Spooks and goblins and a white cane on the train

Image
about 4.5 hours of sleep in bed.  This does not count dozing off during Zoom.  Doing one's highly zoom compatible PT exercise is not enough to keep ...awake.  What's right with this picture? Hover your finger or mouse over the picture to find out. Mostly a good convention.  I need to try to dial back the abrasive ... This afternoon I went to see mom. I broached a topic I had on my mind. I listened to my mom. SOME millenia maybe we will be able to tell each other we have hurt feelings sometime closer to in the moment. Ride home was tricky. For one thing, while waiting for the bus A friend texted that her mother had just died. Friend was already in PA. Talked to friend and her wife tonight. Enough said. As for the small goblins on the train, I now need an elevator speech for something like "Excuse me. I need you and your kid to understand.. white cane ...don't want to walk on. For now just get home before things get too spooky.

Thrills and spills and Roberts Rules wordsmithing by zoom

Four + hours of sleep Cat on shoulder Hair washed and combed in time for session. More importantly, at least brief chat with my sister before shower. Blind people on Zoom so we will not discuss how much besides bare feet did not live up to professional standard. By end of first morning session, as long and no one objects to striped socks coordinated with sweater and polka dot pants and dress shoes, ready for banquet. I am not a spangles person but some people when in person are happy to have banquet occasion to wear spangles.  If we were in person there would be someone selling popcorn and chocolate espresso beans to spectators. Zoom webinar czars are NO DAMN HELP about process. The cat finds proceedings more boring than does the human but is grateful the human has not left home, is available for cuddles, and does not send in intruders to feed her.

Again blind people on Zoom Who cares about body odor?

6 ish hours of sleep! And showered and mostly dressed in time for the 9 am rituals, some of which didn't happen because of technical difficulties. The pledge, the prayer, the national anthem. I think the prayer happened but before I got there. It's annual state blind people convention time. I wound up deciding just to do the first part on phone, braid hair, not hurry  about walking across the slippery breezeway. I have to be on camera for a little bit. I could put on the semi professional black sweater over a recent year convention T-shirt but I may just stick with the GPS coordinates hoodie.  Virtual product demos are actually better than noisy exhibit area and I already see tech I want and prices low enough to feel practical. Next young food delivery vendor rep probably has no idea that a now deceased member of our group was instrumental in a campaign to get co to do braille catalogs. Sounds like maybe the braille catalog has been discontinued. Vendor rep is also into sc

It's blind people on Zoom. Who do you think CARES what anyone wears?

5+ hours of sleep. The plus is about another hour or so in the chair from messing around about a grocery order. Making sure I have fruits and veggies for a weekend of Zoom convention. I fell asleep last night. I finished this morning. I forgot to order bananas but I like to choose them myself anyway. As for sartorial matters, find all the organizational  convention T shirts except the one I want to wear that I might have already thrown in the laundry. We are still community and I thought about the code talkers t-shirt. Finally I settled on one that says Strength in Love and Reverse the Trend, about not building more nuclear weapons. Top it with a grey hoodie that says in total unabased nerd terms "The GPS cooordinates of your mother's vagina at the time of your birth have no bearing on your worth as a human being. Fortunately or unfortunately this crowd is in the "Don't tell us what you are wearing and we will heap scorn on anyone who tries" camp.  And for the si

A back yard in Burien 5 ish hours of sleep. Body would definitely not mind more sleep but is hanging in there more or less. Brain is still having conversations about cheery tomato plants and head needs to hold it together for ... I got dishes washed and trash / compost taken out last night. AND for better or worse, I woke up in time for shower and considerable hand laundry effort before the scheduled water shutoff and the first two of now SIX scheduled Zooms. I am thrilled for the late arrival of the last invitation because I can forward it to someone I greatly admire and would love to be in the same Zoom space with.. Getting dressed and doing morning stretches while Zooming is kind of a surreal experience but my body is so much happier after I do the stretches even though it meant I did not unmute to say something about ouch assumptions while wondering around Jewish law and ideas about stewardship and ownership. Sometimes I think it is okay to just hold in the Light and listen and NOT

First deal with the comparatively benign laundry situation.

Somewhere towards 5 hours of sleep. The comparatively benign laundry situation involves quarters, debit cards, druggie miscreants, and a WTF email that came in last night and needs an audience that honors ongoing dialogue about communications. Did I mention that reply needs to be more polite than was going to happen last night. The less benign laundry plus email situation involves my neighbor and her mother aka grandma and great grandma of toddler. It needed two sets of email, one from me and neighbor with photos of damage wrought by miscreant (known or unknown?) and a separate one to a slightly different addressee list about not necessarily believing neighbor about some elements of situation. A thank you reply for the latter included the phrase "help build a case."  And observing some patterns about when toddler fusses.... Other than that I am still rattled about reports of schoolbus run amok in the neighborhood today.  Plenty of ways to be scattered with other anxieties and

As if the Bomb cyclone isn't enough: 6 Mysteries Geologists Can’t Explain — Yet!

Image
Almost 6 hours of sleep. Not sure why my body decided it needed lots of spasms before sleep. New strengthening PT exercises? Too much dairy and gluten? The bomb cyclone. Something else. Still trying to write up what was so nice about yesterday's worship with play exercise. I would have gone back to bed except for the 89 am zoom. Shower, professionally dressed and the dishes and compost have to wait. Hello Monday!

Inspiration?

Image
5 hours of sleep A lot of leaves in the parking lot If one goes to bed an hour earlier than usual AND then tosses and turns....I got up for 1/2 hour and went back to bed after I woke up from falling asleep in the chair.  Inspiration IS soothing and sleep was a better idea than seeing whether openings would come from sleep deprivation.

Make Porridge the dishes can wait.

Almost 7 hours of sleep. If looking at needed chores makes one fall asleep in a chair, just go back to bed! Wake up refreshed and realize if the refrigerator is working poorly and I still have not gotten around to filing a work order. (Ugh) the thing to do with unexpected milk is to make porridge and freeze it in single serving packages. The refrigerator and the careful tending of drainage remind me of an aging building. On the up side, my apartment is bigger than i would have anyplace else and so is the kitchen. And here since I am having fun embedding tweets is the weekly #caturday tweet They're promising us a bomb cyclone off the coast. So far we are enjoying the big tree in the slowly unrolling dawn. #wawx #CatsOfTwitter #Caturday pic.twitter.com/of8FGf48dt — Dorene Cornwell (@DoreneFC) October 23, 2021

Bibimbap for breakfast and Happy #275th Birthday Princeton

Image
5 hours of sleep. Masked with hi vis jacket  The social high of a really fun virtual fundraiser and a good committee meeting SHOULD not have kept me up especially since my body found even simple strengthening exercises really tiring albeit also really helpful. But here's a nice social media selfie for the birthday party. Oops. Almost forgot the breakfast menu: Disability Rights WA had an aweom virtual fundraise and a way to order delivery from a Korean restaurant. Some my fault communications mixups meant it was better to save the delivery for breakfast. Half the reason I want to go out to eat is the presentation and this is not the first time I have found assembling my own meal challenging. But if that is the worst problem of my day while a lot of other people are struggling in pandemia./...

No Halloween Themed Sugar

Image
Holding steady at 5+ hours of sleep.  I got sucked into a radio show about Greenham common, peculiarly soothing and then hoped to add a trip to pharmact to pick up eyedrops to the day's trip chaining. But no. And as of today's PT appoint MORE exercises I can do while zooming. New Crank radio and contents of box Other than that, who knew supply chain disruptions can be good for your? No candy corn on the shelves means I will just have to get by one lentil brownies, as in protein, fiber and A LOT less sugar.  And just for grins, in honor of #shakeout2021 I will try to make time to look up so accessible directions for my new crank radio because i don't want to be flailing with acres of tiny print in the middle of a disaster

Family Owwwwws

Somewhere between 4 and 6 hours of sleep depending on how once counts sleeping in chairs.  It's my brother's birthday. The family owwws part has to do with another conversation on parallel parents needing to forgive themselves themes. And FINALLY that family has made the right connections. And today's disability themed webinar is people talking in very real terms about things that matter.

I mess with tech therefore I am

Image
5.5 ish hours of sleep. Some of it in my chair. Transit tunnel SB platform No one realizes the hoodie looking thing is my bathrobe for the first zoom of the day. I managed to get dressed in time for the call to debrief from the first call.  Chocolate late at night is probably not preferable. I need to buy more fruit or make more carrot cake oatmeal cookies I guess. GOOD meeting today but tasks feel overwhelming. Lots of cheerleading others to help get comfortable with their tech and some other mess with tech thread that has now settled into the rest of the day's tangle. Happy Tuesday And my sister's last be in the hospital during COVID but not with COVID involved sepsis as well as pneumonia. I don't even want to think about whether my head should explode about communications in her household.

Sleep and no socks washed

Six hours of sleep because I was able to go back to bed. It feels almost self-indulgent to have LOTS of pairs of compression socks so it's not a super calamity if I don't get the dirty pairs washed super often.

Food is self-care, right

Image
4.5 hours of sleep. Okay so the waffle emoji that went to my morning text buddies was too weird. Oh Well And just in case, a SCOOTER. One of my fave walkability gripes. How to take up the whole sidewalk  with 1 badly parked scooter  Yep the extra 1/2 hour to finish the crossword puzzle was worth it, never mind also time to wash and refill the water for the CPAP. And baking the chicken that had been thawing a few days in the malfunctioning fridge was a good idea. I needed a walk and some blind person wayfinding more than I needed worship indoors. But now I am 0 for 2 about asking to be held in the Light about drama in my building. At least two non-english speaking households have entanglements who SHOULD NOT BE allowed into the building. So time for eyes and ears MAYBE to finesse support for that. Maybe. .

Introducing the Baroque Contrabassoon

Image
5.5 hours of sleep. Finished the crossword last night. Cat was howling or I would have slept longer. I got hair washed AND cat box changed. I want to get on with reading the dang bylaws but we get COVID updates and convention muddle. Too many Zoom contortions. I should not be trying to be in too many zooms at once. So for diversion have some more contrabassoon esoterica.

The BaroqueContrabassoon vid can wait. Today it's the New Pedestrian Bridge

Image
Close to 6 hours of sleep partly because I went back to bed after breakfast. What did I get done in the morning besides a shower and tweeting about #WhiteCaneDay? The John Lewis pedestrian bridge, looking east Afternoon was light rail themed. First meet a young journalist to talk about at-grade light rail crossings. I am not crazy about them but so far they are manageable and the reason I don't go to the Sodo station very often has to do with both crappy sidewalks in the area and no must-visit destinations than with the crossings. Next, first visit to the Northgate station. It took some fogging around to find the elevator and I decided to do the, um, INTERESTING walk on the pedestrian bridge over the freeway. East of the freeway the bridge has no guard rails only some kind of net fencing which I kind of assume has to be stronger that it looks at first terrifying glance. The freeway is REALLY LOUD but the west end of the bridge is nice. Probably next time I will just find the bus c

5+ hours of sleep. The Queen of Spades grabbing some cuddle on the human time I really needed either go to bed earlier or go back to bed but neither happened. Instead two hours of Zoom helping craft a mission and vision statement.  Now to the REST of the day's tasks. Body is achy. Neck exercises are in yellow not sure why body is behaving this way zone.

Because Bassoon Reed Esoterica is awesome bedtime listening: Introducing Beethoven's Contrabassoon

Image
5 ish hours of sleep. Late evening trip for groceries and cold pizza slice with a lot of basil. Exercise and seeign otehr humans at least I did not go back to bed when I woke up but then I dozed in chair until time for early bible study. Maybe I should not even have tried to be at the computer lab. Well excep, oh calamity, no actual haunted Basson performances on Google. But learn about The Contrabassoon.!

Northern Lights all the way to Lynnwood?

Image
6 ish hours of sleep. I could definitely sleep more. Plus body is achy. Why are simple neck stretches so tiring? For my friends in Lynnwood who want to see Northern Lights NOAA Aurora Forecast  Also my eyes itch and I have an itchy spot on my back and probably as long as ecare exists I should document for the dr who might care even though I don't think I need to do anything except note the phenomena. Nothing like acquiring a label that basically means "here's a bunch of research articles and here's a bunch of different things that might happen but we really don't know except now you have this label. Getting out of the apartment today was uneventful. Yesterday the janitor was mopping the floor and the fire alarm started going off just about the time I stepped out into the hallways. Use the nearest stairs because the elevator won't be working. Avoid the wet floor. Also appreciate that no one is sleeping in the stairwell. Oh happy day. . And my sister is in hospit

You sounded intelligent and articulate in Spanish so my committee NEEDS you.

Somewhere sort of 6ish hours of sleep but some in the chair. The Queen of Spades staring out the window at night WHY did I wake up just before 4? Should I blame the cat? Luckily I went back to bed and slept well! The morning involved lots of turning ingredients into food. More lentil brownies AND carrot cardomom oatmeal cookies.   New cookie recipe. I need to tweak it but I love the flavors. Oh, and the title? Stay tuned

Floor triumph!

4 plus hours of sleep. Yesterday's main triumph: CLEAN FLOOR. I am not even going to check whether I already celebrated. Refrigerator and CPAP issues: need to DEAL WITH.

Clean laundry AND much more boring kitchen floor topography

6 ish hours of sleep 5 loads of clean laundry last night. Not everything that could use laundering but the rest will keep  And as long as I don't sell my last roll of quarters to my neighbor, enough quarters to do this again in a few weeks. Fun times Laundry room was interesting. I had the whole place to myself until almost the end. Then this very birdlike non-verbal neighbor came in. I am not sure what she wanted to wash but it had a really interesting sweet smell. I am embarrassed that I don't know this neighbor's name. She has lived at Center Park the whole time I have. She is short and very thin. I see her sometimes when I am shopping later at night at QFC. I am glad the store staff do not speak disrespectfully when talking about her to each other. I do not know whether she signs. I hope I did not frighten her, At one point I started to watch a video on my phone. The sound was really loud and she left and came back when I was almost done foling my last load. Communicati

Cat carrier? Anyone need a cat carrier

Image
Not quite 6 hours of sleep. Yesterday's sun and blue sky and cloud scape In my ongoing dialogue about grocery delivery services, I should not schedule without planning to be awake. Today it worked. I feel lucky. The other knock on the door was from deaf blind neighbor and his brother. Neighbor is moving to assisted living specifically for deaf and deaf-blind. In Gresham OR. Neighbor offered me two cat carriers. I already have two. I told him thank you and suggested leaving in elevator ready for adoption. Next week I need to deal with some CPAP stuff. More appointments. A friend was texting about her eye dr. Appointments. She gets to enjoy the same eyeball torments I do. So happy Friday all

Exercises to Zoom to

Image
6 ish hours of sleep. The floor. I HAVE to deal with the floor  but today was email bureaucracies time instead. Today was PT. I almost didn't go. Last time the person I worked with was latino but kind of brusque. The exercises were helping in spite of only doing 3 rounds of 2 set of 10 reps instead of the recommended 5 rounds of 2 sets of 15 reps. Plus last week wound up being too much so I cancelled. But this week I didn't get around to cancelling. So I went. Completely different experience. jovial white guy who laughed at my sense of humor. He wasn't terrified when I said I am fine but I can do cranky really fast if needed. He was forgiving about the number of reps but explained why more times / day is good if I can do them. They are nexk exercises to deal wtih rotator cuff issues. And I can do them while Zooming! Good for two weeks until next visit. Also REALLY Awesom to be able to read whole visit writeups in ECare Other than that, quarters anyone? I thought it was only

Excellent Sleep Hygiene? Rewiring the Anxious Brain OR revisiting radio interview with the last surviving Nuremberg prosecutor

Image
Despite the above-described bedtime media diet, I achieved almost 7 hours of sleep.  Much as I love the people at 8 am bible study, I think sleep is going to have to take precedence. I couldn't find the link to join my usual first thing Weds tech Zoom but apparently my quest for world domination in the realm of accessible prescription labelling needed to take precedence anyway and I hit another bimonthly zoom. An interesting video and Youtube will take you to more of same

New Sweaters!

Somewhere over5.5 hours of sleep but too much in chair instead of in bed.  And going back to bed didn't happen A VERY productive phone call to a needed bureaucracy did happen. Trip to mailbox yielded new clothing: two sweaters and two blouses. Say all you want about thrift stories but for my body and eyes, it's just more efficient to get it right by mail order No matter how nice it is to be out in the world though bus excursions to fetch packages do not count as near enough exercise to help as much as needed about sleep issues.

Stretches Matter

Image
six plus hours of sleep. Now the trick would be: --do that consistently without succumbing to an Okay let's stay up late reflex --Maybe upping the total to 8 hours. Tree vs sidewalk Also yesterday was LOTS of walking but not enough of my regular stretches. Today stretches really helped. No idea why I am sneezy but it's not COVID because taste is still normal. Cooler night temps are nice but for various reasons durign the day is harder. Right now I am very happy to have one of my friend N's wonderful crocheted scarves, surprisingly warming despite the porous pattern One Last thing: I love trees. I don't love tree interactions with sidewalks. Surely there are some engineers somewhere who have ideas.... Happy Monday all

Sunday Sunday

4 hours of sleep. More would definitely be better but journey on Light Rail day 2 beckoned.  Wondering what seeded the uptick in readers. Tempting to think of what to do to make it last One of my favorite ways to impose order on my psyche even though listening too much to all the words is not good. Now if I could make myself go to bed after getting calmed down Compline Observing the feast of St Michael and all angels: video Compline Underground Compline Order of Service The other poing of Compline in Pandemia: they are all signing TOGETHER indoors. Daring? Some would say yes.

Get help?

5 ish hours of sleep. Going to bed earlier would have been good except email catharsis. A response, any response, is good even if the response is "get help" i have all the therapy I can deal with and september is still a weird month. hold in the light  and wonder whether the september cycles are seof-reinforcing. But enough and maybe better sleep tonight

Lullaby? Double Bass Goes BRAHMS | Making of 1999-2021 Documentary | Božo Paradžik

Image
just over 5 hours of sleep I actually did not make it all the way through this vid so I will try again. I did listen to some really cool basson music from a quaker bassoonist. Well it was cool until I tripped over a weird psychic landmark. Oh happy day. But I got my shower before this morning's transportation zoom and survived to talk furhter about accessibility complexities in Zoom.
