No, the holiday is not over: Boil That Cabbage | The Smothers Brothers

Image
Dedicated to whichever Smothers Brother just died. RantWoman to be honest has never encountered The Smothers Brothers so apparently YouTube thought it was time to learn 4.6 hours of sleep. Will I just go to bed before the fireworks??? Parody: Rot in Hell documented here as anartifact even though it's really too raw even for someone who needs parodying as much as #DonTheCon

Christmas is STILL HERE: The Funniest CHRISTmas Song Ever

Image
6.9 hours of sleep. We will not discuss from when to when. A good day of turning ingredients into food. I WILL get the lential brownies baked tomorrow and also the ratatouille. Really sweet conversation and Christmas gift exchange. Happy Saturday.

Back to Bassoonness: Bassoon Concerto: III. threatening, fast

Image
4.4 hours of sleep. Why does it take so long to fall asleep in bed but I can doze off all over the place during the day? Don't say it's just not sleeping enough.

And ANother one: Carol of the Bells Trans Siberian Orchestra 11 29 21

Image
Clearly I still have a hankering for extravagant celebration 4.4 hours of sleep. More would have been AWESOME but I was on a mission. I love ya IRS website. Finally, thank you live human customer service, the phrase "Planned Outage" means COME BACK NEXT WEEK. Now about more rounds of rescheduling, medical and otherwise. About that space / time continuum.... And some email And a Goodwill run

Holiday tuba exuberance: Hundreds of musicians at TubaChristmas 50th anniver...

Image
5 ish hours of sleep. Eek Correction 4.3 hours of sleep Up in time for techno zoom Almost as much Zoom as sleep and still things to chug through. Eek. Actually more Zoom than sleep. I had to change a medical appointment. It took me THREE TRIES before I hit a date I was actually available and the third time I decided I should reschedule the other event that collided on the calendar. So about space and time... Adulting is overrated.  Enjoy some tuba cheer.

Last year's Carol of the Bells --in the Toyota arena

Image
It's that after Christmas letdown. I still have some of the holy hymns in my drafts folder but I also am not ready to let to of ridiculously overdone. In that spirit 4.9 hours of sleep. Schedulewise I could have gone back to bed after waking up needing to pee but I did not. I am physically tired from all the food prep yesterday and well fed from eating a late-night half meal. This morning though I had to just name that I should avoid sulfites. Can of pineapple juice seemed fine but it made me sneeze and tear up in a way that, oddly enough, also makes me see better at least temporarily. I don't think the sneezing is preferable but the tears in eyes thing.... Biggest achievement so far: updated my software licenses for my accessibility software. I wonder if I have an old never expiring license. Also, I did it on laptop without earphones in the computer lab. Annoyance + education all in one package. It's hard to feel motivated to work. I think Mondays are the WORST way to have...

It's BLACK KIDS TAPDANCING. WHY the garbage rhetoric

Okay I can guess: the country is rapidly becoming majority non-white and some people instead of appreciating the spice that diversity brings are just, being vulgar, losing their Sh***t about needing to share reality. Sorry. Not sorry. Cope. I know you can. 6.7 hours of sleep. Some VERY fun text greetings. A day on the bus: --streamline personal baggage --first find all the plausible totebags. --Assemble prezzies in one bag and potluck items in the second.  --Put on hi vis gear and hi vis visibility hack hat. --RAIN. Blop Blop.  --Get on first bus that comes by and then take train and another bus. Less rain at the last transfer. I know how to do veggie prep for 20 but apparently not for 6. I now have an ocean of spinach artichoke dip that I will probably try to make some kind of a custard out of. I also stayed up making split pea soup with some leftover Christmas party ham. MERRY CHRISTMAS ( belatedly but)

A carol for emissaries? 'o tlhIngan wo' (Klingon Carol of the Bells) by Klingon Virtual Choir

Image
Readers familiar with the ethnography of the original Star Trek will remember that Klingons live for war. I am NO expert in Klingon linguistucs, but those who have made up a Klingon language have not even included words for a number of key concepts. Also someone has a WEIRD sense of humor rendering what is originally a UKRAINIAN carol in Klingon. But there's a link for anyone who wants to know more about the Klingon language project 7.1 hours of sleep!!!! It has to do with cooking with a lot of garlic--and going to bed at a reasonable hour. NO ONE should try to combine online Meeting for worship with updating software license info.  I really liked modernized old Classics at the UPres Christmas eve service.

There Will Be Christmas in Grindavik But The Next Eruption is Just Aroun...

6 ish hours of sleep. NO idea why I woke up suddenly around 3. I was freezing and once more sleepwear was added slept soundly for more hours. Opining on the internet is addictive. I think I should figure out a way to get paid. However, I also got hair washed and braided in a way that I was not going to freeze if I went outside, potluck items shopped for and prepped.  Clear beautiful sun. Supposed to get cold again tonight and then rain I still have not gotten brother in law the usual socks and Mom gets balsamic vinegar but it was really nice to go to PCC instead of Amazon fresh.

Tune of the day: O Come All Ye Faithful on the Hurdy Gurdy

Image
4.9 hours of sleep. Trip to Goodwill to let go of some cat stuff that is just taking up a lot of space and can get replaced when I get a new cat. Ham and Turkey left over from party will do well in soup. Another way of saying I would have made different menu choices. Refrigerator is misbehaving and I need to NOT have food frozen for Monday. Probably a first world problem.

Longest Night and again with Annie Lennox God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Live)

Image
Turns out the longest night SHARE / WHEEL memorial for people who died outside in 2023 was twod days ago. We will nope no one else dies outside this year. 5.1 hours of sleep and this in spite of BOTH green tea and hot cocoa at what should be too late an hour last night. Grateful for a NEW SIDEWALK near the McDonalds in my neighborhood And tomorrow I get to move some cat stuff along in the universe. And Move it I MUST. Christmas party was enthusiastic. I would tweak some things--LIKE GET MORE RESIDENTS INVOLVED in some parts of it. But yeah, the song speaks to me. My sister was feeling nostalgic. Maybe she will like it too.

It's about the visuals: Annie Lennox - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Official Video) [HD Remastered]

Image
I love it when artists take on old standards. I don't think I fully appreciate the visuals but I hope others will 4 ish hours of sleep. I don't know what time the fire alarm went off. It sounds like a cat or a small child being tortured. And the verbal message tells everyone to evacuate. Sorry. Not goona happen unless I can smell smoke or can tell there has been an earthquake and then only with caution  figuring I might not be allowed back in very soon. So this morning I rolled over and went back to sleep. And now it's 1:30 pm and I am alive and well and sort of sunbathing by the window in my apartment.  Accomplishments for the morning. --Utterly charmed by my new purple leggings --Succeeded in updating the payment info for a couple key software licenses. --found the orange mandarin I dropped on the white floor. Happy Wednesday world.

No holiday is complete without the Mormon freaking Tabernacle Choir and today's rendition of the Carol of the Bells

Image
4.3 hours of sleep. This is partly because of a short nap when I should have gone to bed and then needing to properly clean and fill the water basin on my CPAP machine. Compline was wonderful. Also, I stumbled across multiple strands of music and was called to pen MORE BLOG POSTS. Disquiet in the universe related to: --Volcano in Greenland. --Flooding in several parts of the US --Courtroom dramas all over the place --attacks on shipping in the Red Sea --Whatever the next hiccup of military engagement in Ukraine is. Now at writing trying to come up with nice ways to say: --This project needs someone who is an accessibility SME --I would be happy to do it but there might be all kinds of conflicts of interest so maybe I can recommend someone --OR I can do a blog post all about "I didn't tell you about my day." And I have marching orders for contributions to keto Christmas. THE VEGGIE TRAY

Nothing like a good Timeline cleanse: Iceland Volcano Erupts Near Grindavik

Image
The world NEEDS THIS. 5.9 hours of sleep. It is SO easy to fall asleep sometimes even when I am not in bed. Solstice is coming and I have blog posts to write. I also have a weird toilet that refuses to stop running water except when I poop A LOT and it decides it will let me flush it. One of the maintenance staff says it has something to do with a pressure valve. I am trying to be amused. I THINK there is a work order....

Not just holiday music exactly: André Jolivet: Bassoon Concerto (1953-1954)

Image
YouTube decided that I needed more bassoon music. I do not disagree. 5.3 hours of sleep. I woke up having to fish for what day it is and what I am supposed to be doing today. I made it out of bed in time for 9 am international worship.  Shower last night after laundry was SOMEWHAT helpful as far as getting to sleep. I will go see Mom even though i am fretting about the declutter effort timeline.

Dueling Jingle Bells

Image
Clearly, I am just overflowing with holiday spirit. ENJOY OR ELSE! 4.3 hours of sleep. A bunch of cleaning and chores but the declutter and achieve an acceptable level of floor cleanliness is still a big leap. But laundry is MUCH better when 1. I DO NOT HAVE TO SHARE the laundry room WITH ANYONE 2. I can do the smart blind people zoom call at the same time.

Trans Siberian Orchestra at Ottawa Canadian Tire Cen...

Image
1. The group name does not as far as I know come from anything specifically to do with Siberia. 2. The Ottawa Canadian Tire Center is SO evocative of the Barnaul Tractor Symphony Hall that the place deserves the band. 3. Thank you YouTube for supplying glorious bangy stuff and light show. 6.3 glorious hours of sleep and while I was lying in bed thinking about going back to sleep or getting up and peeing, a timid knock on the door and AN ELECTRICIAN who wound up replacing two outlets, telling me I do have a loose wire in a circuit and that I need to place another work order about replacing some lights!  One of the replaced outlets has a NEW GFI (ground fault interrupter) switch that I can feel. THe replaced outlet had a GFI switch that I was supposed to reach by inserting something non-metalic into one of the outlets and pressing. Meppps. And tomorrow is MUST CLEAN KITCHEN day. JUst now I would love to be drinking a giant eggnog latte except, apparently due to efforts to unionize, t...

Audio meme of the week: Carol of the Bells here for 5 Cellos, Pentatonix arrangement

Image
Wait'll you hear the rest of what YouTube served up along this line. 5.6 hours of sleep. I turned ingredients into food: kick ass chicken barley vegetable soup. I did not get done everything else I wanted to. I did water my plants and bless my pink Christmas cactus still holding its own. MAYBE yet I will do some LAUNDRY!

It's kicked up Mac and Cheese. SO WHAT? Creamy Roasted Mushroom Baked Pasta

Image
The nutmeg and roasted mushrooms sound YUMMY. 5.6 hours of sleep. More Zoom than sleep.  But productive zoom

Tuesday and the Peterbald Cat Breed

Image
Cat vid of the day 4.6 hours of sleep. Waking time seems to be stable. It's the part about late night snack and then banging around in the kitchen turning ingredients into food and chipping away at clutter issues. No email. Inadequate lighting because of a work order I should have filed 5 years ago. At least no death notices so far today. Happy Tuesday.

News of a passing: I'LL FLY AWAY, THE HE-HAW QUARTET

Image
Probably not the most apt cultural evocation but the theme is apt for morning news of a much loved elder's passing. And THANK HEAVENS for Friends where peculiar honesty is also possible. 6.6 hours of sleep. Heaven. Now can I do it again? Two different Zooms in my brain. One did not happen because of firewall issues. The other is actually Wednesday. Talked to a human instead of firing off email about events Friday. Now several emails to fire off but HOPEFULLY less insufferable and more sensitive to people in training. People in training seems to be a recurring theme in lots of places in life. It's a little like continuing revelation. A little bit.

The joy of a 5 year old running in the hallway

4.7 hours of sleep A WHOLE List of to-dos so the title may be enough. Very grateful for sun even though I begged off from Mom visit AND made an Amazon fresh order because of the rain yesterday. Now I am waiting for order to arrive and trying to make lists of lots of tasks.

Sleepy is good in monsoons.

Image
It's the one with white blossoms time to bloom. 4ish hours apparently though the CPAP quit in the middle of the night and I WILL track that down this week. Major soggy pukey action. Add a badly needed but still ill-timed sidewalk improvement project, wider sidewalks on the other side of the street. Duck more of the car splashes. Deal with the SDOT made it worse intersection. But out of oomph to go fetch yougurt and spinach. I CAN COPE. I turned ingredients into food except I did not do so well about the cornbread and it wasn't just being a cowboy about what to add. BUt things did not get mixed well so when it came out of the oven.... Bleeping Autocorrect

Scientific Reasons Your Cat Sleeps With You

Image
This video evoked kind of a "Well DUH" reaction. 6.4 hours of sleep. Now if I can repeat that.

BREAKFAST, whether one sleeps or not.

Image
Honestly, I just love this guy's speech patterns. He uses a whole bunch of condiments I don't have and I am often not organized enough to do even this level of prep but I am enjoying thinking about these menu items 4.4 hours of sleep. Some meetings are SO exhausting even when it's a relief to talk about things on my mind. I am proud of myself because today I installed one of my full spectrum light bulbs. Even if I only use when it's daylight anyway, it felt SO helpful. I talked to my building manager and I feel better because i have a plan.

Rocked out Movie trailer for HANUMAN CHALISA due out 12 Jan 2024 | P...

I went looking for something to clear my head. Versions I previously linked are now digitally fenced off by the copyright police and I do not have time wander down every rabbit hole possible with search engines. Plus this item definitely meets my minimum daily requirement for bangy stuff 4.7 hours of sleep. The only reason I did NOT do more Zoom than sleep today is because I skipped TWO hours of my regular Zoom habits. Other than that, for amusement, meet the exciting intersection of digital inclusion and jury summons. Previous information is that something MIGHT start Monday. Today's email has a docket number and a more specific questionnaire. I hope honest answers just get me bounced from the pool. Otherwise it's jury selection by Zoom Monday morning. Ain't technology grand.

When tired of my porridge options: 4 Quick & Easy Korean Breakfast!

Image
These recipes I might actually make 5.6 hours of sleep. A text exchange which will necessitate more conversations about Tramp, the Latin letter transliteration of Orange Jesus' last name in Russian. I find this reality apt and DEEPLY amusing.  Today is Nephew's birthday, celebrated with greasy teriyaki. Mleah. Happy atmospheric river.

Powerful Cat-provided Protection.

Image
This item was clearly written by some kind of cat ministry of propaganda. I do not particularly believe every word of it and I think MANY cats would scoff at some of the assertions. But it will have to do for kitty endorphins today. I cannot let myself get a new cat until I declutter. That will be awhile. 5.7 hours of sleep. Probably it will be Wednesday now before I get to more cleanup. Uggggh! Today's "triumph" involved returning a home internet device. FINALLY it worked. Other than that bus ride in rain. The last I think of my beef barley soup. I am a GOOD cook. Happy Monday. I wish I did not wind up with so much to blog about.

If bamboo shoots are good enough for a panda they are good enough for me. AUTHENTIC HOT and SOUR Soup Recipe! RESTAURANT QUALITY!

Image
Late night food videos are SO soothing whether or not one actually cooks the items. This soup sounds REALLY good, not only because of a fun bamboo comment. 4,2 hours of sleep. PROGRESS on de clutter. More of De clutter to come.

Why I am spending a sunny day on freaking Zoom

Image
3 pm and already getting dark 5.2 hours of sleep. Fridge is doing its Freeze everything mode. A little inconvenient when i want to mix milk with one of my cans of espresso. I feel virtuous that I got a lot of crap ready to trash. Unfortunately I have MORE  And after two zoom's I decided to GO TO THE CHRISTMAS PARTY.

Total Pedestrian Kill Zone

Image
A now vacant lot that probably will soon grow housing and HOPEFULLY will also develop some serious improvements in ped environment 5.7 hours of sleep. Time for a shower before a 10 am zoom the above photo is not irrelevant to and I do not CARE for the moment whether readers have any clue about the reference. Also not entirely apologetic about the title because it has everything to do with equity, build environment, exposure to risk and also Oh Good Grief personal decision-making.including crossing a monster busy street with no traffic signal. MUCH anxiety about things to do with needed cleaning in apartment. Probably tomorrow I will stay home and wrangle clutter. I will also stay out of the rain. A friend says I am a badass for doing 3 shots in one day. All of the injection sites hurt a little, the RSV one more than the others.
