Pie Nostalgia: 20 pies you might never have heard of.

Image
Sometimes food videos are interesting / entertaining / a welcome timeline cleanse even if one is not hungry and has no interest in some of the options. Some of the options here are kind of intriguing. Also, I have never had enough gooseberries to make a pie but I think I have had gooseberry jam. I am not that wild about pie crust, so jam seems like a better idea anyway. And if one lives in places where gooseberries grow well.... 5.6 hours of sleep. Lovely blind chatter conversation about people's travel plans and experiences. Iceland and volcanoes. Ireland.... Once again, the under the desk exerciser is a HUGE help. Now back to my previously scheduled and much postponed CHORES

Surprise: no transit on the schedule.

Image
Gee. It would be lovely to be able to label photos in the camera app so one does not wonder days later what this picture is about. I think it might have been rider going off about something or other. Luckily the guy got off without further incident  4.6 hours of sleep. Up almost in time but missed the first few minutes of a convention session. Best session of the day was about accessible games. Even though I do not care about gaming the presenters did such a great job that I almost COULD be interested. Mom said, "don't come until Thursday." So I won't. Hard to say how things are going settling into a routine, but it was a relief to take out trash and wash hair and just Zoom. Power outage tonight in the middle of trying to blog. And a friend came over and brought me a VERY cool messenger bag I will probably use for trip to MT. Interesting LA Theater works piece about Marconi and wireless telegraph. And look at where AI is getting us now. So count blessings and  breathe...

Not used to prayers from abroad A Donald Trump win would leave America in 'serious crisis' | Scott Lucas

Image
May be NOT such a weird meme considering THE DEBATE last night. I did not watch. I was too busy with parliamentary procedure and blind people in meetings issues. I also did not wade as far into social media as I might have today. 5.4 delicious hours of sleep. Two sessions of blind convention online because one of my mentees had to reschedule. Bit excitement was needing to go to South Lake Union for a medical thing. The test is routine once a year screening. Denny Way was already a parking lot at 3:00. Then I made the mistake of stopping at Whole Paycheck on the way home for bananas, bread, soup and watermelon. I love eatins outside. I do not understand why people with Y chromosomes are so clueless about packing bananas. IN the bag next to the watermelon is just not a good idea, especially when I give someone two bags HOPING they will balance the load. We will not discuss how long everyone else and I waited for a bus that is supposed to have 15 minute headway. OF COURSE the bus was pack...

God Will Cut You Down

Image
Solo  Slow, percussion and piano? 4 ish hours of sleep. Up in time for a lively discussion of blind people and AI. Coolish day Too much ACB zoom and Roberts Rules of order can be PAINFUL

Use yer print command, oh and the last of the Folklife quilt pics

Image
Quilt pic needed so head does not explode. The use yer print command magically transformed a completely screen reader unreadable PDF to one that the magic screen reader could read. BIG step forward. Loving that big tree shadow in front of the quilts. 5.4 hours of sleep. No late night snacks I still should have gone to bed earlier considering I missed my favorite Wednesday webinar and will have to watch it later on YouTube. Always beautiful just to walk outside from one building to the other, especially when the front door is back to working correctly. My friend Nagu left me MAGNIFICENT presents from her trip to India. I had part of one container of cooked rice for lunch. I feel blessed and embarrassed because I cannot find one of her pieces of silk.

Another earworm flavor God's Gonna Cut You Down II A Life In Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash

Image
4.0 hours of sleep. Pizza late in the evening.  Exercise bike later than is a good idea. AND the middle of the night Amazon order. Looking through some old blog posts looking for one I specifically remember and cannot find. Anyway one point: too much current politics. TRY to be more energizing. Anyway TRY.

Southern Raised: God's Gonna Cut You Down

Image
A good earworm does well with variations. Really interesting ensemble and instrumentals Really deep bass voices just fascinate me. If life is going to be kind of dark, set it to music anyway Somewhere 5 hours total but only about 3 in bed. One of those can't sleep in bed, can't move until I sleep some more in a chair.

Next on the earworm of the week God's Gonna Cut You Down (live) [slide guitar cover]

Image
I like the slide guitar here. Also just interesting to listen to the different ways people pronounce words 4.7 hours of sleep. Also washed hair and did Zoom meetings Still NEED TO TAKE TRASH OUT. Also need new toilet work order and to troubleshoot microwave. There shouldn't be any reason I tripped the circuit breaker. There also shouldn't be any reason for the microwave to quit working. But who asked me? Brother phoned mom yesterday so she got contact with all 3 of her kids. Brother is somehow on oxygen and HAS TO quit smoking.

The Seneca Project: a new ad

Image
I promise to post cool ad efforts like this mainly on my other blogs but this whole initiative gives me hope. I think in clock time about 5 hours of sleep. A good afternoon of slinging boxes for Mom after MANY transportation adventures.

Earworm of the week "Run On (God'll Cut You Down)" here with Tom Jones

Image
YouTube has suggested a new earworm. I have collected several different performance videos. I also mean to research the meaning behind the words. 3.9 hours of sleep LAUNDRY in the evening. ALL THE MACHINES were working.

Who needs quilts? It's SUMMER, the solstice, the longest DAY of the year.

Image
Another shot of quilts from Folklife just in time for the Fremont fair if I decide to go. 3 quilts in blue hues with different square or diamond patterns 4.9 hours of sleep and no laundry yet but maybe tonight. Yesterday was a not enough exercise day so I HAD to move today. Now I have lots of brainwork to do tomorrow. AND I need a new computer. And I need to just learn NVDA and figure out some licensing issues. It's past 80 so time to start whining about heat. HOPEFULLY tomorrow I will get some trash taken out tomorrow. Also floors need mopping again. SURPRISE

Baptism in Gatorade: A Catholic organization built an AI priest. Here’s what happened.

Image
AI priest???? This just sounds like a bad idea on SO many grounds. 3.9 hours of sleep in bed and another hour + in a chair. 2 of my usual Wednesday meetings cancelled because it's Juneteenth.  I am glad Juneteenth is a holiday and DOUBLY glad it isn't fixed by the Monday Holiday law. I think I am going to go do laundry. Party down.

Sing to MTG Tennessee Brando - Bleach Blonde Bad Built Butch Body (Blues Remix)

Image
Some corners of cultural zeitgeist are still digested this and associated memes. Personally, if someone is going to make fun of someone else's fake eyelashes, everyone should come to work the next day with their Groucho Marx noses. And when the house gets too raucous #MTG could call a movement break for two minutes of deep breathing and seated aerobics. And for extra entertainment there could be two factions arguing: "Buth is homophobic" No it's NOT. gameify this and have some kind of point system with extra prizes every time the committeechairman says "A what now?" What? This might not fly with House rules...? 4.0 hours of sleep And I made it to presentable more than in time for a late morning Zoom. Plus I opted for shorts and NEW SOCKS and green T-shirt. Other conniptions lurking.

Dining al fresco

Image
The Burgermaster on Aurora Ave N. To me it is miraculous that cars can pull in. a cheerful waitperson will take an order and than there is room to park and eat dinner without having to scurry through a drive through. The burgers and veggie burgers are cooked while you wait. The wait is worth it. There is also ONE table for stubborn people like me.  The dine in your car section at Burgermaster 4.7 hours of sleep. HEROIC effort to get every schedule except the last page of my income taxes done FINALLY. but tonight I am too tired to ge over the last hump. So I am just going to give up and go to bed. Good day to go to the post office. CHECKS and NEW SOCKS so I can retire both some that are truly worn out and some that just are not preferable. So much to do to impose order at home...

Event Swag: Phone Charger and hand sanitizer

Image
Does or does not fussing with Twitter / X enhance one's worship experience? What about if one is already stressed and on edge? Unworshipfully going through swag from yesterday's event and mercilessly asking the Twitterverse rhetorically, will this really work?   4.9 hours of sleep on top of 2 is falling asleep in front of computer at home. At home at least it's a shorter distance to walk to bed and less time for all the anxieties to jump out while getting ready for bed. I MUST finish taxes. I MUST. I MUST.

Event swag but no sleep

Image
3 hi=ours of sleep 4 hours of paid transit nerd gig. and an afternoon of transit adventures to go see Mom. I am too tired to think let alone write alt text. So happy guessing.

Echoes of a nerdy youth: Jimmy Kimmel vs 12-Year-Old Spelling Bee Winner Bruhat Soma

Image
This year's Scripps Howard National Spelling bee was on Pay Per View. This is one option when one does not want to pay. 3.1 hours in bed and two hours in chair because I did not go back to bed. URK. I missed a call with one of my mentees. And a retirement party was kind of low-key but I was SO grateful for friends who offered a ride. Tonight I HOPE to do laundry AND get to bed in time to bounce out early tomorrow. Rather FIRM insistence that I DEAL WITH paperwork. I wish the subject did not tie me up in knots, especially on the week my therapist is recovering from minor surgery AND I need to spend extra time helping my mom MOVE. But maybe I am supposed just to GET A JOB Raim. Juneuary,

Twitter / X, Purple silk, spices, and some kind of cookies

Image
I have no freaking idea why Blogger won't let me make this bigger or reposition it. The latest, cough, "improvement" in Elon's sandbox  6.0 hours of sleep and too tired to rant further about the above mentioned "improvemen." No choice about clicking OK. Also too tired to do another transpo info quest. THANK YOU to friends who offered me a ride to an event tomorrow. According to Google there is a frequent bus near the venue, BUT I cannot tell if there is some gnarly street crossing involved. Mom can't find her hearing aid charger and it sounds like she chose the cheaper moving company and they did a crappier job than her neighbors got with the other recommendation. Have I mentioned that I am not charged with my new wireless magnetic phone charger. After #100+ I expect to be thrilled. But I DID finally go pick up a present a friend brought me back from India. It is BEAUTIFUL purple silk. Now what. I know what: see if I can map Metro Flex to go visit.

Morequilts because i am too tired to be snarky

Image
All this and an outdoor Mozart requiem sing-along.  Echoes of Folklife  4.6 hours of sleep. It sounds like nephew was HEROIC about helping Grandma move. Mom's apartment sounds like it is in about the state one would expect after a move. I am SO grateful she had help from grandson and not cdaughters. Mom says 64 years ago was a whole new phase of life. (wedding anniversary) and now is another.

Nothing says hoped for sleep like QUILTS

Image
Nothing says hoped for sleep like QUILTS. These quilts hung in one of the Folk Life venues. They are on the wall and it was nowhere near bedtime.  Folk Life + quilts. 5.9 blessed hours of sleep I wasn't hungry for porridge so I didn't make any. Body clock is jumbled by the long days but I LOVE THEM. Rant topic of the day so far is the Hunter Biden guilty verdict..

No Cat vids. Not much sleep either

Image
No cloying cat vids today. but look what has been moldering awy in the drafts folder. Somewhere around 4 hours of sleep. We won't discuss from when to when. We won't discuss trying to get anything done in a zombie state. A bunch of other things we won't discuss include getting mad because I made the grownup decision to wade into an old trauma zone. BLEAH. I did get my plants watered but they reminded me how badly I need to repot some of them. Happy Monday.

I WILL get another cat. I WILL get another cat I WILL Get another cat. 5.4 hours of sleep! NO computer lab time yesterday was a help. So was cleaning the refrigerator. And tonight it's still light at St Mark's at least at the beginning of compline.

Ring them Bells Dylan official version

Image
In lieu of, I dunno, upside down American flags This version is one of the more listenable I have found      5 ish hours of sleep, but in weird spurts.  Today I cleaned the fridge. Boy did it need it. Now about the broken shelf and the vegetable drawer full of water. I kind of want a new fridge. Will that happen? Dunno. I have not gone to the computer lab at all today. I think it's okay. If I fall asleep not so far to go to get to bed. A meeting was cancelled tomorrow afternoon so I get to go cheerlead and be fetch and carry for my mom's moving effort. Her downsize is inspiring me. Other than that Norwegian Cruise line mailer is inspiring and evoking memories of travelling in Europe 45 years ago. Gorbachev was in China just after Tien an mien. My Eurail pass got me overnight trips on Silja line ferries. I could just sleep on the deck in recliner chairs. One night I struck up a conversation with 2 guys, one from Cuba, one from Norway. Russian was the only language we ...

Reggae for Marge

Image
Boom Shakalaka Bob-Bleach Blonde Bad Built Butch Body #bleachblondebadbu... for a bodybuilder who may or may not live in the "I don't care what you say about me, just keep saying it" school of media presence. I like this version both for the reggae feel and because the story is better than some of the musical reflections. 4.9 hours of sleep.  We will not discuss from when to when. National gun violence awareness day. I forgot to wear orange. Even better, to go to a related event at a nearby park, I got to deal with my "favorite" accessible pedestrian signal, the one with sound that is supposed to be wooodpeckers or some such and...sounds just like gunfire.

Reading the Bible to a cat

Image
I don't think any of the cats who have been part of my life would have much cared about someone reading the bible to them, but this video is good for putting humans to sleep. 5.5 hours of sleep! Phone is back in working order after I bought it both a magnetic wireless charger AND a spiffy new charging block to plug the charger into. The new devices are such different size from the old that i decided I need a plastic container to store them together safely in my bag. Plus I somehow needed to reclaim the neighborhood after a shooting at a neighborhood high school. THERE ARE TOO DANG MANY GUNS. and ordinarily, I don't need either fat or salt, but somehow it seemed right to visit Ezell's, one of my favorite glarfy calorie hazards. Evening scene was way more mellow than the afternoon must have been, and the bus reroutes were long over. And I needed a walk and managed to intersect at Walgreens with a container set that I think will work.  Rock on!

We need more Zebras: Zebra zeal

Image
No zebras nearby. Sigh 3.9 hours of sleep plus maybe half an hour in the chair. After spiffy new magnetic charger, today I had to go get a new charging block too. $50 each. Plus a bus trip each day. Boy do I know how to have fun.

Some days one should just drink in the azalea energy

Image
The picture is from the last day of Folklife and the custom of the Seattle Peace Chorus doing a Mozart Requiem sing-along which seems actually a fitting thing for Memorial day and definitely more congenial than other ways to observe. Never mind the trash on the metal table.  5.4 hours of sleep.in bed plus nap after a snack. The Force with rants is especially strong today. Terrible because my phone is DEAD, so DEAD that it won'd even hold a charge long enough to receive verification codes. The words "named plaintiff" are on my mind. I can't be the only one. In the meantime I sat through 2.5 hours of a city council hearing today to make progress closer to home. PS Happy Birthday Alexei Navalny

Instead of bells Tom Jones with Blind Boys of Alabama at Bluesfest 2024

Image
4.1 hours in bed and then another 1.5 hours in my chair. I wish I could figure out the go back to bed thing or figure out an alarm clock in my bedroom. First world problems. And my phone is sort of charging, sort of. I HATE phones that are not durable.

Someone who can actually sing: Sarah Jarosz - Ring Them Bells (Bob Dylan) - 2023-08-27 - Tønder Festival

Image
4+ hours of sleep counting chair and bed. Shower before bed sometimes relaxes but not last night. Other than that, aches and pains. --I need to shop in person for some shoes. One of these days it will happen. --I have the same kind of wart on the same foot where my dad had one. Lovely cycles of partial wart removal and then reminder that there is more to go. Must maintain mobility. Must maintain mobility. --Dinner at Mom's and I am SO proud of how she is handling the move. Still need to find my copy of her apartment key. I found the cat key. I found a bunch of other keys. One even fits in the lock but does not turn it. I THINK I know where to look next. --Next step: MORE transportation nuances. Fun somehow.

Dylan, slightly less raspy than yesterday: Ring Them Bells-Vicar Street Dublin-13.09.2000

Image
4.6 hours of sleep. Really poignant Tech meetup. And very SWEET birthday party for an old Quaker and other sometime Quakers. Today the VP is in town. Due, I imagine, to the level of whackjob jabber in the interwebs, even less specificity about travel than when the Prez came a few weeks ago. Luckily no apparent issues.
