5 hours of sleep insurrection hearings oops ouch whoa!!! all insurrection hearings need broccoli

Why is the HVAC system alternately blowing cold and hot air?

5+ hours of sleep. Wash dishes before it gets too hot. Now about the kitchen floor....? Various communication tangles but in the STAR Center alone with the HVAC alternately blowing cold and hot. Weird.  And on the accessible prescription labels front, better make sure to invite the Deaf Blind Service Center to the party.

Vid Late to my media streams The Muppets Introduce "The Jan. 6th Show"

Image
Seven hours of sleep is glorious even if it is achieved by going back to bed and sleeping until almost 11. Also, in the realm of turning ingredients into food, I now turned something I was worried about not leaving in my fridge for my trip into something yummy in the freezer when I get home. And Samuel Alito is bonkers, so I weirdly see the logic of his desire that the fate of abortion issues not be left in the hands of only the Supreme Court. I am glad LOTS of people are mad enough maybe to act fast with various approaches. AND I will say it again: take care of ALL the nation's children. Revive the Child Tax Credit. Paid Family Leave, Medicare for all and by the way how about comprehensive sex ed and easy access to birth control.  Plus, almost any experience is going to be better with a Muppet Intro.

Dry Data discussion

Image
Made it to six hours of sleep by going back to bed until 11 am, I love this guy's dry delivery even though adding a remote risk of polio to my mental fret list does not really seem necessary even if it is WELCOME relief from my other media streams.

Sweat the Zucchini: healthy, gluten-free, low-carb, keto fare

Image
Somewhere around 4 hours of sleep. It wasn't just the morning news cycle keeping me from going back to bed. Cue tirade: Okay now. Let's take care of ALL the children. Paid family leave. Child Tax Credit raise the minimum wage medicare for all. Or just have a healthy round of what one friend calls "outdoor group therapy" while the sun is out and before things start melting for the weekend. No matter how long before some events one starts to prepare it will still take up to the wire to actually get ready. And if one key to getting ready is go read a webpage full of structured negotiation settlements.... Verdict on my sister's injury: definitely broken ankle. Sister is diabetic and has other issues that put her at high risk for post-operative infection. So no surgery and a boot for six weeks. Sister did not interact with my blind nurse friend's suggestion that tylenol and dealing with inflammation is a really good way to handle bone pain. My mother and a friend o...

Quinoa porridge and freshly mown grass

Image
about 4 hours sleep in bed not counting over an hour napping in the chair Quinoa porridge turns out to be the perfect way to solve breakfast boredom. And it's gorgeous weather but lawn mowing day so noise and grass allergens in the air. I wish I didn't have such a love-hate relationship with the long days around the solstice. They are both energizing and exhausting. And my sister had some kind of inadvertantly plow her wheelchair and foot into a wall accident at home. She sent picture of UGLY know that turns out to be a break. Nephew is on road trip to CA and brother in law just upgraded from a 3G flip phone to 4G so I need to call him later. YuuuuuCK. And NO I DO NOT get to play shrink about some pieces. No I do NOT. Stupid pull off too easily handle design on laundry basket from Amazon

Peonies anonymously

Somewhere close to 6 hours not counting a nap. I am ONE WEEK away from flying to Omaha. This is where I start to get edgy, and it doesn't help when the morning's zoom wmae me want to write three blog posts. I got visit Mom for the flowers

What happened to the brussels sprouts?

Image
5 hours of sleep counting the going back to bed time.  Grocery order delivery was on the early end of the 7-9 hour. I thought I ordered brussels sprouts but the app thinks I ordered two jars of nutella and no brussels sprouts. Realistically even though brussels sprouts are making me very happy, I am going out of town in 8 days and have other things I need to eat up. The January 6 hearings are just riveting. The poll workers personally attacked by the President: that former guy should go to prison just for that. Happy Tuesday. Photo reprise from a couple days ago Leafed out vegetation, lake and clouds are gorgeous

A social day equals better sleep

Image
Almost 6 hours of sleep. Between not trying to do much after Compline and the day's various social connections, sleep was good and I didn't even feel like going back to bed. Also wired by Things To Follow Up On. If any of my info streams bring me ANY more notifications that kids can get COVID shots... And a musical number summoned after the last saturday night zoom. Someone spells her name wrong and I needed the right search string to get past a 1964 horror movie also called Devil Doll. So here we are. The lyrics Another version with crappy audio and crappy video Not quite sure I could live up to this lever of badassery but if the audio were better I would audition it for Earworm of the week. Other than that, Father's Day observed with only a couple moments of need just to howl "Mommm!" Good to dine with her and this time she "cooked." They can't have guests in the dining room, but can get an extra meal for a guest in their apartment. Neither of us w...

goback to bed or DO STUFF?

Image
5 ish hours of sleep. There is this decision point: go back to bed or Do Stuff. This morning Do Stuff won. Still basking in glow and chewing on things from yesterday. I think I missed the flowers I was aiming at

The safest nuclear weapons possible and if Jesus had an AK 47 or was it an AR 15?

Image
The cat permitted me almost SIX hours of sleep AND woke me up in time to make it to a retreat I forgot to more fully publicize. Travel size bottles of hand lotion. I love Amazon I hate Amazon I will make the customary may I have a copy of the powerpoint slides request but it will be fine to do that AND thank the presenter who used the slides. The other presenters had stunning black and white photos that I could hold up close and see enough to know the images are like plenty of other images I have seen of things to do with Guatemala. It was interesting to hear a former navy officer talk about safety and nuclear weapons and the need for multilateral initiatives and the needs of the Marshallese. There is of course no safe nuclear weapons and the ability to dock and load / unload missiles and warheads for two submarines at a time seems fraught with dangers not even counting what gets communicated with satellite imagery. Also frankly soothing to hear about how deep the norm is about co...

4 am laundry zombie

Image
I did achieve 5 hours of sleep. Despite pulling last load of wash out of dryer past 4 am. And I was vertical and even dressed by noon when I had a zoom conversation scheduled. Shower did not happen and some clothes still need to get put away. Plus I need to write email appreciating A LOT that is improving and the saying more about laundry. Number of dryers should AT LEAST match number of washers but dryers take longer. And it helps if the dryers will work whether they are fed by credit card or by coins. Other major step on the road to godliness: I TOOK OUT THE TRASH because laundry was out of the shopping cart I use to tote both trash and laundry. Rock on. And I made two kinds of food for different meals. I feel SO accomplished. The latest in laundering while blind. Tactile buttons? Audible cues? Who? What now? Tirade available about commercial laundry equipment and living independently. Credit card reader and 800 number to call for help.

Air travel minutia

Image
5 ish hours of sleep. I am a grown up. No one is forcing me to gape into the maw of the torrents of bilge defining current news streams. Anyway, I should also know better than even to look at air travel bookings until I have had breakfast. And on the sightseeing front, this building on the Tacoma waterfront fascinates me. I seem always to visit the Museum of Glass on cloudy days and some of the time I think about whether clouds would still make me want to live there. On the water next to a lot of concrete

After the fire

Image
About 5 hours of sleep. The thing about worshiping with Kyiv Friends: it feels powerful enough that I don't care that it starts at 12:30 am for me (and 3:30 for someone in MD!) It is COOL just to do it at home. Do not try to analyze all the various info streams. Just sit in worship. Messages are few; Friends from Kyiv are grateful. I do not get out much. Tonight I decided that my body needed at least a walk to taco Time. Hence the picture The trees are lovely. I hope the space still has green space and does not just turn into more that is tall and sterile. The Borracchini's building with no roof.

Use whatever size pen you need

Image
About 5 hours of sleep. Going back to bed would have been possible and probably a good idea but it did not happen. Laundry did not happen last night and other chores are also still pending. Laundry TONIGHT. Day was dedicated to people aging into blindness and person with a horrible neurological condition that makes it VERY bad even to look at a computer. Interestingly he says he does fine with things projected onto a screen. So actually something that will help seems doable.   Other than that, the scribbles below are dedicated to my grandfather, to self-care and odd but helpful things to hand out sometimes. Testing, testing

Monday Monday

Image
almost 6 hours of sleep after the nap in front of the computer. Amazing how much difference even that increment makes. At the moment I half wish one of my current Zoom meetings would go back to in person so that if we have to make blunt comments at least we get food out of the deal. But today's treasure vis Twitter Spectacular Yellow hibiscus

Happy wedding anniversary for both my parents and maternal grandparents

Image
5 hours of sleep. Despite abundant exercise yesterday body decided it would sleep 5 hours and then wake up when I could have safely slept another hour before time to leave for morning expedition. Digression in honor of todays Tacoma Museum of Glass expedition: If a glass artist makes one or more works out of entirely transparent glass, is it desecrating the artwork to light it either from the bottom or somehow in a really dark color so that even sighted people can better appreciate it? Yesterday turned out other than I first thought: I had not received a reminder email but my inquiry resulted in such a reminder. The festive anniversary is today and I did not duck the schedule item. I also braved commencement day travel to go visit my mom, bring her some pizza. She needed to tell about some memoir writing moments she is getting to do including her college graduation (in August) and move to MT. Good use of day does not mean other stuff does not need to be dealt with. The Hot shop, the Ta...

Fragrantly violated

I made it to about 5 hours of sleep. Before bed I was watching educational enlightening material--as well as the bilge of the day. Marjorie Taylor Greene is worried about January 6 defendants' rights being "FRAGRANTLY" violated.  So she's an illiterate lightning rod. It would be nice to be able to speak about that without cruelty. Maybe she's dyslexic. Maybe there's some other hidden thing going on. Dwelling on her vocabulary exists in my brain in the same no-go zone as making fun of Melania's English--UNLESS the observer can also do press interviews in their third or fourth language. Plus there's also that line between content and presentation. Her content would still be nuts even if her word choice were more idiomatic. It was a gorgeous day and every day seems like a good day to neglect household chores.

Laughter as Sleep aid: Trevor Noah on Republicans and gun control

Image
Miraculously I achieved 5 hours of sleep. I am a grownup. No one forced me to watch episode 1 of Jan 6 The miniseries. All I actually watched was the blunt outline by Liz "your Father is a War Criminal" Cheney.. Then for a chaser I rewatched the Kalush orchestra Stefania video for equal opportunity "WHAT are we doing?"  Is it just the curse of besetting those elected in election years ending in 0?  1980: Reagan shot attempted assassination. 2000: Bush v Gore 2020 and everything leading up to it for freaking YEARS. Or maybe it's just summer wouldn't be summer without eg 9/11 hearings George Floyd protests and the latest exercises? Thank heaven for late night comedians: Sam Bee and Masha Gessen, Steven Colbert and the below. There. I will now breathe deeply and get about reading more grant proposals.

Peachy?

Image
Somewhere around 5 hours of sleep. My booster arm is still warm with a noticeable lump around the shot site. Also I DO NOT remember as much itching as before, but I wonder whether that somehow has something to do with astronomical pollen counts. Okay, it's a theory...? Now an introduction to something freaky below. I have a morning cycle of sending something from the gif library on my phone to a variable list of people I am thinking of but may or may not want to try a conversation with. The choice of what to look for tends to depend on what I am extremely grateful to be eating or some reference to something on the radio or occasionally both. My phone will let me tap a picture 3 times to enlarge. I think I need to make a regular practice of... This morning I was eating the first apricots of the season and both grateful for and vexed by the plastic box I carried them in on the way home from TJ. I can't tell whether the fruit here is a peach or an apricot. It definitely does not h...

More and better word salad and still served to the wrong person

six hours of sleep! I forgot about getting a sore arm after previous shots. Sore arm and just dragging a little.  As for the word salad, this batch sounds just about as reasonable as my brother's past desire to sue basically the entire universe for "trillions and trillions of dollars."  Every paragraph is in a different font and something at the beginning already says "dismissal" so I am not even sure how much time I want to spend on it. But it is truly spectacular word salad.

Boosted! With a very famous blind person and his wife!

Image
4+  Hours of sleep with naps on either end. Any COVID symptoms? Uhhh, have you looked at the pollen counts lately? Life was definitely better after I got up nd just let my nose run for awhile. Once again, going back to bed looked possible clockwise but did not happen. Instead I caught the morning's last 9 express NB and then walked to a vax / second booster appointment at First AME. Arm historically does not get sore right away, but now that I mixed in other walking  cat food at TJ and lunch, I get to blame certain aches on the shot. Scene at the church was SO mellow. So much community happening while things got set up. I am glad I rescheduled something that would have made me very twitchy about the relaxed pace. And the famous blind person: I can see well enough to see someone came in with a white cane. The woman he was with sat between us, so I decided just to get out my noisy phone. He switched places with the woman who turned out to be his wife and we talked. I recognized ...

Not feeling visual today or visual getting used up too fast.

4 ish hours of sleep. I set early food delivery and then realized there might be door issues and my phone to ring the buzzer is not working.   Body said fine. I will wake you hours ahead of when you need to be semi functional. Delivery guy into the building fine. (No comment about that. Anyway no cute visual today because I seem to have used up my energy for visual fussiness today..

Restaurant quinoa and the last chickpea

Image
4.5 hours of sleep Clockwise I could have slept two more hours and still made it to the first Zoom I was going to try to attend. But body said nope, nope, nope that was not going to happen. It also turns out that it can take me surprisingly long to get my act together and I still after necessary daily computer incantations barely made it to my first Zoom. I also had to skip the international Quaker MfW about the war in Ukraine. To make up for that in the first worship I did make it to, I just blurted out a VERY unquakerly suggestion about how to get grain moving so that people in Africa don't starve while nuclear powers are pussyfooting around doing horrible things to civilians, feeding international arms marketers (YES, I DO mean marketers: just watch some of the clips on Youtube. ) but no, not not not going nuclear! There is a longer more cogent rant lurking here. The world can await delivery.  Or the world can digress to arms marketers and school shootings and mass shootings. ...

Just get the salad order right; the cookies don't hurt though

Image
4.5 hours of sleep? What can I say? Videos of a coup plotter getting arrested, indicted, and whining about it are just addictive. And then there's The War and all the angles on that. Mostly I was wired from a marathon of grant review reading and righteous annoyance both about some applicants' presumptiousness and about an accessibility issue that made the presumptiousness even more annoying. One of my survival strategies sometimes is to order pizza and several salads with dressing on the side. Last night it took the delivery person THREE trips to get me the right number of salads. She is new. I have nothing but encouragement anyway. She also brought me cookies. I would have kept ordering from there anyway. The cookies don't hurt.  Today I will try to do a worship while wired from my tech meetup. And I will appreciate one of the salads I got last night. Greetings from the cat

Socks, showers, Civilization

5.5 hours of sleep and then the cat head butts started. Going to bed earlier should have happened. I need just to be at home at night. Civilization seems very fragile these days. And showers are SUCH a blessing. And the good thing about holes in socks is excuses to order new ones. I have such a sister superiority thing about sock and self-care and avoiding some NASTY medical issues my sister dealt with when she wouldn't wear support socks. I HAVE to keep that at bay in order to try to avoid family psychodrama circles.   PS. I am wanting to beef up my summer travel wardrobe with some kind of badass T-shirt. "Ladies Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society" would be a little too bad-ass, and needing a large size with may xxx's may also save me from some options that might be a bad idea. Oh Happy day

On bleeping and not bleeping.

Woot! Well over 6 hours of sleep because going back to bed. No late-night Seattle time worship with Kyiv like night before last. But for various reasons mind wanders to the current war and whether all the profanity in Russian gets bleeped: some outlets do. Some media streams don't. But everyone learning new languages should make sure to come into contact with ad-hoc lessons on things teachers typically will not teach, no matter how unusual key verbs are. And more food donations I am happy to receive but puzzled by: a friend bringing over abundant gluten free flour and baking mixes, tea, turbinado sugar--and cat food. A few days ago she brought a larger than gallon bottle of milk, various flavors of chocolate and sweetened coconut. Today I made the second batch of very decadent chocolate coconut tapioca pudding. It's much easier to feel positive about the world if one is well chocolated.

Do you know what time it is here?

4.5 hours of sleep. I would have had time before my 9 am techno zoom to go back to bed after feeding the cat, but Ring, ring. Caller ID says Omaha Transit. Yes indeed a trip to Omaha is on the horizon. And the woman on the phone was responding to an email inquiry. She was so kind that I did not even grumble out of my bleary-eyed fog about "Do you know what time it is here?" VERY Black very funny NRA-themed humor from the Young Turks
