Only 83 degrees!

4 ish hours of sleep in bed and two dozy naps beforehand don't quite count. I made the grownup decision to try to watch all of the last J6 hearing. Even at 1.5x speed that was a lot. Have cat sitter. Have jangly nerves. Need to do laundry.  No pictures because i need to figure out something on my phone. It's supposed to cool off tomorrow finally.

Day 5 of heat and 108 pages of Powerpoint.

5+ hours of sleep. I printed all 108 pages of Powerpoint program for next week's trip. I also auditioned cat carer.  and washed my hair. High excitement. And the cat weighs in on heat-related matters   ugh day 5 of #HeatEmergency #wawx i can't believe the human passed up a new box fan when she had to be out yesterday! #Caturday pic.twitter.com/MEabvmaiYq — Dorene Cornwell (@DoreneFC) July 30, 2022

Toothpaste in excess and even worse the WRONG brand

Made it to 5 hours of sleep with a go back to bed increment. Good thing I checked both calendar and reminder email. Eye appointment was earlier than my brain thought. Not real crazy about having to deal with a parking garage to get to new office but trying to make it work. Walking to the bus I was just glad to be alive and mobile. I am now officially older than both grandmothers, my dad, and his younger sister were when they died.. Mostly being out in the breeze was lovely in spite of heat but I was still drained when I got home in spite of trying to hydrate correctly. Bus plus light rail plus bus and I had time for teriyaki for lunch before appointment.   Things are stable. And I have now replenished the toothpaste supply, with my preferred brand even.

Extreme Heat Warning day 2

A little over 4 hours of sleep. I need to plan my day to be able to go back to bed more often when I wake up after a shorter night than I want. It doesn't appear to be as hot around me as promised. the 80's are tolerable and it's definitely better to be out walking around than just sitting. Special grumbles for AC I don't get to control at the computer lab. And we celebrate shots like this via Twitter. Trying to do silent worship in the not silent laundry room--not a thing one should try

almost 5 hours of sleep.  More was needed but the day's techie zoom was really valuable and so Laundry needed to happen so I can go out of town AGAIN next week. Get the laundry done early in the heatwave and late at night when there is less competition for machines. Make note of issues to bring up at tonight's community meeting. One washer does not spin out correctly. There are only 3 dryers but the washing machine cycle is shorter than needed dryer time so there are backups. Do not try to add midweek worship with Kyiv Friends to this circus.

Hiding from the heat and the heat wave hasn't even officially started

about 5 hours of sleep. More would have been good and maybe doable before 10 am but it didn't happen. All my devices and signins demand I Deal With something before I can go on to actually doing something. This includes some hiccup about posting photos such as they are from my phone. Happy #ADA32 First world problems

We may be dorks but we're all dorks together

A decent six hours of sleep.  More would have been nice.  Not eating ANYTHING for a few hours before bed is the way to go. The fam's birthday THANG involved picnic tables a wheelchair and a walker, bus noise and impatience trying to achieve takeout in the line at Chipotle. My sister is in the teeth pulled to get dentures phase and I forgot to ask about her foot.  But we were together gosh dang it. Nephew needed to tell me all about his car themed social media sponsorships and I decided to bypass some questions about future. Also the banana nut bread icecream definitely lived up to my I only like banana flavor from real bananas or in banana bread rule. There is supposed to be a picture here to help evoke bus noises. That is not happening due to technical difficulties.

Birthday celebration--at the fam's convenience

5 ish hours of sleep.  cherries and peanut butter pretzels probably would have been a better idea earlier in the day. THe fam wants to celebrate my birthday. Good for them. I think I do less well about reciprocating but scheduling.... Happy Birthday me AGAIN. That is all for now.

Minutes? Resolutions?

5 hours of sleep. We will not discuss when the 5 hours started but there was a nap and then some Twitter and ... My zoom world is still debriefing both quaker minutes and blindness organization resolutions. Contest about level of vehemence. Also a clump of people of my generation all lamenting the fragility of many youngers.

October? Mark Calendars for things in OCTOBER ALREADY: flash mob from a previous year

Image
First  the dance music then the sleep report: about 5 hours after falling asleep at the computer. Insurrection hearings are addictive and provocative. What is anyone who loves our country supposed to do with summer after summer of hearings: Nixon? Iran Contra? 9/11? January 6  PS White cane day is October 15.

Hearing voices and having to fetch groceries

Image
5+ hours of sleep. composting ouches?  Some other space. Getting to do a cool training designed specifically for blind people. So nice not to have to figure out stuff ad hoc. Whole new dimensions of hearing voices. The visual of the day dedicated to enthusiastically and also skeptically appreciating grocery delivery--axcept for the part about deliveries getting dropped unceremoniously at the back door instead of coming all the way to my apartment. Do not get me started about the hassles of complaining to customer service Morning grumpiness and first world problem

Elevator Alert Zen

Image
From the balcony 9:15 pm Barely 4 hours of sleep and no go back to bed margin.  The title is from clearing email last night when there were not braincells for more. Usually there is a pair for every outage. Elevator outages are a weird thing to track.

Vitamin DDDDDDDD

6.5 hours of precious sleep. THANK GOD for a going back to bed window. Frenzy is SO much more manageable with enough sleep. My therapist is fine with the uncombed look. The cat did her demand morning cuddles until it's time to bite thing on camera. I am still figuring out new  laptop and I supposed I could just get a USB keyboard to simplify navigation. No Idid not stay up all night watching vitamin D and COVID videos but there are plenty more where these come from especially if a non-medical person also wants to geek out on immunology and virology. Christmas in July? Children Go Where I Send Thee

Image
Respectable almost 6 hours of sleep Go back to bed but get up when the openings of yesterday compel one. Look, okay, the music here is not standard Quaker fare but it's better than a certain CO politician hawking her book and talking about six years of freeing women in prison from shame by bringing them to Jesus. And yes, the CA All State girls' choir popped to the top of today's Gogle search. Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick Children Go where I send thee The Bishops Children Go where I send thee

Bliss. Coconut Bliss--and Lentil Burgers

Image
About 5 hours of sleep. More would definitely have been good but who the BLEEP starts Worship groups at 8:30 am? I do in fact have more to life than food, but if I have not gotten around to proper birthday ice cream and someone brings over a whole pint of salted caramel chocolate bits coconut ice cream and I have not exactly gotten to lunch since beet chips don't count, PARTY. and Listen to the latest tales of woe and intrigue. And the below recipe is a wholesome alternative to nattering about news.

Properly clothed just in time to be late

Respectable 6 hours of sleep  Showered  with hair washed AND dressed but a tad late for a very well-done interest group More to say but not here

Dragging by 10 am

4 hours of sleep. Bless your heart cat. Couldn't you have let me sleep another hour so I would be better rested, still manage a shower  and also make it to my very cool prescription label accessibility advocacy zoom at 9 am  Oh, you think I am misunderstanding cat rules? Welcome to morning. Happy Birthday to me.

A shiny new door handle and how NOT to do grocery delivery

Image
About 4 hours of sleep. The culprit: a long snarky blog post about OJ, COVID and a lack of explosives. Annual session opening worship was lovely. It is so nice to see people together masked. The shiny new door handle is for my now former next door neighbor. Also in the news: the return of lobby vending machines. Card only and card reader out of reach of....Accessibility advocacy needs never cease And NO, delivering my groceries to just inside the back door when no one is supposed to be able to get in, only go out is NOT acceptable. Good thing I have a contraband shopping care. Shopping cart with groceries to be transported.

Good to be back with Ukrainian worship

Image
Solid SIX hours of sleep.  More would definitely not be terrible but I also decided that a blog post about Access needs needs to be better centered than I was going to be after worship with Ukrainians. No late night snacks but also not enough exercise. I am glad to be back in the land of masking and social distancing. Neighbor headed to assisted living feels like a bid transition even though I hope it also brings him easier social contact. I also made it to Broadband breakfast and discussion of broadband in Utah. Party on. So glad to reach out in sleep and find cat

Insurrection hearing and freshly mown grass

About 4.5 hours of sleep plus an earlier nap backed up by veggie chips and M&Ms Fear of Covid-palooza fading but I am glad I am not going to try to travel this weekend too. Cat also is extremely glad. Reminder: I would not have made it through pandemic without cat, a point to hold while a distraught person called moments after her cat died. Also still putting brain around next door neighbor moving on. Today's insurrection hearing featured several "I regret it" voices. Maybe that is a start on a path to healing. Maybe. Another day of headache over and around my right eye. I don't think it's eye pressure and nothing attracted attention on last scan. Grrrr Now I have Stuff To Do and the freshly mown grass is a little distracting even behind the air conditioning.

The Monday after+ access needs

Image
Somewhere over 5 hours of sleep total. This includes 1.5 hours napping in a chair, about 45 minutes half asleep before getting up, eating breakfast and having enough sugar buzz to go back to sleep for another 3 hours. Note to self: when people ask about access needs acknowledge that FOLLOWUP is on point. Part of sleep disruption was watching the dawn light creep in and grab big chunks of content that need more interaction than on e 5-minute scenario in Oops Ouch Whoa world..  The "Oh I tested positive" tidings from ACB Convention have slowed to a trickle and Twitter also has comments about NFB Covid-Palooza. Yeah. And everyone seems to be recovering quickly. True confession: I still have not tested AT ALL. Wear mask. Blame the media reports and KC Public Health reports that one might test negative and still be positive. Blame BA5. Blame the afterthoughts aspect of the first out ofteh chute approach to accessibility. PS It's nice to be back in a place where masking is way...

The first banana in days

Image
A respectable six hours of sleep.  I am not charmed that Amazon fresh now wants $4.99 in delivery fee to deliver at the hours I prefer. Today's driver is also very new and could not figure out how to key in my apartment number on the entry keypad and or could not read signs to get to my apartment. I will update directions in app and cheerlead. Delivery person is VERY new. And I have bananas without having to go forage live. Still decompressing from the week. And Judith Heumann ROCKS as a banquet speaker Also still collecting notices of people I have been near testing positive for COVID. No. I have not tested at all yet. For grins I now have a new tool to learn--on 3 devices. Let's see how it goes. Now THREE MORE DAYS of stuff to listen to and to vote on. Quaker heresy: Roberts Rules can sometimes be REALLY helpful for structuring the different categories of things people say. Of course people learn by doing it "wrong" and slowly figuring out what is or is not in order...

Home from Covid-palooza

Image
7 hours of sleep night before last Good thing because I took the Light Rail plus bus home rolling luggage. 6 hours last night. Cat is extravagantly happy to see me. Go cat. Tonight I summoned enough energy to run my bedding through dryer and change sheets. Laundry room was completely empty so I should also have tackled the trip laundry. That did not happen. Follow up call said at least 40 of the 500 in person at convention tested positive for COVID. That was before at least 5 people I spent varying amounts of time with told me today they also tested positive. I have home tests that are hard for blind people to use. There are now also accessible version as long as providing a whole bunch of data and connecting by blue-tooth sounds fun. Morning sneezes no worse than average. Cough all the time cough no worse than average. I WILL continue to mask up and be cautious about hanging out indoors with anyone. Thank you Eppley Airport: I was beginning to fear that postcards are now a last centur...

Three more nights away

Image
holding steady about 5-6 hours of sleep and not tracking the day ai got about 4 hours total and another 7 that night after flight Body is going to bed earlier on clock than usual but not sleeping any longer and taking awhile to fall asleep. Roommate is a very light sleeper. She says it is from many yaers working on call critical care I think she needs a guide dog but among other things I think she is afraid of being marked as blind. Not my problem to solve but she's a dog person and the guide dog school reps in the vendor rom have plenty of experience dealing with people who have balance issues. Hot here outside and overcooled inside interesting sessions and plenty of mobility chaos as everyone finds their wat around. I gave people exactly the wrong direction and I feel silly.  Cat sitter texts daily reports. Cat  has moved from being willing to be petted to visibly disappointed that the person at the door isn't me. Poor kitty had to surevive fireworks all alone. View out the ...
