Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity via Holst and Bassoon Planet

Image
Random post-pandemic observation: the fashion of one player laying down multiple tracks is an artistic artifact of enforced isolation. Wonder how the guy playing the contrabassoon made it onto the video.  4.9 hours of sleep. Not enough exercise again. Pedal the under-the-desk exerciser some more. Try to summon calm and get ready for ZOOM events tomorrow.

I need more sleep but here we are" Understanding Microaggressions

Image
4.5 hours of sleep. But first I made kick ass pinto sausage corn stew. This morning I  Watered plants. I Looked at schedule for next week's Zoom o rama Blind people are starting business meeting at 8:15 am Central Time, in other words before God herself is awake. FGC Daily Bible study starts at 8:15 Pacific time. Afternoons are less conflicted, somewhat. And tonight I spaced out the correct time for an NPYM related event and first I need to answer some emails but even before that I need to finish a prep task for tomorrow morning. Life is good--as long as I don't look too much at mutant headlines--and I have plenty to ear.

Possibly I needed this toward bedtime: A. Vivaldi - Concerto in c minor RV. 168, arr. by Kristian Oma Rønnes

Image
The opening visuals look sort of car and mafia like to me. It makes MUCH more sense to realize that probably it's a pipe organ. But note that it is Poland and I will resist commentary about doing laundry with Prigozhin especially since today's news is that the plot thickens considerably even if internet chatterers can't agree about many dimensions of the thickening. 3.9 hours of sleep. I NEED some kind of clock that will tell me it's okay to go back to sleep for a spell. Also I am silly enough to try to do some paperwork things even midweek before a long weekend. Oh Joy.

Tired of coup attempts her and there: Going for PIZZA in Iceland

Image
No Kale chips today. Not even dried beet chips yet. Just Pizza in iceland--with jam. 5.3 hours of sleep 4 loads of wash The laundry facilities were comparatively well-behaved. and the temerity to include writing up accessibility issues as part of a contract about ta-da writing up accessibility issues.

Iceland videos and E. Grieg - Holberg Suite - Prelude - arr. by Kristian Oma Rønnes

Image
continuing with the Nordic theme, YouTube sent me some lovely videos that totally make me want to visit Iceland just to soak in geothermal pools and live in buildings with warm hardwood floors and heated towel racks. An excellent contrast to coup attempts here and there.        4.2 hours of sleep. Up in time to prep my demo about accessibility features built into Windows. Also known as figure it out as we go along because it's all so new to everyone.

Food of the day is Celery with E. Grieg - Anitra's Dance, Peer Gynt Suite no. 1, arr. by Kristian Oma R...

Image
For the record I remember the Peer Gynt suite as considerably more dour than this movement. It's the sort of perfect midsummer time where long Norwegian days and dancing in the sunshine are highly appropriate so maybe transcribing this for bassoon ensemble is what did it. 6.0 hours of sleep. Trip to see Mom after I chopped and froze all the celery in yesterday's grocery order. Mom and I had on our minds: socks and filing down toenails in order not to rip socks, how to find the emoji library on Mom's phone and a walk in the garden. I came home and promptly augmented one of my canned tuna salads with celery, heated it all in the microwave, and since I at least briefly have fresh roma tomatoes one of those too. NO, I really do not have anything intelligent to say about the coup in Russia. Well the opera ain't over until the fat lady sings, and I don't know which fat lade still needs to sing.

No Kale. Tired of Kale The Cape - Exotic Low Woodwinds

Image
6.0 hours of sleep. Woot. Still one hunk of bureacracy I need to slog through.  But even though having a stock of dried kale and beet chips will be good for upcoming zoom events, I decided to bite the bullet and do a monthly Amazon fresh order, have some fresh stuff and thus have to put away a ton of groceries. One virtue moment. Change the cat box. The other: take out recycling. A TON of flattened Amazon delivery boxes. I am glad cardboard is recyclable and merely f;attening the boxes and recycling is more virtuous than stacking them for decades. Still I think the trees probably have better things to do with themselves than get turned into boxes. And yes I am probably repetitve  but cope. Now for some nice Youtube vids about the latest from Russia and hopefully a shower and shampoo. But I had too much fun chatting with blind folk and laundry will have to wait.

More Kale chips and The Bare Necessities - Bassoons

Image
4.6 hours of sleep plus whatever time in chair falling asleep over videos. We will not discuss from when to when The kale chips are provisions for a couple weeks of upcoming zoom. Let's hear it for Quaker process AND for bilingual Roberts Rules of Order and reasonable schedule and the opportunity for people to learn PROCESS.

More kale chips and Why Ancient People Didn't See the Color Blue

Image
The great news: watch this video and youtube will also deliver you to one that argues with it. 6.0 hours of sleep. we will not discuss from when to when or unintentionally disturbing someone else strugglung at the same hour. I love my kale chips and I am already tired of them. I love delivery and feel embarrassed about the number of boxes even though I am way better about just flattening them and recycling than my dad the fastidious collector and stacker of boxes in boxes. Such things we struggle to overcome. Now about paperwork to get paid for stuff.

Kale chips, powdered milk mochas and puppy dog socks along with "Call Me Maybe" arrangement for bassoon, clarinet, and oboe

Image
4.9 hours of measured sleep plus some more in the chair with the cat in my arms. It helps to do Kyiv worship at home with all the whines of home laptop. Other than that I am feeling grateful for kale chips, powdered milk mochas, and compression socks with puppy dogs on them. I probably would not have bought them but sometimes one should just embrace what comes in a grab bag. Happy Wednesday.

After the holiday mashup The Rasmus & Kalush Orchestra: In The Shadows/Stefania-mashup LIVE PERFO...

Image
4.9 hours of sleep. Better than night before last. Earlier to bed AND there would have been time to go back to bed. But thank you hot porridge and bizzaro weather. Brain wants to be on holiday so this lovely flash mob will have to do.

More JaZZ: INVITATION - JAZZ BASSOON / Alexandre Silvério Quartet

Image
Probably barely 4 hours counting sleep in bed and falling asleep a couple places. Good Zoom call. And STILL brain is wandering down weird rabbit holes about news streams. Don't forget educational #Juneteenth broadcasts

Elephants and didgeridoo performance - at Albuquerque BioPark Zoo

Image
Did I actually make it to 5 hours of sleep? I forgot to check. Still wired from the Symphony. Good intentions about going to church for Fathers Day and Juneteenth event at Mom's church. Did not happen. Hard to sleep this time of year AND  body says well if brain is flying why sleep.

For a Saturday Devienne Bassoon Quartet in F Major, Op. 73 No. 2

Image
5.6 hours of sleep. Hair washed Transit gods mostly smiling and did not have to deal with TOO many micromobility devices. Blind group  Other errands. Home, breathe, Accept invite to symphony. Concert was gorgeous and other thoughts rattled out of brain. Patience with driver while dispensing directions to my house.

A gig with Denver Zoo’s Orangutan Family

Image
4.3 hours of sleep. Dressed and ready to roll for a 9 am zoom. Tired. Enough.

Look for the rest of this lovely piece Boismortier Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 14: Allemande

Image
5.9 hours of sleep. Pedaling the silly under the desk exercise bike for half of Zoom Bible study helped. So did good comedy in the video diet. The writers are still on strike and humor persists from many directions.

Finlandia op. 26 - Jean Sibelius Maybe not with bassoon ensemble

Image
4.6 hours of sleep due partly to collecting this glorious example of how NOT to to Finlandia. And also to finding causes for mirth in spite of a sort of dark occasion yesterday. Where were you when TFG got arraigned: in my kitchen microwaving lunch.

The human scene is bananas so let's hear it for Orca Rescue ...

Image
4.7 hours of sleep. Boy am I glad I showered last night but I STILL could have gone to bed earlier. Wake up in time to Zoom host a Care committee meeting. Now I could definitely sleep more but I have too many to-dos and a great team to help channel the to-dos.

Colorado Symphony wind music for Denver Zoo’s Rhino

Image
5.3 hours of sleep. Thank heavens there was time to go back to sleep before morning event. If I had my calendar time right I could have grabbed a shower. Happy anniversary parents and maternal grandparents.

Image
5.3 hours of sleep. Taking classical music to the zoo is, um, .... Glad to have gotten to do's done including 3 loads of laundry with 2 of 3 washers nonfunctioning. Also still appreciating shiny floor when I dropped off a lost sock for a neighbor. And wishing residents had easy access to a mop about some I think tomato soup spilled on my floor. Happy Sunday

Contrabasson silliness with Contrabass FLUTE? Strawocktopuss

Image
6.2 hours of sleep. I woke up early but with time window to go back to bed Energized to go meet PU student I am mentor for in internship. That went well. She was happy to hang out and wait at Geraldine's and the food was great. I should have finished errands and watched candidates forum later. Apparently a video will be posted but the wifi at the venue was too wobbly to make a lot of the session understandable.  I have many to-do's and I cannot even look at Russia Ukraine stuff. But a sampling of Trump indictment stuff is well interesting.

Because EVERYONE thinks of the Contrabassoon as a solo instrument "Oak Demon" for solo contrabassoon - Dave Volpe

Image
4.2 hours of sleep.  Day of the zombie

Indictment time garnished with Theme from "The Mandalorian" (arranged for Bassoon Ensemble)

Image
4.3 hours of sleep. I forgot about a 10 am meeting until...last night. I do not know whether a former president getting deservedly indicted would be any less double-edged with more sleep but news breaking means both it's about bleeping time and it's just depressing how many voices there will be trying to spin. Maybe the wildfire smoke is a sign though: Congress should not be out in the smoke any more than everyone else on the east coast. Other than that, my dad used to do all kinds of arrangements like this. I have never watched the Mandelorian, but a taste of the music might make me interested.

The Imperial March from Star Wars as rendered by Contrabassoons

Image
5.0 hours of sleep. Enough time to get breakfast before the 9 am techno zoom, about which I owe the world a blog post. Interrupting todays Youtube diet of dam destruction, Quebec wildfire doomscrolling, indictment enchanted lawyers showing off their law degrees, with the occasional funky music digression.

Around the world with 2 accordions 24 countries and 13 minutes

4.2 hours of sleep. Cat did not help with several bodily deposits discovered on the bed at bedtime. I am rattled enough by the Ukrainian dam to wear one of my prevent nuclear war t shirts. And not enough exercise  and  and But the accordions kind of capture...

Having people in giant furry hats play you out is an interesting effect of origins from the Commonwealth: King Guards Pay Tribute To Tina Turner

Image
The CPAP said 5.2 hours of sleep. We will not discuss from when to when. I told friends I went to REI yesterday to pick up an order and had to sleep in to recover. Honestly, as long as one is only looking for a specific thing, vision loss has it's blessings: if one cannot see all the things to feel intimidated about either on status symbol grounds, on physique grounds in the presence of clothing designed for people who really exercise, not for people who could stand to exercise more. Also wired from a good visit with mom and really impressive event and .... Plus I turned in needed paperwork, halfway to virtue.

REI opinions and in the meantime Black for Two Bassoons by Marc Mellits

Image
4.4 hours of sleep. Truly better sleep happens with NO snacks late in the evening.  But snacks are SO satisfying. Keep working on that. I went to see Mom and then did an errand to REI. Opinions about the latter elsewhere. Compline is co-ed tonight and the music is speaking to me.

In Lieu of a play Richard Bobo Contrabassoon Recital - Miniature Suite

Image
5.9 hours of sleep.  Not enough exercise. Clean hair. Took out trash and compost. A good meetup with a wonderful guy working at microsoft to make it easier for people to make accessible apps automatically. Also firs Saturday worship with people just glad to worship together. Count blessings. Maybe edit blog posts. As far as winning Twitter tonight, 76 people agree with a casual comment about what should happen when airlines ruin wheelchairs. And Ring of Fire volcanoes are still throwing shade at each other.

Friday levity: We Didn't Start The Fire (1990-2022 Version) [PHOTOS]

Image
6 glorious hours of sleep. The computer lab got its carpets cleaned yesterday.  The carpet cleaners told us what we already know: we need a new carpet. The ratty torn carpet looks much better after shampooing. However, the computer lab smells like cleaning product and I still don't want to linger here, no matter how much better my computer options are than at home.  Anyway, last night, I was home. It was much easier to go to bed at a semi reasonable hour. This morning I still did not get floor or fridge cleaned. The cat did get a lot of cat furniture time. Also a number of Ring of Fire geographical features or their human spokes tweeters have just been having a whole lot of fun on Twitter. Think of it as a palate cleanse after the vitriol of the debt ceiling, about which we have at least a temporary reprieve.  Now if only we could get on with indicting the former president for some of his many high crimes and misdemeanors and / or getting someone else on the presidential ...

Junuary again Richard Bobo Contrabassoon Recital - Into the Deep

Image
4 ish hours of sleep. Theoretically there would have been time to go back to bed especially since I decided just to compute from home and there is less blue light and also less room light in my apartment. Even though I went to bed earlier than usual, I STILL work up after 4 hours. Today a whole hour doing brain dump for a survey. At least I get paid but it feels like there is so much to say and what will be digestible not even to mention appear in the final report. However I am VERY glad to hear about ALL the focus groups for this survey. Then for grins, I finally gave in to the Freedom Scientific FSCast seizing control of my computer and listened to the whole podcast. Drag that there is now native way to speed up the playback and I get to check out RS Feed or download. First world problems. Why is it so bleeping cold even when the temp is close to 60?
