TedX talks on anything: Me, myself and the upright bass | Adam Ben Ezra

Image
Sweet story 6.3 hours of sleep. I did enough laundry to change my sheets. I will take a shower and wash hair. Still trash and scrubbing floor need to happen. Happy September soon

Footwear! The right footwear always improves my view of capitalism

Image
Fabulous new Dr. Marten T-straps With TREAD  3.2 hours of sleep or something in bed and a couple more in the chair. I should have gone back to bed. Memorial was beautiful. Catholic rite. Sweet music. Touching memories of the deceased and lovely prayer. Home in time to juggle a couple things that will turn into weekend to-do's  Impromptu opening day ride to Lynnwood, friends glad for a surprise visit, enough festivity to notice and want to get out of as quickly as possible. Thai food and a car ride home for more chatting! More warm weather tomorrow. Will I start laundry or just youtube it for the rest of the evening?

Something light and slightly silly Flight of the Bumble-Bee for two Double Basses

Image
4.6 hours of sleep. Two people not at a meeting because of an emergency Turns out the emergency was at the building of one person zooming from their apartment. Various media and social media sources say no risk to the public, but neighbors still rattled and triggered anyway. Also miscommunication left two people trying to meet at the wrong coffee houses.  And the weather was seductive: dress for the cool of the morning and oops too warm in full sun. Clearly I am blase and not rattled by said emergency above except friend who lives in the building said things that made me think shooter is another resident. Oh happy day. So anyway some bumblebees

The "Jaws" theme on the octobasse

Image
Time to kick the Rasputin habit for awhile. To my knowledge, certain movie soundtracks, I think it unlikely that sharks in the wild can be rendered with this line, but I leave that to better experts 4.2 hours of sleep. Tomorrow I don't have to be anywhere until 11 and I can Zoom in my sleepwear if I choose. The weather is a temperature yo-yo and my various AC situations are unhelpful. More to say but computer lab in use in the daytime  today were an impedance.

Teal blue oxfords and a FUN arrangement: Bony M - Rasputin (cover) - Ukulele Play Along - Music At Green Gables

Image
I find the play along angle just glorious and I don't care if this earworm is getting old for anyone. I consider it a wholesome alternative to a LOT of absolute DRECK in my info streams 6.3 hours of SLEEP and with luck I will conspire to do the same tonight with a twist. Stay tuned about the twist because I need to write email for about 3 meetings. Spent most of my therapy in back and forth about hope and a certain convention. Also hula and how a crowd can make grief safe even if it's just tears and few words. Lovely except for all the things that feel discombobulated. Now, on to LAUNDRY, absolutely predatory credit card practices, physical inaccessibility and other matters in need of tact and gallantry. Happy Wednesday

Whole building instrument: Pipe Organ Master Turns Classic Song into Epic Improvisation

Image
Do I want a pipe organ to turn a whole cathedral into a musical instrument? Do I want to make music with hands and feet at the same time? Anyway  enjoy organ improv gah. Only 3.4 hours of sleep in bed. I could have gone back to bed and should have considering the dozing in a chair. Happy Monday. Time for grownup things like PAPERWORK But it's a new week and supposed to be warm again. Happy fall?

Worship Sleep Feast. Have music Chôro na Clave de Dó - Osvaldo Lacerda

Image
Fun to know the bassoonist at least online in Quaker spaces. If YouTube is any indicator there are lots of interesting things happening in the bassoon world in Brazil. 4.6 hours of sleep. War on my mind. Hence the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists T-shirt. Also I will do the next increment of laundry soon so it won't stay dirty long in case I want to wear it again. I finally just bit the bullet and ordered some new shoes online. Dr. Marten T-straps I am reasonably confident based on past experience will fit. Now to get feet to an actual store: hoping for some ordinary oxfords but maybe with interesting texture. Did a good bit of cooking yesterday. Sauteed cabbage, also quinoa porridge with coconut milk. Decadent. Using up the dates I fret about eating uncooked. BAD QUAKER for listening to bassoon YouTube while worshipping on Zoom, but I have A LOT TO DO and am otherwise not settling.

Possible a reprise from the land of extreme musical instruments: Amazing Grace, Amazing Octobass

Image
6.3 hours of sleep! On top of getting about half the laundry done. Not much else except buy stamps, drink an almond milk hazelnut latte and chew over politics with my blind politics groupie zoom. Oops. Scrubbed of the top of the stove and immediately started getting in dirty again and started some food for the week. So not as lazy as first glance. I like the COOL and don't mind needing the raincoat. September rains seem to be coming early and I need some closed shoes. I HOPE I can shot in person because mail order is not making me super happy. And I am contemplating trip to Princeton

Extreme Cat cuteness: When Your Cat Become a Little Guard 💕

Image
4.2 hours of sleep Going back to bed would have been good but instead social media until time to get ready to go to the Luau at Mom's retirement place. Yeah, it rains in HI too but probably is warmer. Lunch was served in the drive around. Eating and hula performance happened in the regular dining room. I could not really see the dancers and mom and I agreed, by the end we had had enough of the drumming. Laundry time. Half the laundry tonight. the rest later. Time to wash the sweaters and a couple other items. Time to find some dog walker lights for my shooes. PARTY?

Childless Cat Lady Timeline Cleanse Vid: Meet the New Black KITTEN on the Homestead

Image
5.4 hours of sleep Time to go back to bed AND get a shower before a VERY productive 11:00 am Zoom. Not enough exercise and to easy to skip daily stretches. But Happy Thursday with a LONG to-do list

Sign Language Interpreter as cult icon Måns Zelmerlöw – Heroes | WINNER 2015 Eurovision Song Contest

Image
This sign language interpreter seems to have gotten his own YouTube channel. Hopefully this will solve a hiccup where I previously posted this video. I could not tell you which national sign language he uses though he and the performer are from Swedish 4.2 hours of sleep. I had too much to write but the security guard was in a hurry and I quit Wednesday worship with Kyiv friends early. Next week MAYBE I will just do worship at home. I hate the tired feeling especially since the weekly 9 am zoom was less interesting today than some days. But last night I also did not get to all of my to-do list because I watched KICKASS convention speeches. Happy Wednesday

Need Dylan now? I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now

Image
No attempt to groom a twitchy St. Bernard. No video of the sort of protest where if you put up several layers of fencing, someone will just try to get past them. Neither screeds about the former president or prayers that he land himself someplace where he can be prayed over multiple times / day 5.2 hours of sleep and up in time to get a shower before a quarterly Zoom Another dang meeting that leaves me with a TON of things to follow up on. I am not offering one computer lab the grace I aspire to. I think that means there needs to be another volunteer so I can deal with all the stuff that comes up. And thank heaven for the small trove of chocolate espresso beans I remembered having in my purse. Makes up for my inadvertant attempt to wear my lunchtime squash lentils rice lunch all over my pants. Happy Tuesday.

COME THOU FOUNT - LINDSEY STIRLING & BLIND PIANO PRODIGY KUHA'O CASE IMP...

Image
Youtube is somehow being nostalgic or something, sending me LOTS of music and other vids from my past. I am not sure whether I have previously viewed this one. I also am not sure why it matters that the pianist is blind. LOTS of musicians improvise by ear. 4.2 hours of sleep. I missed my chance to go back to bed which I should have done because I had no commitments before an eye appointment at 3:15. Ordinary pressure check with dilation and the opportunity to make a machine chase my eye around until I could find the green star amid some flashing red and then hold still enough for their picture. So much eyeball fun.

Also in contention for EarWorm of the week The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi - Leaning On The Everlasting Arms

Image
4.2 hours of sleep. Look at land of tiny print for new CPAP. Mleah. Made some lentil rice etc. menu thing that will feed me for a few days. Not enough exercise but tomorrow I go out again. Luau at Mom's Friday so I begged off today. Gratitudes: COMPRESSION SOCKS. My legs where so tired when I finally put some on. Also the third Sunday organ recital at St Mark's

Vying for Earworm of the week: ZO-BRASS - Rivers of Babylon

Image
3.4 hours of sleep. Another 45 minutes dozing off when going back to bed before a 9 am zoom seemed infeasible. Yes of COURSE I was still running on adrenalin when the 3 hour meeting really took 4 hours. THANK YOU to everyone for bearing with my need to speak. Speaking of running on adrenalin MAYBE get AWAY from the computer. DO NOT read email about another roiling controversy. Who says I have any self-discipline. I did make my bank deposit, find some food to take to the blind people picnic and make it to the picnic by late afternoon. Not as cool as previous years, but I had time to stop for bananas over my bus transfer. Lovely thunderstorm. Still wired but I will TRY just to go to bed SOON

Marching band from somewhere where people speak Portuguese, which I OCCASIONALLY understand a little. Rivers of Babylon

Image
Ear Worm of the week, for some reason popular among marching bands around the world. 3.2 hours of sleep and another hour falling asleep in the chair. Two intense and personal zooms and a trip to the bank. Note: still didn't deal with new CPAP. Cooler weather and I LOVE my new bedroom fan. Looking forward to a long zoom and a picnic party tomorrow

Cats Being Badass: A Tribute

Image
This  vid is longer than my average choices. The narrator uses a lot of language I would not necessarily use and it's pretty visually overwhelming. But I need baddassery! 3.2 hours of sleep before I got up, peed, sat down in chair and fell asleep for another 1.5 hours. Bleah. New season of potatoes are in stores and I am loving the flavor of the bag I just bought. Cool enough to make potato strips and also to roast some chunks of yams. Lovely. And my laptop with screen too small and faint especially with window light is not making me happy. I would go hide in computer lab but the space is being used for a class. Good for them. Vexing for me. Gig job interview in a bit. Not staying in scope is my superpower. Let's hope for breaking up idea rampages into meaningful bites. Messy desk and floor weigh on mind but at a certain point, one gets dressed for the day and saves the mess for another day.

A random City Council committee hearing or ....Ra Ra Rasputin - Brass Quintet

Image
The internet has still not told me what was Justice Thomas' fascination with the palace where Rasputin, Christian mystic to tsar Nicholas II and his wife was murdered, but OH the versions of the song being served up. Please note, another #pandemic era one person miracle performance. 5.2 hours of sleep. I made it out of bed in time for weekly Zoom, this week a panel of lawyers with varying opinions about the Supreme Court and matters relevant to the internet. Tell more stories. Energizing. Will I do laundry or will I let that slide another day???? I am glad it's cool enough to wear pants. Also YouTube happy, once one watches on City Council hearing to serve up even MORE. Today's gem: public comment period at the Parks, Public Utilities, and Technology Committee. Comments featured an announcement that the Community Surveillance working group needs at least one more member from an under-represented community, but probably not the two members of underrepresented communities the...

It's the NEWS. Time to Pray Down to The River to Pray (Four Part Harmony) - Southern Raised

Image
This one just seems like a good idea considering multiple strands of news. 4.2 hours of sleep An in-person meeting with ALL kinds of things to follow up on in cluding the virtuous feeling of EXERCISE getting to and fro on the bus. Things that hurt less when I get adequate sleep are hurting.

More #ChildlessCatLadies content. kitty roamer big purr boy visits yard

Just in time for the end of the Paris Olympics New safety instructions | Air France

Image
5,5 hours of sleep. Tomorrow I get to deal with new mask, as well as chores I STILL am stalling about. 2 LIVELY zooms related to queer / alphabet soup people and different forms of affiliation. Happy Sunday

'All campaign all the time: Cat ladies' rally for VP Kamala Harris, pounce at JD Vance

Image
5.0 hours of sleep. NEW CPAP arrived. It is even smaller and quieter than the old one, not even to imagine the one my dad used 30 years ago. So many pages of tiny print but I am in a Me do it mood so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Youth. Hope. Rasputin at the 2019 band concert.

Image
Play one Rasputin video and oh heavens does YouTube send me more. We need a break from #ChildlessCatlady themes anyway. No, I will NOT grab every high school musical performance ever committed to YouTube, but this one really makes me smile. 4.5 hours of sleep. 11 am was almost too early to agree to meet a friend for coffee. REALLY good to see her and to get out. She is dealing with lots of flavors of algia and itis and the cafe where we met now puts all the food options behind the counter so you have to ask for them. Next time I will remember specifically to ask for a breakfast burrito. It's good to be out and to have exercise. I get out and interact with humanity much less than I did before pandemic and I forget how exhilarating that is in spite of foggy vision. Today it's foggy vision AND wildfire haze just to underscore planetary fragility. Did I mention I HATE wildfire smoke. The weather app says low end of moderate concern but I keep having to pour artificial tears into my...

Another round with this version: Leaning On The Everlasting Arms | In A Rustic Shed | Official Music Vide...

Image
8.5 EIGHT plus hours of sleep. Going back to bed mattered. The new fan mattered. And tonight my eyes and nostrils are on fire. And the AQI is barely into the moderate zone. Bleah.

No Cat Lady Vibe: Leaning On The Everlasting Arms | In A Rustic Shed | Official Music Vide...

Image
I think this is one of the more dirgelike rendition that YouTube sent me. I will play it after I publish to be sure. Oops. WRONG. One of the more energetic versions I found. Only half the song and there is that fascination with male voices so I will definitely take it. 5.8 hours of sleep. Missed a morning zoom. Did one Zoom on my phone due to computer labe technical difficulties..  Did two others at home. I unpacked an Amazon order and now have a new bedroom-sized fan and a fresh red tape section on one of my canes and another one that needs it. Happy sunny Wednesday.

Today's edition of cat lady: I adopted a hallucinating cat. Here's what that's like.

Image
#CrazyCatLady #ChildlessCatLady Mood: new VP candidate! 4.1 hours of sleep. FINALLY the right button to click and MAYBE get a new CPAP. Inspiration Porn cat adoption edition: Woman Adopts Cat and Comes Back to Shelter for His Blind Brother

Image
The #DChildlessCatLady meme is BAaaaaCK 4ish hours of sleep. Three rounds of educational zoom and a trip to the coop for bananas and cruciferous vegetables. White bean soup coming up.... Tomorrow I MUST deal with CPAP stuff.

OMG: what could be worse than Sudoku during worship? Alan Jackson - Leaning On The Everlasting Arms (Live)

Image
Laying off the #ChildlessCatLady rants. Time for a new earworm. Zoom worship (in one's sleepwear. Urk) offers SO many more options for scandalous behavior, like for instance like looking up gospel bits. This version is missing half the words but it seems much nicer than other versions that sound like dirges. 5.5 hours of sleep which might be why I am so full of piss and vinegar Need another round of Help desk Barbie about text messaging Barbie franchise needs Help Desk Barbie and Olympic shot putter barbie. And I need to shower and clean my house. Living LARGE

For trly out of this world thinking: Brian Cox Warn: Betelgeuse Supernova Explosion Imminent

Image
No safety vids.  No #ChildlessCatLady vibe Just a possibly impending supernova and kind of dry delivery Not much sleep. A couple hours in a chair, an hour in bed. Two zooms. Typing tasks and of course take out trash and clean floor. At this point chores may have to wait.

As much of a trip to India as I can muster right now. Safety Mudras - Air India's Inflight Safety Video

Image
Laying off the #ChildlessCatLady meme for awhile aind instead paying homage to: --YouTube for deciding if I want one flight safety vid, clearly, I want MORE --Various threads of Indian heritage and diaspore helping roil the fever swamps of the internet --My friend N who I say a prayer for every time I think of her and definitely do not call often enough 5.9 hours of sleep. the next round of PHONE CALLS about a new CPAP. I am making progress in the form of new things to sign into and new pieces of data to update as soon as I repeat the signin process. Note to self: deal with DOR too. Now, dead last of all the committees, I owe the world a committee report for tomorrow's WCB board meeting. Happy Friday.

Wyoming whenever we can: Cheyenne and her Wyoming town kittens

Image
Somewhere around 6ish hours of sleep but too few in bed and I should have just gone back to bed instead of plonkin in my chair. Fun morning. Probably last zoom call with one of the Princeton students I am mentoring for summer internships. This year I have two, both remote and they are so much more interactive than the two I had previously. I HOPE I have been a positive influence on both. Stay tuned for the other one. Other than that a weird time warp: KSM pled guilty exactly 20 years after I spent summer recovering from first detached retina and listening to the Hamilton commission and thinking OF COURSE there was more than was being said.  That, hydrangeas, and fighter planes practicing for an air show kind of cover the day and BOY do I have things to work at.
