Unusual Amazon return: Cat survives unintended 600-mile journey

Image
STOP calling pets' owners their PARENTS. Just STOP IT. Call them the humans. 4.4 hours of sleep. Not enough exercise besides the silly exercise bike. Election coverage is addictive. Also unhelpful in terms of actually doing anything to help. It's RAINING so time for the blind people do yoga blog post.

Ancient city discovered with very modern tools: Mayan city discovered in Mexico jungle by accident | BBC News

Image
For anyone getting too verklempt over modern city / urban life problems 3.4 hours of sleep. Going back to bed would have been an option that did not happen. Also did not happen: some needed phone calls. This morning I was all set to pen a post about "Friends don't let friends commit genocide"referencing a couple media moments including a nut job telling very articulate free palestine support Mehdi Hasan "I hope your pager doesn't go off." Tonight I am tired and I don't know what nerves are too fried to herd that thought into something digestible.

Britain’s cursing parrots!!!

Image
cursing parrots: REALLY funny.  Cursing racist bigoted DISGUSTING humans: not so much. 5.4 hours of sleep. Preferred modes of procrastination today: it will soon be alumni admissions interview time. Cycles of the year. And yet, my floor demands attention AND I am behind on my email. Also in the realm of march of time: --Europe goes back to standard time this week. The US does it next week. If I do not stay up to worship with Friends in Ukraine, that will be why. --MY CHRISTMAS CACTUSES HAVE BUDS.

LIFE member and "run of show"

Image
As usual with a big event, body is back at home, but brain is still in a time warp and, even worse, with many thoughts to write follow-up emails about. New Life Member Pin  3.3 hours of sleep in bed and a couple more in chair after Compline. Run of show is all about coping with aggravations in large underheated meeting rooms with wonky sound and zoom issues followed by even more mutant ways to make a banquet frayed around the edges. Good intentions about writing wiped away in exhaustion and late-night snacking. I am not sure whether it is good or bad to have time to keep swimming in the election season online fever swamps. It is kind of addictive.

Timothy Snyder on Obeying in Advance: Media billionaires ask for tyranny

Image
5.4 hours of sleep And a video about themes guaranteed to keep many people of conscience awake at night. I am glad to be home with my regular food and more or less my regular routine except also still catching up and digesting convention.

Fidget toys for everyone

Image
Fidget toys in the swag bag where attendees are going to be sitting a lot is kind of genius. There were several kinds of fidget toys. Here is the one that came home with me. The fidget toy in my goodie bag 5.4 hours of sleep AND breakfast at McDonalds. AND only missing a few minutes of morning session. transit gods had hiccups getting home but it was survivable. Such a good way to exercise.

Neither person nor creature to welcome one home but a sweet Siberian Forest Cat vid will have to do.

Image
Because a Siberian forest cat is a MUCH-needed timeline cleanse. 3.4 hours of sleep   I streamed some but not all of the opening session of Convention. Wise move because of washing hair the night before and needing to air dry before sitting under cold gales while the hotel relied on body heat to warn the main meeting room. Exercise is SO energizing. It's also tiring. But convention is one giant contact high even if it's one one-on-one conversation at a time. Transit gods again smiled to and from with all connections lining up within a few minutes at each transfer point.

Basson. Bassoon! Donatien Bachmann, bassoon and François-Xavier Poizat, piano play Dubois...

Image
Taking a break from recipes. VERY modern. 3.2 hours of sleep to celebrate nerves before convention about all the Things To Do that did not get to-done. What did get to-done: Fetched 2 packages: --shoes that I like very much except I realized that that pair and another I also have not worn are a size too long and I need to call and beg and plead to return / exchange them. --NEW PASSPORT. Renewal sent off with no urgency and back faster than I expected. Also to-done: a board meeting where the "there is no such thing as a stupid question" applies to "What is a parliamentarian?" Also applies PERHAPS to "We have been doing things this way for 40 years and it seems to be working so why....?" See the first question. Transit achievement: thank you planning ahead and the Metro 161: Get to hotel on transit without having to cross International boulevard.

A wholesome alternative to swirling world events: Carmen Fantasy for piano 6 hands

Image
This, I think is a repeat. It does not feel nearly as ungainly as my siblings and I plonking away at "The Old Grey Mare Ain't what she Used to be." and something else that was a drinking song repurposed as something religious.  I don't necessarily recommend piano 6 hands as a path to sibling solidarity, but everyone did survive. 5.3 hours of sleep. Phone calls. Shower in order to be acceptable on Zoom. Tonight time to assemble food supply for convention tomorrow. Boy do I know how to party.

Adopt older animals. Nobody wanted this cat. So I took her home.

Image
From the heart-rending videos about animals genre 6.0 hours of sleep. Yesterday I wore a new shirt. It is so luxurious to have sleeves that are too long. Thank you Lands End Big and Tall men's collection. Going to bed at a reasonable hour is SO sensible. Nice Sun and crisp fallen leaves. Feels surprisingly cold but it's glorious.

Happy Monday: Czerny: Brilliant Variations Op. 295 for piano 6 hands (체르니: 6핸즈 화려한 바...

Image
I tend to like Czerny and it's perfect for one piano six hands 3,3 hours of sleep in bed and another hour in chair. I definitely should have gone back to bed. I need to redo my LinkedIn profile. 5 hours on zoom is a lot even if I get paid for 2 of them.

Cat info EVERYONE needs

Image
Considering all the cat themes swirling in the US elections AND elections in several other countries, the world desperately needs this survey of how properly to call cats. Audio is unsatisfactory. Video is black cats in various cat poses, each under a different national flag with text about how to summon a cat in that country. 4.2 hours of sleep. Going back to bed would theoretically have been possible but then I might have missed WONDERFUL Adult Religious Ed. Other accomplishments: found some lost socks that had fallen behind the dresser. Took out recycling and compost.  VOTED Half listened to compline: audio was not as good as one recent REALLY great week. Sigh.

Yummy savory Baked Pumpkin Polenta | Food Wishes

Image
Fascinating speech pattern and a recipe I want to try. 5.3 hours of sleep. A LOT of laundry last night and still to bed by a decent hour. Lots of movement so sleep was easy. Today was #BlindPeopleVote day at the library. I wound up deciding not to vote yet. WINDY but good day. Also mail order new socks so I can retire some old ones and NEW clothing thank you Lands End big and tall men's department.

Fun sounding food: Crispy Cauliflower with coconut milk, tahini & Zesty Lime Yogurt ASMR

Image
This sounds so yummy I had to add tahini to my Amazon order. Yep. I order from Amazon. That means I also am entitled to have other strong opinions. 4 ish hours of sleep Getting to bed at a reasonable hour still a problem. YouTube is addictive. Plus give me a list of things personal and political to be twitchy about. Happy brother's birthday. I could live without some news triggering news items. Oh happy day. I got a ton of laundry done. Good because I am kind of imobilized emotionally and I get to just slog through and tend to basics like changing some lightbulbs. Now maybe finish taking out the trash and find places for the clean laundry.

Just the season for something different with Pumpkin or Squash

Image
LOVELY sounding seasonal alternative to Pumpkin Spice EVERYWHERE 4 ish hours of sleep. Having the fan on seems to help even though it's getting colder. One really good in-person conversation. Bananas at Uwajimaya. Also carrots, a salmon steak, and a couple other things. Lively WCB Zoom tonight.

Image
Fight world weariness from news torrents with heart rending cat adoption story. Did the cat adopt the humans? 5.5 hours of sleep. Good thing I stayed in bed instead of getting up to do laundry. Rumble Rumble Sinfonía Africana Tuba

Image
4.4 hours of sleep. I TRIED to go to bed early and woke up once in the middle of the night. Plenty exercised yesterday from visit to Mom and plenty of running around. Today was white cane day walk and buying groceries. Amazing weather Blind people running into each other: good prep for convention. We hope hotel settles strike with their union because LOTS of us won't cross picket lines. Too much blind people zoom but very jazzed by number of younger people on WCB candidates forum cal.

Summer treat No Bake Cheesecake He Made For The Royal Family

Image
Yeah, it's fall. A lot of the trees are bright red. The sun brings that magical light which demands sunglasses because it is starting to be low and bright So save this recipe for when there are fresh berries. 5.4 hours of sleep. A lot of hither and thither. Thank you temporary bus stop, light rail, F line and the usual 107 and walk for visit to Mom. FUN art gala. Stomach too full of salty meat with crackers and petit fours. Firstworld problems. And if I manage to go to bed at a reasonable hour again...

Interesting flavor combo even without Boar' meat How to Eatllike a Celtic Druid

Image
5.4 hours of sleep. Zoom with uncombed hair. Good thing it was a webinar not on camera. Too many things coming to the inbox. I need to trim and focus.

No Nunnery, history: Eat Like a Medieval Nun - Hildegard of Bingen's Cookies of Joy

Like a Resse's cup but in a pie: The Best Peanut Butter Pie

Image
I would: --Probably use some kind of low fat margarine and maybe different cookies for the crust --Use cream cheese rather than butter for the peanut butter layer. --not do anything different for the chocolate ganache. 5.5 hours of sleep. I missed my weekly 9 am techno zoom but I will watch the video. I will. I will Somehow energized by people with ideas and energy. 4.2 hours of sleep. Too much of the day on virtual meetings. Abundance, supplies accumulating.

No the food of previous centuries was NOT necessarily all tasty. Feeding the Ottoman Army - Warrior's Halva

Image
If the world is beset by ever mutating wars, one can still be entertained by the provisioning of armies in previous centuries. 7.0 hours of sleep. Pretty amazing. Being HOME before even falling asleep in a chair was helpful. Also whatever caffeine there may have been in the evening mocha beverage was either less than a latte or somehow outweighed by hazelnuts and milk. October so time to resume watering the Christmas cactus. So grab blessings where one can find them and MAYBE get the trash taken out tomorrow.

Basson. Always room on the playlist for a bassoon. Concerto for Bassoon | Eric Ewazen

Image
3.4 hours of sleep. Grownup responsibility for drinking a fully leaded latte at 5 pm. Zoom and not enough exercise. Neither housecleaning nor going to buy bananas.  Helped with an ARE. People want more. Oh well

As distraction from a lot else: Monitoring at Mount Adams to increase after spike in earthquake activity

Image
4.6 hours in bed and another hour in chair Trying not to overdo  bright lights in the evening. Also not as desperately sleep swamped as for a couple days. Hair got washed before tech meetup. If the #FreePalestine event is in the police dept. weekend schedule, it's almost certainly a permitted event. But other errands, so attend by Twitter Fetched mail.  Latte late in day. Restroom before and after latte I hate laptop keyboard. Maybe I should upgrade.

Too tired to find a cat vid

5 ish hours of sleep Good thing I left clothes laid out before bed. Rain, bus trips, and by end of bus rides walk, no rain just evidence of rain. Sun on the way home at least in Redmond but then things clouded over. At least I got exercise. Still basking in glow of COOL celebration.

When I need to make crispy tofu

Image
So the thing with food vids: I don't necessarily need to make the items presented but it is still fun to hear the tips here. 5 is hours of sleep. I woke up too early and decided to go ahead and eat a banana and soup. Then I went back to bed for about another 2 hours. I woke up with a nice but complex and probably unrealistic dream. Lots of email. Life is back in good shape as far as key issues. Sun is awesome but I did not get to spend enough time in it.

Autumn with Octobasse @ Cité de la musique, Paris
