not. Plus I get to try to mkae change over Twitter.

Monday Monday after brie

Close to 6 hours but 1.5 hours between 1 and 3 , about .5 hours after 3 while tossing and turning with grief and paralyzing rage. Feed cat. Eat breakfast, go back to bed around 5 and sleep until 9 More sleep seems to matter even if not all in bed. All set to go to bed around 1 after a late night snack of popcorn and brie. I think I should have skipped the snack Got up to radio and lots of things to make head explode. So breathe. Write. Focus. I found a grocery cart but will take trash and compost out later.
