Science diversion of the day: The AMOC Might Be WAY More Unstable Than We Thought...Here's Why

Image
CPAP machine says 1.8 hours. I think it got turned off somehow and it was more like 4 hours based on when I went to bed and when I woke up. Good news: up early enough to get breakfast at McD's (Horrors) and get to Mom's to duck out of elevator problems by MOVING TO ANOTHER APARTMENT. She is happy. the new apartment will have better counter space but less square footage and a more rectangular layout than the current one. I liked a different one but she's the one who gets to live ther. Looked up various things about Uber and Metroflex. PROGRESS Tne police nabbed the guy they think murdered the bus driver. WHAT A RELIEF for everyone. After getting mail I visited new grocery that use to be HT market. WOW. I bought bananas but they decided the bananas and other groceries did not need to go to vigil for the bus driver. One aunt and my only remaining uncle are dealing with cancer. Uncle appears to be having a rough time of it.      Fun times

The bottom carmelized part makes it Authentic Spanish Vegetable Paella | So GOOD you won´t Miss the Meat

Image
This recipe intrigues me. I like lima beans and care less about shrimp even though I know paella sometimes contains several kinds of seafood. 4.0 hours of sleep. Too late to bed and maintenance banging on my door at 9 am. Freezer forcibly defrosted and then I turned ingredients into food. Now I have some trash to take out but unfortunately even to the trash chute might not happen until tomorrow. The other THRILL: new overhead light in the bedroom. Motivation to sort my socks and figure out why I have several socks with lost mates. First world problem. Other than that the federal budget survived for another few months. No #WarOnChristmas shutdown.  And no laundry tonight even though I have another grocery cart load. Life is GRAND

My soul needs this: Snowy owl spotted in Bellevue

Image
4.9 hours of sleep. 3 meetings just far enough apart to not be able to do any errands between here but close enough in time to at least a little mentally change gears.

NOT always sleep inducing: The Simple Math Problem That Revolutionized Physics

Image
Believe it or not, sometimes stuff like this relaxes me so I can go to sleep better. Other times it just puts me to sleep which may in fact be the point. 5.6 hours of sleep in spite of doing laundry. I CAN worship with Kyiv Friends and do laundry eve n though for a few different reasons I do not necessarily recommend it. Holiday party turned out beautifully even though I did nearly nothing.  MUCH gratitude and also gratitude for getting doors fixed. Now I will not just tweet my life away. I will not just tweet my life away. I will not just....

Spin a yarn> So What Are All These Drones About?

Image
Not just an ad for Ground News. 5.6 hours of sleep Doors work! All except a door that should NOT automatically open. But I have my meds and my phone charger and tomorrow is a holiday party..

Twice Baked Potato because once is never enough: Jalapeño Bacon - You Suck at Cooking (episode 175)

Image
Because I clearly need some funky cooking vocabulary and techniques to distract me from all there is to distract me from.      4.7 hours of sleep. Anxiety about trying to do all the things I wound up not needing to do anyway I don't know what I did to make my screen quite so huge. I WILL figure out how to undo it. I WILL also reflect on why the giant font seems so comfortable and simultaneously why I am not more adept at just screen reader and who needs what is on the screen. Today's door drama: the door that was left unsecured all weekend has now been secured. But the automatic door still does not work. I left half my life behind the door that locked and now I have to HOPE I can open the door tomorrow in time to run the computer lab. Today's other excitement: phoning about insurance coverage for a breast MRI. Dun.dun.dun cue the heavy plodding music.

Mark's Christmas tree

I refuse to condone the slaughter of evergreens. I also really don't have space for anything that is not flat. So here is a Christmas Tree story from Twitter / x   "This was my autistic son putting up his felt Christmas tree today. After he decorated, he sat and cried for a while. After I asked him what was wrong, he replied, " I am sad because nobody will see my tree and all the hard work I have done " He then asked me could I post the… pic.twitter.com/83a77c8n19 — Mr Commonsense (@fopminui) December 15, 2024 6.6 hours of sleep. Now if I could only keep that up every night. My computer is too slow and I need a bigger screen. I need help with about 10 2-hour blocks of tackling CHORES. And there was SUN so I could get more done in daylight while also TRYING not to have too much light in the evening. So many things I want to get to done tonight.  Will I or will I just tackle some of my laundry????

Delicious silliness 5 Ways to Pesto Eggs - You Suck at Cooking (episode 174)

Image
This video is deliciously silly. Plus I have no visuals of the global zombie invasion that keeps infesting my Twitter / X Something like 3.3 hours of sleep. Could that be why I came home from holiday party and flopped in my chair? If I move around now will I summon energy badly needed to do laundry???? UBS holiday party was fun!. Bus worked . Food and setting were great. Weather getting home was bearable but not great. Will I have more energy tomorrow. WTF with all the sirens????

Reopening Notre Dame: Hallelujah but listen to the French lyrics

Image
Limited French but what I get from the transcript: French lyrics much more appropriate to the reopening of a cathedral than that very bad breakup Leonard Cohen version Negligible sleep one night due to nerves Meeting went well yesterday and I slept 5.9 hours in bed on top of basically flopping in chair when I got home from meeting. Festive holiday sugar

Image
This picture of packages under the mailboxes is NOT how I want my deliveries to go. I forgot I had ordered some festive holiday sugar (peppermint taffy) until I was wondering where my peppermints are. 4.9 hours of sleep We will not discuss from when until when or which meeting I decided did not need my presence fulltime. Festive holiday sugar

Fusion Korean TexMex chili concarne for the definitely non-vegans among us

Beer, jalapenos, Korean fermented chili paste 4.6 hours of sleep. Phone calls, zooms, water plants. No outside exercise but rode the exercycle for an hour while on the office class Zoom.

History longer than last month's election Notre Dame bells ring for FIRST time since 2019 fire

I kind of hope to find more expansive vids. I love hearing that the organ has been restored. I wonder how many of the organists historically have been from the "15-20's" a charity originally for returning war vets and blind people. 3.7 hours of sleep. Hair washed before meeting. practicing saying ... Trip to Amazon Fresh.

It would never occur to me to turn into a cat but What If You Woke Up as a Cat? Surprising Secrets You’d Learn!

Image
4.2 hours of sleep after about 3 hours dozing in the chair. Lots of Twitter snark. EXTREMELY glad something that was flaky on the schedule got rescheduled--by text at 7 am in time to replan from 2 pm on. Fetched mail. "package" was a BUTTON in honor of 40th college reunion. Really?

An ingredient combination that would never have occurred to me but since one can travel through space and time just reading recipes here we are, in Spain via Tuna stew 4.2 hours of sleep. Birthday party last night was a hit. I at pizza leftovers for breakfast. TOO MANY meetings today. Too much yakking when I need to breathe and focus and not just chatter. Meet with surgeon January 9. Fun. Practice talking about it between now and then.

EGGPLANT would have been an awesome addition to the birthday party. Melanzana 'Ncaciata | Kitchen on the Cliff

Image
Nephew wanted pizza. It took some huffy moments about I am not sure which but everyone made it into car and then into lovely room on the main level because THE ELEVATOR IS STILL OUT OF SERVICE. ETA for repairs: at least two days. But we all survived and sauteing eggplant bare without any special coating is an interesting idea. 4.2 hours of sleep. Even though I have to-do's in my email I am in such a food coma from the pizza and ice cream, I think I will just GO TO BED.

Gen Z cooks on camera: Crack Slaw - You Suck at Cooking (episode 169)

Image
Vocabulary definitely unconventional. Including about preparation techniques. 4.4 hours of sleep. I started the trickle of phone calls. First step: wallet and insurance biopsy I love being in meetings where people are glad to see me. I have a headache about other meetings. And the elevator to Mom's floor IS NOT WORKING AGAIN. I do not like this Sam I am. Nephew's birthday.
